What will happen to Bennet's warchest if he loses the primary?

  • by: wade norris

In light of the latest round of polling showing that Andrew Romanoff continues to be the better General Election candidate vs. Republicans, I have a question.

What happens to Senator Bennet’s war chest should he lose the Primary race to Andrew Romanoff?

Does Senator Bennet get to keep the money for another race or does it go into escrow or does it have to be returned to the donors?

What’s more important, would Senator Bennet donate any of his funding to the Romanoff Senate Campaign?

Would Andrew Romanoff accept that money if it came from PAC’s?

Or would it no longer be PAC money once Bennet is no longer a candidate?

All in all, it is a scenario that is worth discussing.

  1. Candidates can’t transfer money to other candidates.

    He has three options:

    1. Keep it for a later race (But only if that race is for US Senate or US House)

    2. Return to donors

    3. Donate to a charity

He could donate his personal money, but not raised money.

  2. … given that (a) the only polling I’ve seen shows Bennet winning the primary, and (b) this uninteresting question could be written about any primary candidate before the primary election (“what will ___ do with his/her funds if s/he loses the primary?”).  For example, in the unlikely event that Romanoff loses as the polls predict, what will he do with his remaining campaign funds — buy a pack of gum or play an arcade game a few times?

    1. NONE of McInnis’ plagiarism was discovered until Romanoff got in the race.  Romanoff is such an amazing all-around guy that he can make Republicans self-destruct.  Or something.

  3. Don’t worry Wade…there isn’t one.

Andrew doesn’t get the money. Even if he could, the kind of destructive, negative primary campaign he has run, and the ridiculously offensive things shills (like you) and campaign sockpuppets (like our friend StrykerJOJeffcoTrueBlueFirewalker) have guaranteed it wouldn’t be wasted on him.

One way or another, Andrew is going to find out just how few friends he has left on August 11th. The money won’t be there, and neither will the rest of us, who are permanently burned on him because of this disgustingly negative primary he has run.

    1. that Wade thinks this is worth a diary before he does any research I’ll reply.

If AR pulls this off I wil support him. He won’t get any $ from me because I am somewhat tapped out, but he’ll get my support.

    2. … I’ve gone from (a) hoping he’ll run for gov, to (b) being intrigued by his senate run and initially inclined to support him, to (c) thinking he’s a bullshitting flip-flopper who deserves the one-way trip to oblivion he’s likely to get in a few weeks. I’ll still vote for him if he wins the primary, but only in the sense that yes, I’ll vote for a douchebag democrat over a lunatic like Buck or this newly right-wing version of Norton.

          1. I’ve never understood how the word “douche” is offensive to women. Do women somehow equate themselves with douches? I can see how the word itself could be seen as offensive due to the imagery it evokes, but offensive in general not specific.

            1. he said Washington is corrupt.  But even if he did, there is a link between Bennet’s votes against people and the money flowing into his campaign.

So Bennet is proud of voting to kick people out of their homes, voting to ensure BP keeps tax breaks, and voting to keep banks too big to fail?  Because whenever I’ve heard Romanoff answer questions about the differences between him and Bennet, that’s what he talks about.

              1. The strange assumption you make, and apparently the Romanoff campaign makes, is that if AR was there the Senate leadership would do what he wanted, and that somehow there would be 60 votes for a public option, and more than 52 votes for cramdown, and etc and so on.

Ok.  You almost have me convinced.

But when I add in the CS Independent – well, that’s it.  Clearly AR is a lock.  You’re work is done.

          1. Just like me and most of  my family, friends, and neighbors.

We don’t agree, but we also don’t care that much.

            We’ve been called worse.

      1. Like his candidate, Stryker loves him some innuendo.

One of Stryker’s favorite methods is to suggest he knows a person’s identity and that they are out of state.

He did this to me a week or two.

He suggested, as he does just above in this thread, that a Bennet supporter is (a) from a different state, and (b) hired by the Bennet campaign.

I am from Colorado. I’ve lived here nearly 20 years. I am not hired by the Bennet campaign. I am not on the Bennet staff.  None of that is true. It is just invented because that is the kind of person Stryker is. And that is the kind of person Stryker’s candidate is.

For you Woody Allen fans, that’s:

        Ringing and buzzing.

        Buzzing and ringing.

  4. I’m pretty sure they made that legal…for obvious reasons.

I think that would be fairly likely, as many of his donors are national donor types who would be or are giving to the party anway.

  5. Romanoff has implied Bennet and his donors are corrupt. Bennnet should reccomend any Dem but the mudslinging Romanoff to his backers.

I  think that Bennet will win the primary though.

I never knew Wade backed the Iraq invasion. i knew he published plenty of speculative mud as a Romanoff shill. Wade should have renamed his tag line years ago: Democrat for GWB.

    1. the money issue is irrelevant — he can’t transfer to another campaign.

But if I understand the rest of your babbling, you’re saying that Bennet shouldn’t support the winner of the primary?
