It's "me" vs. "you", Ralph Reed.

Pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee, and settle in for a dastardly tale of late season campaign hijinks. It took me the better part of the wee hours of the night last night to ferret out the details, so listen up!

It all started a few days ago, when a curious ad popped up on the radio from the Faith and Freedom Coalition. At first the ad seems to support Ken Buck, praising his support for the values of faith and freedom. But then, oddly, a certain degree of snark enters the narrator’s voice as he trumpets that Ken is one of “us”, fighting “them”. Who is this “them”? Well, it’s the evil forces of Obama, Pelosi, and every other dark souled liberal roaming the world looking for children to devour.

Now, there’s no good old fashioned, patriotic, freedom-loving American who wouldn’t agree that the policies of the current Democratic leadership have hurt our nation, and that said leaders need to be removed from office forthwith. But to self-righteously cast this as an “us” vs. “them” battle comes across as suspiciously divisive at a time when Ken Buck is working to restore the greatness and prosperity of our nation for ALL Americans. Naturally, my curiosity was piqued.

At first, I assumed this must be the work of another Stryker-funded Democrat hit squad. After all, they’re running dishonest ads attacking-and-therefore-supporting Doug Aden in an attempt to suppress the vote for Cory Gardner, and they previously ran ads supporting the epic failure known as Dan Maes in the primary. But no, when I checked out the website (www.ffcoalition.com), the site seemed to be legit. And that’s when things started to get good…

As it turns out, the group is the creation of none other than Ralph Reed. Yes, THAT Ralph Reed who was the first executive director of the Christian Coalition, and most recently failed in a primary election due to some not-so-pretty details that came out regarding his ties with Jack Abramoff. Still beloved by some on the social right, this guy is better known for cynically manipulating the social conservative vote. You can read all about his exploits here:

http://www.time.com/time/magaz…

Digging deeper, I sorted through the “disclosure” tab on the donation page, and found a link to a 501(c)4 registration in New Jersey. The registration came complete with an address and phone number, and popped up all over the place on SoS pages when I searched for registrations in other states. It seems Reed is trying to restart the Christian Coalition, albeit “not your daddy’s” coalition:

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ld…

Curiously, while the address was unsurpringly listed in Georgia, the phone number had a 303 area code and could be traced directly to the heart of Cherry Creek. As it turns out, that number belongs to a former Beauprez campaign manager and current lobbyist, who lists himself as the Chief Operating Officer of the Faith and Freedom Coaltion from June to Decemeber of 2009 on linkedin.com. According to my public record research, he has close family ties to the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), whose Colorado chapter is Citizens for Life. Yes, this is the group that vowed they weren’t upset enough with Buck for not using abortion as a litmus test on judicial confirmations to “kick him in the shins”:

http://bit.ly/aXicow

(Link shortened so as not to offend the gentle sensibilities of the owners of this blog, who are locked in stiff competition with Denver’s Mystery Paper blog.)

However, it appears that in the end they may have decided (via the FF coaltion) that they’d like to give him a sharp tap in the shins anyway just to ensure he doesn’t deviate from their control. After all, he even had the audacity to prosecute the murder of a Greeley transgender teen as a hate crime:

http://coloradoindependent.com…

(This link, of course, is much more acceptable to our left leaning moderators.)

So, why am I posting all this? Well, there’s a moral to every good story. Here’s my point.

I’m as pro-life as the next guy, and I’m glad Ken shares my respect for life. I wouldn’t support him otherwise. But Ken Buck is an independent voice for Coloradans and he isn’t going to be beholden to one group or another. He’s going to do what’s best for the grassroots people of the state of Colorado, and currently that means fixing the economy, halting the overreach of government and exorbitant spending with threatens our democracy, and giving businesses the freedom and certainty they need to expand and create jobs. He’s not going to rush off and pass some strident abortion legislation instead of dealing with the economy, like the Dems did with healthcare. For the FF coalition to try to assert control over him so that if they go down, he goes down, is just disingenuous. They need to be called out for it, and that’s what I’m doing.

It’s me vs. you, Ralph Reed.

