  1. Jared Polis and the Colorado delegation are touting mile-high Colorado as the home of the Space Command. The southeast coast of Florida, where Cape Canaveral and most of the space infrastructure is now,  will likely be under water in the next 50 years because of climate change.

It makes sense – except for wildfires, occasional tornadoes and flooding, (and fracking-related earthquakes), we are less impacted from climate change here than some other states (certainly less than Florida). We have the technically educated workforce. People want to come here for the recreation and the sensible cannabis policies.

But will Trump block it because we didn't vote for him?

      1. What makes more sense is not creating yet another new service in our already bloated military. Despite efforts from Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), the Pentagon is the only federal government agency never to have had a successful, completed, audit. Results of the first ever department wide audit were released last November and only 7 of 21 individual audits received fully passing (5) or OK (2) grades.

  2. On the other hand, we're fairly far north.  Space launch is easier near the equator because eart h spins faster there, reducing the amount of energy needed for escape velocity.

Cape Canaveral rotates at 914 mph, a nice boost toward escape velocity.
Also, proximity to the Ocean makes launches safer. A misfiring missile from Peterson Field could take out Grand Junction.
For both reasons, Vandenberg Air Force base in Southern California is a much better site than anything in Colorado.

Plus, a lot of our politicians seem to think the earth is flat and they would fight the idea.

    We’re looking at you, Neville.

        1. Historical clarification: British Guiana, independent in 1966 as Guyana.

Dutch Guiana, also known as Surinam or Suriname, independent in 1975.

French Guiana, department of France, and the location of the former penal colony of Devil's Island.

    1. Currently, NASA missions are overseen from Houston, which is also not in Florida. The command center does not have to be anywhere near the launch site.

  3. Oh, hum, another day, another sentencing before a federal judge for a top Trump campaign official.  Manafort, round two.

It now looks like he’ll serve 7 1/2 years when concurrent time is deducted.

    1. And the finances … don't forget the finances.

[Plea deal, last fall] … "He also agreed to forfeit to the government more than $22 million in cash and property,"

[Ellis, aka round one] federal prosecutors moved this week to begin seeking restitution of up to roughly $24 million, forfeiting several Manafort properties in New York, as well as bank accounts and a life insurance policy.

[Jackson, aka round two] On Wednesday, Jackson ordered another $6.2 million in restitution payments, but did not impose any more fines.
