Last Push for Wall Street Reform

  • by: Progressive Promoter

As most know,  I’m involved with Coloradans for Financial Reform, but wanted to bring it up again for newer readers.

The U.S. Senate is voting on Wall Street Reform amendments fast and furiously today. No surprise, the $600 million the big banks have put into defeating reform has produced an overwhelming army of lobbyists working the halls in D.C.

Sen. Bennet and Sen. Udall have been largely supportive of our efforts to rein in the reckless behavior of Wall Streeters and for that we are very grateful.

But they are still considering both strengthening and weakening amendments, and we are especially concerned about Sen. Bennet’s rumored position to oppose Amendment 3958 (Reed/Johnson/Brown) on Hedge, Private Equity and Venture Capital funds.

We don’t have millions of dollars to lobby for meaningful reform, but we do have millions of everyday folks with phones. If you care about financial reform and want your voice heard, call Sen. Bennet to tell him 1) You’re glad he’s been supportive of financial reform and 2) You want him to vote for Amendment 3958 to require SEC oversight of hedge/private equity/venture capital funds. His number is (303) 455-7600 or toll free (866) 455-9866

They could vote as early as tonight, so do if you’re going to do it, you’d better do it now!
