New Ad Calls On Gardner To End Shutdown

Colorado’s morning news watchers got a dose of politics with their coffee earlier today. A new ad campaign launched today is calling Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) to account for his role in the now month-long government shutdown.

Noting the unprecedented length of the shutdown, the ad lists several serious consequences, including 800,000 workers going with paychecks, food safety inspection stoppages, and increasing risks to air travel.

The ad also accuses Gardner of “siding with party leaders who refuse to even allow a vote to reopen the government.” It asks Coloradans to call Gardner and tell the senator to “demand and end to the shutdown.”

Over two weeks ago Gardner said he would vote to end the shutdown without funding for the border wall. That statement that runs contrary to the ad’s message, but since then he hasn’t repeated that position nor taken any public steps to end the shutdown. He was, however, appointed deputy whip by Senate leadership.

Majority Forward, a national nonprofit linked to the Democrats’ Senate Majority political action committee, is running the reportedly six-figure ad buy on cable and broadcast channels in the Denver media market.

The campaign is also targeting five other states with Republican senators up for re-election in 2020 – Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, Maine and North Carolina.

  1. Any 4 Republican Senators with an interest in having the Senate vote could track down Sen. McConnell and let him know they see this as an important issue — and the Majority Leader should allow a vote to open the government.  If the current Majority Leader will not do it, they will work with other Senators to find one that will.

    Far-fetched, I know.  Doing something, rather than merely saying something,  Seeing government functioning rather than maintaining a partisan gridlock.  Supporting government workers rather than making 800,000 of them suffer.

    Gardner?  Good at blending in with a crowd. Leading by aciton and deed? This is the guy who needed a popular candidate clear the field at the last minute so he could win his R primary. The guy who published pictures of an insurance statement cancellation acting as if, when it was all bull.

    He's a lying liar and the R's shouldda nominated Stephens. Or Buckpedal. 
     

  4. *rump offered to put some lipstick on his pig of a proposed bill to end the shutdown.  Naturally, Con Man the Courageous endorsed it.

    In an address from the White House, the president proposed a bill providing temporary protection for some undocumented immigrants along with other measures in exchange for $5.7 billion in funding for his border wall. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said the bill will come up for a vote in the coming week, testing Democratic unity on exchanging border security funding for protections for young immigrants and refugees.

    …there were no evident GOP defections after Trump's speech. Sens. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) both endorsed the bill. Both face difficult reelection campaigns.

    And even though the "concessions", like his tax cuts for the 99%, expire in just a couple years, they are too much for right wing hyenas like Ann Coulter and Roy Beck.
