Man on Probation Runs for Office in Denver

Bob Lane won the Republican nomination for HD 9 last Tuesday and will face incumbent Democrat Joe Miklosi in the Fall. But did Republicans know what they were getting when they voted?

Bob Lane is currently on probation, after being charged with Assault and Domestic Violence in July of last year. Lane was able to strike a plea deal with the Denver DA office wherein he completes a Domestic Violence Evaluation and Treatment Program and gets a “Disturbing the Peace Charge” instead of the full Assault Charge.

According to Lane’s Statements, the victim is an undocumented Asian immigrant who wanted to marry him for citizenship. When he refused, she tried to steal his cell phone. It was when he took it back that she called the police on him.

This writer thinks that the undocumented immigrant portion of the statement is the only reason he got the plea deal. She wasn’t willing to come forward and correct his story out of fear.

In any case, I think it is a bit short-sighted for someone to run for office while still on probation, regardless of the circumstances. Joe Miklosi should be thanking his lucky stars right now because Lane’s Primary opponent would have given him a much bigger fight.

This HD9 Independent knows who he will be voting for. I hope that any other CPOLs readers that live in HD9 give this issue the attention it deserves. This isn’t about party, it’s about who you want to be YOUR representative. Personally, I disagree with Miklosi a LOT. Especially on his immigration issues. But I would rather have someone like him, who I know from experience is open-minded and that I can have a conversation with, than a criminal who lashes out at any and everyone who opposes him.

I’ll take Joe, thanks.

  1. All of the information on the charges and terms of the plea agreement were taken directly off the case report on the Denver court’s website. You can find it yourself, easy.

There is some account of the spat between Lane and the Country R Chair, Ryan Call, on FaceTheState here:

    http://facethestate.com/by-the

    1. I just thought it was worth pointing out that the “party of morals” picked a criminal over a police officer (his republican opponent).

And I don’t think it’s unreasoanble to point out that this is just the last in a series of unscrupulous characters (maes, mcinnis, buck,… palin) to come out of the republican grinder lately.

  2. And so are you.

You are twisting facts to serve your own take on this story.

First of all, the assault charge was dismissed. And he only plead guilty to the Disturbing the Peace charge because he didn’t want to pay for a long trial that wouldn’t get him anything.

Second, you obviously don’t know anything about the victim and if she hasn’t decided to come forward, that’s too bad. She’ll just have to deal with the way Bob tells the story, and so will you.

Third, I find it convenient that you wrote this the day before he gets off of probation so that you could say “is currently on”. If you wrote this on Thursday, you wouldn’t have been able to say that.

Finally, I find it repulsive that you would soil the name of a good man like Bob Lane with these lies, when you admit how horrible his opponent is.

You should be ashamed of yourself. As should Ryan Call and the rest of the Republican’s that have turned their back on the man who got the vast majority of the votes in the primary, and the only candidate in this race committed to changing the right things for our state.

        1. I’ve overwhelmed with remorse and self-doubt ever since the “TrueRep” showed me th error of my ways.

I’ll be turning myself over to homeland security now.

    1. sounds relevant to me, regardless of whether or not the sentence has been served.  Something this recent can’t fairly be described as a youthful indiscretion.

This is the same information that would be gathered in any routine background check for an employee for all manner of jobs, and the people of Colorado are being asked to hire Bob Lane for a two year position that pays a little more than $30,000 a year, so it is certainly fair to bring up this kind of public record.

Also, as far as I can tell, none of the points in your comment contradict the original post, so it is hard to see how these are lies.

Realistically, in HD 9, Bob Lane is a sacrificial lamb candidate in any case, so it won’t affect the state very much.

Incidentally, I suspect that one of the motivations in the plea deal was the fact that a conviction on the original charge would have meant a lifetime ban on gun ownership, while the charge of conviction does not have that effect.

      1. And right after I posted this, no less.

This smells to me like someone with a google alert for bob lane rushing in to defend.

I’ll leave the speculation to others and simply point out how well the defense mirrors statements on bob’s website. Hmm.

  3. Jeez, I saw that headline for this diary and thought to myself, “Oh great, some right-wing screed against an illegal alien in Denver and sanctuary.”

I have to say, this is much more to my liking than what I expected.

  4. Wasn’t the guy’s name Dean?  Broke into his girl friend’s house, did other bad things, she wouldn’t press charges, they had great making up sex and got married.

Or, something like that. I wish my memory was 10% as good as Voyageur’s.

      1. DD is living proof that doing evil is no impediment to success or happiness.

I hear his victim/gf/wife was good at cleaning out his rifle…….
