Joe Biden’s Running Mate Is...Kamala Harris

  • by: Colorado Pols

UPDATE #2: It’s California Sen. Kamala Harris! Don’t ever doubt Colorado Pols readers.

——-

UPDATE: Per CNN, California Rep. Karen Bass has been informed that she is NOT the choice. According to The New York Times, it’s also NOT Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

——-
Democratic Presidential candidate Joe Biden has apparently selected his running mate and soon-to-be nominee for Vice President. He just hasn’t told us who it is.

As CNN reports, Biden has informed senior staff members on his campaign about his selection, with an announcement to come as soon as today. Earlier today, Biden’s campaign unveiled the top staffers for the VP-to-be. Whomever Biden selects, there’s no arguing that his campaign played up the suspense and expectations brilliantly.

Readers of Colorado Pols have consistently expressed the belief that California Sen. Kamala Harris will be the pick. We’ll find out soon if those predictions hold true.

Obviously we’ll update this post appropriately as news breaks.

      1. As an unreconstructed Hillary Democrat, I was not thrilled to see the party nominate a 77 year old white guy.  But Harris is 55, smart, tough and able to handle a maw deuce in a gunfight.  I may not live to see it but she may lead the survivors of Hillary's Army to the promised land in 2024 or 2028.

  1. Excellent choice.  It will energize the Black men and women base as was just noted by Jim "Statuary Hall" Clyburn.

This increases the likelihood that we won't just win, but will win decisively, which unfortunately is necessary to put down this budding dictatorship.

  2. I am thrilled. Carl Rove tried to keep her from getting elected as Attorney General in California because he saw her potential.  After she served in that position, she was elected to US Senator.

  3. I can hardly wait to find out what nickname Trump & Co. will try to put on Sen. Harris.  And how she reacts.

The VP debate is scheduled for October 7 at Kingsbury Hall on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake.  Could be "must watch" appointment television programming.

    1. “The pick makes all kinds of sense. It always made all kinds of sense. It energizes the most loyal segment of the Democratic base. It honors the election of Barack Obama and the legacy of Biden’s work in that administration, while simultaneously acknowledging the reality, seen now in the streets, that, despite the fond anesthetic rhetoric of conservatives, the election of Barack Obama did not solve entirely systemic racism in this society. It puts a prosecutorial edge on the campaign that any campaign against the current president* needs. It injects the campaign with hot molten steel. At the same time, Harris is a genuinely charismatic person. And it demonstrates that, unlike the incumbent, Joe Biden can handle tough criticism like an adult. Nobody was tougher on him during the campaign than Harris was. (Her summoning up his history on busing was the single most memorable haymaker of the entire cycle.) The pick says as much about him as it does about her. There won’t be anyone tailoring intel reports to avoid presidential tantrums.

“(Also, Harris’s election would enable Rep. Katie Porter to run for Senate in California. Bonus!)

“There is some baggage in Harris’s past as a prosecutor, and as an attorney general, which gives me pause, and which is why I didn’t vote for her in the primaries. But given the way events have unfolded over the past several months, and given the way the entire dynamic of the election has changed so utterly, the logic behind choosing her grew more compelling, not less. I kept coming back to the times I sat in at various hearings in which she challenged the members of the administration* that has led the nation into disaster, and she did so before they led the nation into disaster. She has receipts to carry us into the next decade.”

      ~ Charles P. Pierce

  4. As a Never-Trump Republican, my sole goal for November 3 is removal of the corrupt Mafia don, also known as Putin's lap dog, and as many of his enablers as can be bagged. This ticket has the best chance to accomplish that goal.