  1. You listed all the reasons on why I and so many other conservatives support Ken Buck. Not only is he the obvious choice over an appointed senator who’s voting record in support of the failed stimulus, the destructive Obamacare, etc.  is nothing more than a rubberstamp for Obama’s radical agenda.  Ken is an inteligent, and articulate conservative who champions what conservatism is all about and denies the control that certain groups try to exercise over him.  Ken is exactly all that I could ever want in a politician and I hope he keeps standing up to not only the liberals, but the groups in our own party that have certain views that distract us from what our party and our country are all about.

I have supported Ken since day one and I can’t help but be excited as each day we get closer to Ken being our next senator.  I wonder how the libs will try to prevent him from starting right away. I don’t think it is going to be near close enough for the possible recount they are hoping for.

    1. 1. Until we can medically treat gays like alcoholics.

      2. Not prosecute rapists because the Woman might be suffering some “buyer’s remorse.”

      3. Force an incest or rape victim to have the baby of the man who violated her.

Yep he is the “obvious choice”

      1. 1. No I have no interest in that and I don’t know any people who feel that way including Ken Buck.

        2. Criminal cases do not get prosecuted when they lack sufficient evidence that amount to beyond a reasonable doubt.  Evidence of “buyers remorse” is more than enough for reasonable doubt. Sorry not all DA’s are as bad as Nyfong.

        3. I am for early term abortion in these cases, however I fully understand that liberals would abuse this exception.  Why punish the child for the heinous acts of the father. The funny thing is that you libs will fight to kill the unborn child ten times over, but defend the life of the monster father with everything you can.

  2. Thank you for the research work (yes, this is a real compliment).  It confirms something that has been floating around about Reed. That he is trying to rehabilitate his political credentials.  He has been appearing on TV shows, usually without any questions of his greed and using whatever means possible to satisfy his greed.

I did not vote for Buck, I would never vote for Buck. He represents a time that passed us by in the 1850’s (pre-Amendment 17 and 14, 19).

    1. If by your comment that Buck represents a time prior to 1850, kinda like the time starting in 1773 and ending with the ratification of our constitution I would agree with you. Thank you!

I hope you don’t believe Buck is against 17, 14, and 19. If you do I would like for you to link to statements or

other evidence that would substantiate your statement.

          1. How can you seriously add words into a senate candidate’s mouth? You are being so dishonest and wreek of desperation even more so than normal.  Nome of those ridiculous statements even come close to

describing Ken Buck and you know it. And if he has made it quite plain that he hates women does that mean everybody who disagrees with that statement is stupid?

And voyuer please elaborate and explain why you think that no matter how or where you come from if you are born in America that makes you a citizen. And can you provide any other country that has similar a type of citizen laws to what you believe the 14th amendment grants.

            1. That wasn’t too hard, was it?

And if we should follow the example of other countries, I want my single payer health care!

The courts have decided what the 14th Amendment grants, not you.

              1. Interesting I did not know that. Will you please provide a link to where I can research that.

Oh and the courts have never been wrong before. I mean it is clearly visible in that goofy imanginary ink that only the liberal activist judges possess the decoder for. Just like seperation of church and state in the 1st amendment. Silly me.

                1. And I”m not wasting time to do the linky thinky.  I heard it on NPR a few weeks bag discussing this matter with a 14th amendment expert.  He’s the one that mentioned, as you state, most nations don’t give birthright citizenship.  But the US and Canada do.

Courts aren’t always right or wrong. They interpret.  And the current interpretation of the 14th grants citizenship based on location.

It’s like the recent ruling on the 2nd amendment.  I vociferously disagree on their reasoning, but the court has spoken and I accept its findings as the law of the land.

Not sure what you mean about the 1st amendment comment.

  3. …policy, candidates and their character, and what our country and state need to look like and stand for.  Having said that, this diary is well researched, well written, and interesting to read. bravo, more like this, please.

  4. The only thing that makes this diary marginally better than any other crap you’ve posted is that the other stuff is so poor.

