Joe Barton, Meet Poetic Justice

  • by: Colorado Pols

Remember Republican Rep. Joe Barton, who famously apologized to BP because the mean ‘ol government wants the oil company to pay for its own oil spill?

Well, perhaps Barton should ask BP to apologize to him. Personally.

As MoneyLine reports, Barton’s campaign warchest is more than $150k lighter thanks to bad investments. Perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea to try to earn interest on your campaign funds through investments in British Petroleum:

Rep. Joe Barton lost more than $154,000 on investments of his campaign funds during the last three months, according to a CQ MoneyLine study of campaign finance reports. The Texas Republican’s campaign fund losses are due in part to drops in energy company stocks, including BP. [Pols emphasis]

Turbulence in the financial markets has taken its toll on several House campaigns, which lost in total more than a quarter of a million dollars in campaign funds since March because they invested in the stock market, but Barton’s losses make up the largest chunk of that.

Barton saw his bottom line fall in part because of losses in broad-based funds that invested in companies linked to the recent Gulf Coast oil spill.

      1. Look at the posts on the front page! They are all posted in chronological order! It’s a conspiracy!!! A conspirrraccccyyyyyyy!!!

        ARRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!

Seriously, Stryker, you really need to relax. Turn off your computer and go for a walk or something.

        1. but every time one of the front page editors puts up something that could be negative for Bennet you immediately find something to push it down.

          1. Your conspiracy theories are much too time-consuming for us to implement.

Sitting around all day, monitoring Colorado Pols in case somebody writes something bad about Michael Bennet, sure sounds like a lot of fun. A genuine barrel of monkeys.

Apparently you actually do sit here all day waiting for something like this to happen, which is why we suggested you go for a walk.

          2. They’re simply pointing out what an asshole you are.

And you’re not winning your candidate any votes.  At least not mine yet.

Right now, I’m thinking, “If I vote for Romanoff, am I just like Strykerk2?”

            Not a pretty thought.

Three weeks to go until the votes are counted.  Try to keep it positive, will you?

            1. Are you really undecided? Or is this just a meme you’re using to play Devil’s advocate?

Because if you really are undecided at this point, then what are you waiting for to make a decision? Is there some information about either candidate which you feel is missing to completely inform your decision?

I’m curious because there”s just been so much written for and against each candidate that I can’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t have decided yet.

              PS

I’d love to regale you with anecdotes and swamp you with data and give you everything you ever thought you could want to know about Andrew, but I think you already have all of that…

              1. who he’s gonna vote for? But I have other friends who are almost militantly opposed to choosing (or voicing) a candidate until they get their ballot. Some just like to play devil’s advocate so we can examine stories from every angle. I like this. Who wants to hang out with people who agree with you about everything?

Other just like to be pursued! With the amount of info and opinion on this site, I wonder if Ralphie is a combination of both. We need him to be the level head when things get really heated though. 🙂

              2. I haven’t even decided which primary to vote in, let alone who to vote for.

I’m undecided on the Dem side because I like them both.  I’ve gone to see them both.  It’s Romanoff’s campaign that is giving me pause, not Andrew himself.

                1. or the blogosphere? Because I’m pretty sure most if not all of us posting here in support of Andrew are free agents. I can’t speak for anyone other than myself of course, but just from the tone of many comments, I’d guess they are safely outside the campaign.

And isn’t it too late to vote then in the Democratic primary? I thought you had to be a registered Dem by June?

                  1. If you’re already registered to vote, but are registered unaffiliated, you can vote in person at a service center and declare a party affiliation right then and there.  You have to be registered to vote 30 days before the primary, and you can’t switch from D to R or vice-versa later than 30 days before the election.

You can then fill out the paperwork to unaffiliate right after you vote.  In Mesa County at least, they won’t process it until they’re done with their canvass.

                    1. I used to b eunaffiliated. Then I decided that wasn’t honest for me.(not making any judgments about anyone else mind you). I am, have been, and likely always will be a Democrat, unless they really go over to the dark side!

                      one never knows I guess…

  1. campaigns could put campagign funds in the stock market. Something about that just doesn’t sound right. When they gain earnings who do they say it’s from?

    Interesting.

  2. So at the SAME TIME that he was apologizing to BP and attempting to rehabilitate its public image, he had MAJOR STOCK INVESTMENTS in BP?

    What a crook.
