As we awaken to a new blanket of white, we take comfort in the fact that indictments can ease the pain of Trumpstink.
But Great God Almighty,
Trump does stink.
Stay upwind, America.
A scary story our right wing trolls will surely tell each other around their campfire
There's not nearly enough snarkiness in this comic. Righties will take it unedited as the truth.
I also like to refer to Sinclair Lewis' 1935 political novel "It Can't Happen Here"
Plot:
In 1936 Senator Berzelius "Buzz" Windrip, a charismatic and power-hungry politician, wins the election as President of the United States on a populist platform, promising to restore the country to prosperity and greatness
I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the exact inspiration for this particular cartoon.
Regarding the Left, the Left-er and the Left-est in the Democratic Party fighting amongst themselves: Great Britain has a similar problem.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/a-very-british-lesson-for-the-american-left/2019/02/20/fdde32e2-352f-11e9-af5b-b51b7ff322e9_story.html?utm_term=.8c5cb331ecb7&wpisrc=nl_rainbow&wpmm=1
And our politics often follows British politics….
In the 1970's, harder right pols took over the Conservative Party in UK, then the GOP here.
Thatcher got elected there, the Reagan here.
After losing 3 elections in a row running hard left candidates, the Labour Party selected Tony Blair as its leader and he went on to win three times.
After losing 3 elections in a row running relatively hard left candidates in two of those races, the Dems nominated Bill Clinton and went on to win twice.
In 2016, British voters lost it and narrowly voted for BREXIT.
In 2016, US voters lost it and narrowly (by 77,000 in three states) voted for Trump.
Bernie is surging in New Hampshire…..
http://emersonpolling.com/2019/02/23/bernie-takes-early-lead-in-new-hampshire-democratic-primary-potential-tight-us-senate-race-if-gov-sununu-takes-on-sen-shaheen/
He edges out Biden and relegates Warren to 4th place.
Emerson also polled on what is the ideal age for a president. Curiously, a plurality of 40% said someone between 50 and 60.
NewHampshire.
Great. Super Tuesday is a year away, but Bernie will do well in IA, NH, SC.
And on Super Teusday – Harris wins CA. Who wins Texas? To be clear, "wins' means delegates.
If Harris wins CA & TX a year from Tuesday, Bernie gets to be Secretary of shut up.
A week after Super Tuesday – Ohio. Sherrod Brown is the only D to win statewide in Ohio in a long time. D's need Ohio. (Florida is gone. They can't count D votes anyway.)
If Senator Brown enters to go head to head with Harris, Hickenlooper, Bennet, Booker and whoever – Sanders is done.
Of course- who will the party insiders line up for? The party did what it could to line up HRC in 07/08 – but couldn't do it.
But in 15/16? We now know the party was bent – and the nomination was decided in Jan 2015.
But – PA, OH, MI, WI. Three D Governors – in states HRC lost.
53 weeks out – Super Tuesday looks like Harris.
The week after it ends with – Chrissie Hynde and Ohio
Great song, MADCO. The candidate that speaks best to the malaise of "My city was gone" takes the state, IMHO.
And you're right, Harris is impressive as hell. Will her doublespeak on private prison and criminal justice issues hold her back? hard to say. Harris was interviewed on AMJOY today. Warren's still my preference, though.
Warren has baggage that should not matter. But, sadly, does and will.
She needs to move beyond her apology tour.
Damn the deficits.
Free stuff ahead!
No deficits. Rich people will pay for the free stuff.
Sure enough…if they ever paid taxes…
DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!
Chicken Dinner!
If I was a rich American investor, especially if I wanted to continue to make the fake argument for smaller government. I would love deficits.
I'm not gonna pay for it.
I would get buying opportunities on the dips and crashes.
I would be able to offshore as much as I want when or how I choose.
And if my wife has to go without the elevator for her car at the beach house- it's a small sacrifice to make.
And if my wife has to go without the elevator for her car at the beach house- it's a small sacrifice to make.
Never before have so few given so little for …. nothing.
F-off.
Obviously, deficits only matter if you are a not a Republican. The US could have had this economy anytime since 2008 that Congress would have gone for the deficits they've given Trump. I know , I know that guy stinks.
But where's the daily call to alarm for the GINORMOUS deficits?
Your fake indignation about free stuff makes me sick.
As long as we get subsidies and free stuff you need, want or prefer, free stuff is great.
Must have free stuff.
Must have free stuff.
Nope. Sorry . . .
. . . but you’re not rich enough.
No free stuff for you!
MADCOW – check out this link to Warren Buffet's conversion from a deficit hawk to apparently not caring much anymore:

But keep tax cuts for the rich and obscenely wasteful military budgets!
God forbid some poor kid should eat.
If you follow the Primary horse race, check out the Washington Post's Pundit Power Ranking, by Catherine Rampell, to see how the Post's pundits rank the candidates in the early laps.
Top 5: Kamala Harris, then Klobuchar, Biden, Sanders, and Warren.
And if you are into horse race coverage, Aaron Blake from the "news" side of the WaPo offices has his "quarterly" ranking. The top 15 Democratic presidential candidates of 2020, ranked Top five are: Harris, Sanders, Warren, Booker, Biden. Hick & Bennet get into the "also mentioned" territory.
Huh. A US Senator quoted Mussolini. I'd like to say I'm surprised, but…
And Cornyn is the relatively more moderate Texas senator.
Goddamned fascist bastard should be in prison…not in the senate.
I'll bet Cornyn never said anything like that when Obama was president. It has traditionally been the right of individuals to amass untold wealth that is the "conservatives" only concern.
If it stands in the way of a "conservatives" access to money or power, individual rights are a societal burden and an assault on the right for rich people to get free stuff. Madcow is as unerring as ever in his assessment.
If you call yourself a "conservative" and vote for Republicans, you are giving support and approval to the end of American democracy…
Own It.
I am unable to link it just now but I recommend Bernard Harcourts' piece in the Nation about the end of our democracy. He makes a very compelling case that majority rule in this country is already subverted…that the only force that can stop the authoritarian power grab of our nation is the American voter. We have one, last chance…
The Republican Party must be crushed at the polls in 2020.
Money is NOT speech.
Corporations are NOT people.
It is way past time for people to be more important than profit…
But I do appreciate being able to write off the cost of my new private jet.
This one, Duke? https://www.thenation.com/article/donald-trump-authoritarian-constitutional-crisis/
Yup. That's it.
Thanks, skinny!

Israel has its own basket of deplorables…..

And Bibi Netanyahu is cozying up to them.
Israeli politics are insane. In its entire history, no party has ever won an outright majority. So you have to cut deals with splinter parties. Israel, to me, justifies our first -past-the-post political system and highlights the danger of proportional representation. If we used the Israeli system, David Duke would be in Congress.
of course, under our system, David Duke is president. So, who knows?
