I posted this yesterday on the open thread, but I realized I had a lot more to say about it. It nicely sums up everything I believe about the last two years of American politics. In the spirit of reposting old videos (h/t Pols w/ the Buck video), here it is again:
I love this video, because I knew it would be made about a year ago. The video that summed up the last two years of the American political experience, that concisely illustrated America’s love affair with Obama and subsequent disillusionment. I didn’t know that “The Social Network” would be filmed, but it created the perfect backdrop for the social commentary.
“Don’t care if it hurts; wanna have control.”
After 10 years of war, provoked by the devastating attacks on 9/11, America was growing weary of these protracted battles, draining our resources, claiming the lives of our youth, and not seeming to accomplish much good. The GOP could have been smart about this and nominated someone who would have scaled back the wars, but instead they chose McCain. He was American hero, true, but at the wrong time. People were tired of meddling in foreign affairs and (correctly) saw that our domestic affairs needed looking after. They didn’t care how bad it hurt our pocketbook, they wanted control. And Obama was just the man do it.
“Want a perfect body; want a perfect soul.”
Obama promised hope and change. He was going to fix healthcare; his wife was going to make everybody slim and beautiful. We were going to heal the racial divides and partisan spats in America. We would all have perfect bodies and perfect souls.
“Want you to notice, when I’m not around.”
We wanted the world to notice. Obama toured the world, speaking in Germany, etc. He was an international superstar. We basked in the limelight.
“You’re so very special. I wish I was special. But I’m a creep. I’m a wierdo.”
Obama was special. He was half man, half God. He was perfect, and we all wanted to be like him. Beaten down by years of attacks and hatred from radical Islam and the world at large, we saw ourselves as creeps and wierdos. We wanted to be special again.
“What the hell am I doing here? I don’t belong here.”
What the hell were we doing? It was time to fix things. We didn’t belong in an economic downturn. Time to spend our way out of recession, even if it hurt.
“She’s running out again.”
But then we started to run out of money. Big time. Was the stimulus too big, bankrupting us? It certainly wasn’t creating jobs. Time was running out…
“She’s running out.”
Taxes? Spending? Debt? Nationalizing the mortgage industry, the loan industry, the car companies, our very own healthcare? Socialism? Help! We’re running out of options!
“I don’t belong here.”
This was not the American dream. This is not the American dream. This is why Democrats will lose, and lose big, in November.

And get help, before we find you on Colfax wearing the “Clinton raped Juanita” sign.
That’s why the left hates me.
All indications are that Clinton did not rape anyone. His sexual acts with an intern appear to have been consensual. His sordid and lengthy affairs with women like Jennifer Flowers have never been categorized as Rape. I think you owe Clinton an apology to even insinuate there were ever rape allegations. Now Al Gore…that is a different story.
“Don’t care if I burp; I don’t wanna falafel.” After eating, seriously, tired. No more. GOP could, I suppose, be smart. Theoretically. Anyhow, McCain. Palin God we are losers.
“Want a perfect bean row; want a perfect hoe.”
Obama promised hope and change. Damn weeds still harass my bean plants.
“Want you to notice me, that’s why I hang around.”
We wanted the world to notice, but I’m just a number random grad school autotron in a random grad school universe. So here I am, etc. I’m an imaginational superstar. LOL. (The royal) We basked in the limelight.
“You’re so very special. I wish I was special. But I’m a creep. I’m a wierdo.”
I shouldn’t be so hard on myself, BJ it’s not what it sounds like. It’s what everybody always called me. Honest.
“What the hell am I doing here? I don’t belong here.”
True. So true. But I take it where I can find it. Attention, I mean.
“I don’t belong here.”
This had all better be my American dream. This is not the American dream. I guess it’s just a waste of time. I should probably make some popcorn and go back to Redstate.
No wonder you don’t get banned; guess Pols doesn’t want to piss off an FPE.
No wonder you don’t get banned; guess Pols doesn’t want to piss off an FPE.
And I’m sure in your head you’re not only FPE, but also Governor, President, and Palin’s husband.
Does your name stand for… da troll?
Usually only middle aged posters use that joke.
Congratulations. You aren’t even an original self proclaimed troll.
Every thread where people try to engage beej turns into the “Duck Season, no, rabbit season!” looney tunes cartoon.
I think you might be reading a little too much into the Radiohead lyrics, though, other than the title.
BJ is a narcissistic creep, so it probably makes sense in that respect.
But hey it’s a fun buzzword. He knows the grown-up RWNJs he idolizes use it so he’ll parrot them. No thinking needed.
