See Ya Tom Delay

  • by: wade norris

DeLay was charged with money laundering and conspiracy to commit money. He faces a possible sentence of 5-99 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine on the money laundering charge, and 2-20 years in prison and a possible $10,000 fine on the conspiracy charge.

This song is going to take on a new meaning…

The worse result of his criminal activity?

The money laundering help bring a majority to Republicans in Texas who then went on to the  illegal redistricting of the Texas house districts resulting in a 12 seat GOP swing in Congress in 2004.

  1. we’re seeing history repeat itself Wade. And the cycle is getting extremely short now. Will we flip back in two years to another D majority? I just heard on NPR how the spin-meisters and fund-raisers on the left are taking lessons from the drubbing they just received.

I think we’re in for a long and rocky road ahead of ourselves.

  2. As if what he did is any different from what the Democracy Alliance has done for the past decade to get Democrats elected. This is a politically motivated prosecution. DeLay will easily be able to tie it up in court until the lame duck congress is gone. I think they were just in the mood for political revenge after their devastating defeat this year.

    1. Because nobody is charging anyone with Democracy Alliance with money laudering. They’re not going to trial and being found guilty by a jury of their peers on all charges.

Do you not see the difference? No, of course you don’t because your gauge of right and wrong is calibrated only to one thing – if it benefits the GOP or is to the Dems’ disadvantage then it’s good, no matter what it is, and if it’s the opposite it’s bad.

Facts are never on your side.

      1. The Democracy Alliance isn’t into funneling corporate donations through the DNC and out to Texas state candidates.

In fact, they must be BJ’s Bogeyman Of The Day, because it doesn’t appear that they even have a PAC – the organization doesn’t donate to candidates or political parties AT ALL.

        1. Fox News is the Republican’s Department of Propaganda, with Glenn Beck acting as Goebbels and the beej as a loyal stormtrooper disseminating big lies. Nice life our little math graduate has.

            1. The parallels exist and are totally fair to use in this case. Would you like me to show them?

I’m going to create a rule against knee-jerk calls of Godwin’s Law. Need to think of an appropriate penalty…

              1. For one thing, Glenn Beck is blonde and Goebbels was a brunette.  🙂

Seriously though, you can make anyone out to be a Nazi if you try hard enough. I don’t think it was a knee-jerk Godwin’s call. All Godwin’s law says is that any thread will mention the Nazis at some point, so I think it still rings true.

                1. Comparing them to Nazis, when apt, doesn’t count. They aren’t Nazis, but some of the shit Beck spews really is textbook Goebbels, particularly when he accuses Soros and NPR of the crimes that his boss Murdoch and his employer Fox News are committing.

    2. We’ve got a great diary up today about the duties of jurists, and a jury down in Texas that unanimously agreed (with ~20 hours of pouring over the facts presented) that Tom DeLay was guilty of the crimes described.

DeLay conspired with the RNC, members of his PAC, and corporations to launder money in an attempt to avoid a specific Texas law banning corporate donations to Texas candidates.  This isn’t, as both you and Hiking have now promoted, a “normal” thing.  (In fact, given that the $190,000 is found to have been directed at Texas legislative candidates – and therefore was “hard money” – I think it exceeds the legal PAC-to-national committee limit of the day.  I.e. it was an FEC violation at the time.)

      1. the lame duck Congress is judge, jury, and executioner. But don’t worry, as soon as that Republican Congress gets in there, DeLay will be exonerated. That’s how the Constbeejtution was written, all those months ago.

            1. . . . one for each state in the union.

(California has been permanently expelled from Beejmerica.  And, as every devoted ‘bagger really knows — Hawaii was never an “official” state.)

    3. Yeah that what it is when REPUBLICANS get charged with crimes.

When Democrats get accused of illicit Blow Jobs… Criminal!

I do agree Delay will hold off serving his sentence as long as his sentence is.

However I do know Delay was convicted of TWO Felonies. in Texas a regular person convicted of just one felony typically gets 2-20 years in prison.

either way the “hammer” got Hammered. I am sure these two convictions are just a couple of the numerous Felonious acts DeLay has committed.

    4. I’m certain that President Palin’s first official act will be to grant Tom a full and one-conditional pardon.

(I mean, anyone who can launder campaign money and also hoof it as well as him would make one hell of a hubby for Bristol — do you think Tom likes moose liver too?)

  3. “I AM the federal government.” -Tom DeLay, to the owner of Ruth’s Chris Steak House, after being told to put out his cigar because of federal government regulations banning smoking in the building, May 14, 2003
