At Least She's Not Your Governor

  • by: Colorado Pols

From the “Uh, what the hell are your talking about?” department, via Politico:

Arizona GOP Gov. Jan Brewer claimed recently that law enforcement has been finding beheaded bodies in the desert – but local agencies say they’ve never encountered such a case.

“Our law enforcement agencies have found bodies in the desert either buried or just lying out there that have been beheaded,” Brewer said Sunday, suggesting that the beheadings were part of increased violence along the border.

But medical examiners from six of Arizona’s counties – four of which border Mexico – tell the Arizona Guardian that they’ve never encountered an immigration-related crime in which the victim’s head was cut off.

Whoops! But those immigrants that do still have heads — they’re all just drug mules, right?

Last week, Brewer claimed that a majority of illegal immigrants are “drug mules” being used to smuggle narcotics into the country.

The claim was widely disputed, including by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), and received national mocking by media outlets and in liberal circles.

Oh, shoot. So they have heads, and they aren’t all drug mules. You know what this story needs? A Nazi reference.

Brewer was also caught this month incorrectly claiming that her father died “fighting the Nazi regime in Germany.”

Her father, in fact, died in 1955 in California and worked in a munitions plant during the war.

That’s an impressive run of nonsense for one politician to weave through in just a matter of weeks. Really — we’re hard-pressed to think of someone else who has had the same string of ridiculous quotes in such a short time frame.

  1. was that Janet Napolitano moved up to the cabinet and Brewer became Governor of Arizona.  An unfortunate consequence of valuing talent at the national level.

    1. Napolitano has no business at DHS. She’s completely incompetent.

Senate Homeland Security Committee leaders on Wednesday slammed the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for not attending a hearing on combating nuclear terrorism.

Exasperated senators said DHS did not appear because it lacks an adequate plan to deal with the threats posed by nuclear terrorism.

      1. Collins said the need for a strategic plan to develop a global nuclear detection architecture (GNDA) was first raised in October 2002 by the Government Accountability Office. Nearly eight years later, DHS has yet to produce such a plan.

We’ve been waiting for 8 years and are now on our second administration to deal with this problem. It appears there’s been plenty of incompetence to go around for nearly a decade.

          1. for sheer volume and variety, Brewer is tough to beat, both in terms of volume and variety, on the spewing of nonsense.  Look  out Chicken Lady!  Look out Jane Norton.  Look over your shoulder Sarah Palin. Napolitano wouldn’t even make the quarter finals.

And incidentally, we’re doing a lot better with law enforcement vs terror than with invasions, occupations, corrupt, incompetent puppet governments and the like vs terror. Whatever safety and security we have never had a thing to do with dying in Iraq and stopped having anything to do with dying in Afghanistan along time ago.

            1. ” . . . we’re doing a lot better with law enforcement vs terror than with invasions, occupations, corrupt, incompetent puppet governments and the like vs terror. Whatever safety and security we have never had a thing to do with dying in Iraq and stopped having anything to do with dying in Afghanistan along time ago.”

              1. It has to do with incompetent terrorists.

The underpants bomber ignited a bomb that could have taken down the plane.

The Times Square bomber drove his SUV into position and tried to detonate.

Thank God we’re getting AQ’s dumbshits, because the system most certainly did not work.  We’re not going to be lucky forever.  Just ask some of the families at Ft. Hood, right?

      2. Officials with DHS did not respond to a request for comment, but told the GAO that they began work on a plan earlier this year and expect to complete it by the fall.

        OK, so let’s recap…

GAO calls for the plan in 2002.

        Bush administration does nothing.

Obama administration starts plan in early 2010, expect to complete it in late 2010.

When the plan isn’t complete in mid-2010, Republicans play it for politics.

LB, it reflects poorly when you selectively post this kind of garbage.

          1. We have a winner!!

Now tell the President that – he still thinks that anything bad going on is the fault of W.

            I think that’s real leadership!

            🙂

            1. Who was president again on 9/11?

Or is the ‘history started on the current watch’ theme only applicable to Dem presidents that follow failed R presidents?

Otherwise it would contradict the R’s sense of presidential history, to whit:  Robust economy under Clinton was because of Reagan…nation’s worse terrorist attack under W was because of Clinton, etc.

So which is it?  (You don’t really need to answer LB, intellectual honesty, consistency or fair portrayal of history has none ever been conservative strong points…)

              1. I think 9/11 was a unique event in history.  We’d never seen anything so brutal in our modern era, IMO, so I don’t hold Clinton accountable for not doing more when he could have to stop Bin Laden, just as Bush couldn’t have conceived the destruction that was coming.

                How’s that?

                1. And the transition team tried to tell the Bush team this would be their biggest security challenge.

                  “Yeah, whatever.”

                  Well documented fact.

                    1. Good catch – sorry I missed that one.

Although I maintain that 9/11 was such a cathartic event for Americans, that past lapses (by both Bush and Clinton) can be forgiven, but new ones cannot.

                    2. It was only while researching what year North allegedly said it that I discovered that he, in fact, didn’t.

I’m not a know-it-all, by any stretch. I do like finding things out, though.

                    1. Vacation

Bush, he noted, “was on vacation.” He added that he didn’t see the president at all in August 2001. During the entire month, Bush was at his ranch in Texas. “You never talked with him?” Roemer asked. “No,” Tenet replied. By the way, for much of August, Tenet too was, as he put it, “on leave.”

Throughout that summer, we now well know, Tenet, Richard Clarke, and several other officials were running around with their “hair on fire,” warning that al-Qaida was about to unleash a monumental attack.

All Presidents face similar criticism. Bush spent 32 months at Camp David or Crawford; Lincoln was criticized for spending 1/4 time away.

Obama’s visit tomorrow to Camp David will be his 12th. He has spent all or part of 23 days there since taking office.

about 1 hour ago via web

The President and his family will stay at Camp David through Sunday, then come back to the White House to watch the 4th of July fireworks

And when they say ‘part’ they can mean a very small part… like getting there late afternoon or up to late evening!

                    3. From the article link above:

A USA Today story, written right before Bush took off, reported that the vacation-scheduled to last from Aug. 3 to Sept. 3-would tie one of Richard Nixon’s as the longest that any president had ever taken.

        1. He is looks rusty and not used to having his stuff fact checked.  I’m suspecting that he has been hanging out on the right wing blogs where everything that is posted that is negative about the Obama Adminisration is assumed to be true.

Jon Stewart had a great take down this week on how Fox News constantly blamed Clinton throughout the Bush years but now Obama owns every problem.  It was priceless.

          1. LB just selectively lifted the one paragraph in a 3-paragraph article that made his point, while ignoring the 2 paragraphs that refute it. It’s the sort of thing he accuses Pols of doing all the time.

But, I guess good for the goose is good for the gander, eh?

              1. BFD

How does that change this story?:

GAO calls for the plan in 2002.

                Bush administration does nothing.

Obama administration starts plan in early 2010, expect to complete it in late 2010.

When the plan isn’t complete in mid-2010, Republicans play it for politics.

Collins could have picked up the phone and learned that much. And she could have called for hearings at any time when Bush was President. Why now?

      3. Was there a competent Secretary of Homeland Security somewhere in the historical record?

How is Napolitano bad compared to what has been?

I guess what I am saying is, “Your point?”

  2. Gov. Jan Brewer wants to believe all those things.

After all, her dad didn’t die fighting the Nazis in order for our deserts to become littered with beheaded drug mules.

    1. Sometimes these sig lines just write themselves.

After all, her dad didn’t die fighting the Nazis in order for our deserts to become littered with beheaded drug mules.
