Let's Elect the First Black Congressman from Colorado

The video above inspired me to write this.  I was an early supporter of Ryan Frazier when he began campaigning for this 2010 election cycle as a Senate candidate.  I was disappointed that he dropped out but it was probably for the best given that it was long shot for him to win even without Jane Norton in the picture.  His decision to instead run against Ed Perlmutter in Congressional District 7 was probably the best decision for his political career and for the image of the Republican party as a whole.  We have the greatest number of black Republicans running for office this election cycle since the Reconstruction and Ryan is one of the candidates with the best shots at winning.  Now, I am not a resident of CD-7 but I am writing this to those that are.  I ask for you all to support Ryan Frazier in his bid for Congress.  He will be a moderate voice within the Republican caucus and will begin the transformation of the Republican party’s image, which was the cause and reason I joined the Republican party in the first place.

There is a reason why The Denver Post endorsed him.

He has shown independence from typical conservative positions on gay marriage and on immigration.  For example, he supported extending benefits to same-sex partners as a City Councilmen, which in my opinion is one of the largest issues at play in the gay marriage debate since marriage in the legal sense should not be confused with marriage in the religious sense.  Also, he is not an extreme on immigration and instead focuses on enforcing the laws already enacted and providing a responsible and enforceable work visa program.  Finally, he will be a fiscally responsible and liberty inspired voice for limited government, which is greatly needed for my generation in particular because we will be burdened the most by the increasing deficit brought to us by both parties.

As I am here writing in my hometown of Boulder, a district that is probably one of the least competitive in the state, I hope those who live in CD-7 make the right choice and vote for Ryan Frazier.  I believe he will make a great Congressman and will bring a new voice within the GOP.  I have felt this way ever since I first heard him speak at the Michael Steele GOP fundraiser dinner in early 2009.  His inspiring campaign video “A New Way Forward” solidified my support for him (which you can watch yourself after the jump).  He has run a polished campaign that has often been acknowledged in the national press through features of his campaign and many guest appearances from Ryan Frazier himself.

With this I ask you, can I count on your support to elect Ryan Frazier to Congress?

For those interested in this race, please take the time to honestly answer the poll below.

Will you vote for Ryan Frazier in CD-7?

    1. but he is not my candidate.  Although, he is a Republican like myself and I do volunteer for the GOP Victory campaign. I do this in Longmont though where we focus on local races and statewide races.  Maybe this diary was a little overboard.  I do believe it will at least generate discussion about his candidacy.  I believe Ryan Frazier has much better odds than what is shown on Pols’ “Big Line”.  It is more likely a toss up than a shoe-in for Perlmutter.

  1. Are you asking for people to support him for the reasons outlined, or because he’s black?

    WTF’s your point?

Anyway, your reasoning seems a bit silly.  Basically you’re saying that he’s Perlmutter, only Republican.  Oh, and black.  Is that really a good reason to fire someone?  You know, who’s not even meant to be representing you.

And finally, why are you allowed to plug and pimp, but I’m not allowed to vote in the poll?  That seems unnecessarily exclusionary.

    1. I wanted a provocative title to get people talking about this race and about Ryan Frazier.. and it seems to be working.  I am asking for people to support him for the reasons outlined but I do believe it is important that the typical image of the GOP should change from what it is typical viewed as, which is the “Grand Old White Party.”  The reasons I outlined are geared toward the audience of ColoradoPols, which is more liberal leaning.  He is not just Perlmutter but Republican or black.

Your right about the poll.. vote away!

      1. I mean he is not just Perlmutter but Republican or black but a fiscal conservative who will reign in government spending and would not vote for such bills as the stimulus bill or the health care bill.