It’s a whiney, half baked analysis of one of the more heinous outside ads supporting your chosen one.  He should denounce it and acknowledge that Obama is our president and not the biggest threat to the country.  Oh, wait, he already said Obama was the biggest threat to the country.

Can’t he just flip on that thing too?

    1. Why don’t you get your hate speech straight next time. If Buck said that I sure would like to see that link. Go ahead and apologize at any point you want please.

        1. I have no problem with the statement. I would say radical Islam is up there, but then we could discuss how impotent Barry is with dealing with that issue making him a threat in that area as well.

All I know is that I feel the country is going completeley in the wrong direction under Obama and he has drastically changed for the worse the relationship between a citizen and the government.

With help from rubberstamp we are experiencing record home foreclosures, 17 percent real unemployment, our taxes go up on Jan. 1st, the death tax is going to be reinstated, record numbers on food stamps, high deficits, and what has he done to help? The failed stimulus? No thanks.  Obamacare? Even worse!

          1. This is my favorite line in your ridiculous rant:

has drastically changed for the worse the relationship between a citizen and the government.

We have a government made up of citizens. That’s what makes our government stronger and better than most others. Our ability to self-correct without the need of bloodshed is one of the most fundamental principles we have. Have you ever once studied the writing of the Founding Fathers? Patrick Henry? Jefferson? Maybe some John Locke? You should give it a try. You might learn a bit about what the Founding Fathers actually thought when they drew up our founding documents.

Careful though, you might become educated (elite) and need to be purged from your party.

          2. the greatest country in the greatest time in the history of the world.

President Bush invaded Iraq because there is oil there.

President Obama has done better in Afghanistan and the USA is safer in the first two years of his presidency than we were in Y1 & Y2 of the Bush administration.

The Bush administration that drove our economy into the ditch at the edge of the cliff, running up record deficits and record low taxes.

But have it your way- any senator can fix any problem in two years.  Yeah, ok.

  5. A battle of 2 intellectual giants! Beej vs. Ralph Reed!  Ladies and Gentlemen step up and place your bets. Odds?  I predict a stalemate that hopefully will tie Mr. Chestnutt up for years to come.

  6. Your diary becomes tedious at about the third paragraph. I got absolutely no information from it.

    Who what where when why

    First paragraph

    First rule of writing

        1. so everyone who is dying to know can now rest assured that the anonymous fucktard trolling on ColoradoPols under the handle No2Dems OFFICIALLY had no comment on this subject, here, on the 28th day of October in the year of our Lord 2010.

  7. This “Faith and Freedom” ad does mark the attempt of the Christian right to shred the Constitution and replace that doctrine with one of their own.  They instead want to make the Constitution a “divine article” like the plates found by Joseph Smith, instead of the article of reason that it is.  The Christian right has worked to stereotype anyone who is not of their particle brand of faith.  The goal is to make sure that all elected officials are conservative Christians, of the ilk that live on C Street in D. C., who want a “secret” government and a hand in foreign affairs, without going through Congress. The Christian right has never been about YOUR faith or YOUR freedom, but their own.  And they will marshall whatever lies it takes in order to trash the Obama administration and the Dems who have accomplished a remarkable amount given the churlishness of the Teapulicans.

You think that Ken Buck will “save” Social Security?  You are mistaken.  Seniors, look out, because if you vote the Republicans back into power, the Republicans will seek to “privatize” it, meaning that someone will make a bundle “managing” it.  Don’t you see that they are attempting a money grab?  And it is your money they want.  Obama has cut taxes by 161 billion dollars, yet no one seemed to notice.  Nor did you notice that health care reform means you cannot be denied coverage for a pre-existing condition, your insurer can’t drop you because you become sick, and if you like the plan you currently have, you can keep it.

Nor do you seem to care that the Republicans will roll back clean air and water requirements, so corporations can make more money and continue to lay waste to the planet with wars for oil and oil spills. (Texas has already made pollution controls on factories “optional” and guess what, Texas has moved from very low pollution levels to #1 in the country for filthy air.  And all that air moves into Colorado.  Do you really want to “take your country back” to such unreasonable and careless policies so that the rich can become richer?  Don’t be stupid.  Vote for Democrats.
