MLK Day Open Thread

“Rarely do we find men who willingly engage in hard, solid thinking. There is an almost universal quest for easy answers and half-baked solutions. Nothing pains some people more than having to think.”

–Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  1. Whatever you do today, please consider making an extra effort to do at least one thing for the benefit of at least one other person in the spirit of this most American of holidays.  Our world, yours and mine, will be a slightly better place as a result.  Thank you.

  2. Hahahahahaha,

Former Starbucks chief exploring independent 2020 bid

He went on to criticize President Donald Trump, citing both "vitriolic behavior" from the Trump administration and a cut to corporate taxes during an interview with CNBC in June. At the time, he said, "President Trump has given license to the fact that someone who is not a politician could potentially run for the presidency."

In the same interview, Schultz knocked Democrats for proposals he deemed too left-wing, including single-payer health care and guaranteed income. Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders said in response that Schultz's remark was "dead wrong."

  3. Mike Pence told us yesterday that the answer to the question "What would MLK do" is "Build Trump's wall." That's nearly as good as the made-up nonsense about how MLK's fondest wish was to assure that mediocre white kids get to attend the college of their choice.

  4. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Casually Joins Gaming Live Stream For a Good Cause

To a live audience of approximately 17,000 viewers, Ocasio-Cortez called for “equal rights for all, no asterisks, no fine print,” and said, “Trans rights are civil rights are human rights.” She then launched into the issues of housing and healthcare for trans people, and how discrimination both aggravates and is a source of economic insecurity.

“When you have the added layer of discrimination, it makes these issues much more acute in their crises than they usually are on average for other people,” she said. “It’s important that we do talk about these issues in an economic frame, but not let go of the fact that discrimination is a core reason for the economic hardship.”

  5. *rump wanted to take the day off, but was cajoled into spending a couple of minutes dropping off a wreath at the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial in DC this morning.

Now back at the White House, he's probably steaming and scheming about the State of the Union speech, with more tweet storms to follow.

  6. On a much less auspicious local historical note, doesn’t today also mark the conclusion to a Colorado era . . .

    . . . Randy Baumgardner’s Last G[r]asp???
