Wait, What? Trump Holding Event for Gardner at White House?

UPDATE #6: The Colorado Times Recorder has the latest damage control report.

—–

UPDATE #5: And now they’re blaming reporters. The ONLY event that had been publicly announced for Friday was a fundraiser in Colorado for Cory Gardner. Why would a reporter assume there was something different?

—–

UPDATE #4: Cory Gardner’s campaign spokesperson is spinning furiously on Twitter:

What LWCF event? This has never been announced before. And why is Cory Gardner’s Senate campaign announcing an official White House event?

UPDATE #3: Here’s Larry Ryckman, editor of The Colorado Sun:

UPDATE #2: Here’s Denver Post reporter Justin Wingerter:

UPDATE: More White House reporters scratching their heads:

—–

The White House announced on Wednesday that President Trump was cancelling a planned trip to Colorado for a Friday fundraiser to benefit the re-election campaign of Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Yuma).

But as journalist Suzanne Lynch Tweeted out today:

First of all, Trump can’t host a fundraiser for a political campaign at the White House, so it’s not clear what this event might actually entail. Then again, we’re saying this under the assumption that President Trump pays any attention whatsoever to The Hatch Act.

We’re also a bit perplexed that anybody would want to go to the White House at the moment, given that President Trump has been exposed to the Coronavirus (or, potentially, has exposed others):

So many questions. We’ll update with answers when they become available.

  1. Our oligarchs, and betters, will probably be very relieved to find out that they can just e-mail their quid pro credit card numbers, or use PayPal, to donate directly to that Swiss bank account victory fund.

“The Hatch Act”???   Whaaa . . .???   This is a “perfect” solution, perfect . . .  You wanna’ hold this fundraiser on 5th Avenue, perhaps???

. . . anyway, have you people already forgotten everything you were schooled last February??

    1. I wonder if anyone from Trump's circle mentioned the possibility to Cory & his handlers?

Do you suppose one of the donors scheduled for Wednesday would have a private jet to fly to Washington DC?  I'm thinking of the possible campaign ad — "facing a national crisis, *resident Trump and Cory Gardner wanted to coordinate … fundraising"

    1. I hope that future President Pelosi is prepping to take over. Pence might survive a covid19 infection. Doubtful that $rump, a 73 year old obese man with apparent breathing problems, would make it through.

We’ll know for sure when Melania grabs Barron and bails for Slovenia.

  2. I'm hazy on details … but I think I remember Clinton could have donors come to the private residence without triggering Hatch Amendment.  There may have been one or two Republicans objecting, but I'm sure it would be just about the same now with Trump holding a fund raiser there.

    1. It was Clinton letting donors sleep in the Lincoln bedroom

To jump-start his 1996 re-election campaign with an early advertising blitz, Clinton straddled the ethical boundaries by offering access to the White House in exchange for six-digit checks. In Clinton’s defense, there were no proven quid pro quos — just an atmosphere of sleaziness.

I think the headline says it all:

Opinion: Trump Era Corruption — Where’s the Outrage?

Here’s something the president does better than Bill Clinton

FYI — the loophole that Clinton was able to use is no longer available.

  3. re:  Update #5. Why would there need to be a meeting about the Land and Water Conservation Fund this week?  Gardner's campaign web page already posted:

Gardner helps sway Trump on conservation bill

The Daily Sentinel  March 4, 2020

Gardner, R-Colo., and Steve Daines, R-Mont., met last week with Trump and House Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to discuss the two measures, which are now being pursued in a single bill. On Twitter Tuesday, Trump indicated he would sign the bill and called on Congress to approve it. He also thanked Gardner and Daines and commended them for their work on the LWCF funding.
