Contrary to Stacey Abrams' quote earlier this week, some people apparently do run for 2nd place.
Bennet probably DOES have a better national fundraising chance than Hickenlooper, assuming he developed and kept a contacts file while running the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. And there are probably a set of people working for the various Anschutz enterprises who might give to him and almost certainly wouldn't contribute to most declared Democratic candidates.
Another plus … if he's busy running for President, perhaps he won't be quite so much a bi-partisan buddy for Cory?
"understated competence"? I've wondered what it is that keeps Bennet in office. He's definitely understated, in fact I would call him un-stated since he hasn't taken a stand on anything that I know of. VoteSmart as good as called him a coward because he didn't answer any of the questions they hand out to candidates.
Neither Bennet nor Hickenlooper will be the nominee unless the rest of the candidates/near candidates kill each other off in a circular firing squad, which is always a possibility in the dim democratic party.
