Hickenlooper or Gardner...and by How Much?

Sen. Cory Gardner and John Hickenlooper

We haven’t asked readers this question since early July, when the consensus seemed to be that Democrat John Hickenlooper is headed for a comfortable victory over Republican Cory Gardner in November.

What say you now, Polsters? Who is going to win Colorado’s marquee race? Senator Cory Gardner or former Governor John Hickenlooper?

As always, we want to know what you think will happen here — not what you want to happen or who you personally might support. If you had to place a bet — right now — on one of the following options, what would you select?

      1. The "corruption" ads come from former progressive Terrance Carroll and his "Unite Colorado" anti-corruption group.

Funny that Mr. Carroll says nothing about the state Republican committee and its questionable shenanigans.

        1. Just checking to see if we're talking about the same things. There's a "Unite For Colorado," and a "Unite Colorado," and they are quite different. Terrance Carroll is indeed behind Unite Colorado, but I think the corruption ads are coming from Unite For Colorado. They're on TV and they're still talking about signing a petition for a ballot measure that won't be on this year's ballot.

            1. Just a quick update, Dustin Zvonek is the point person for Unite For Colorado. He was with Americans For Prosperity for years, and has worked on a bunch of other conservative campaigns. I looked on the Sec of State website and they're listed as an Independent Expenditure Committee, so I didn't find any contribution info. Colorado Sun reported they did a $2.2 million ad buy for July and August.

        2. So this isn't even a ballot initiative … yet. It is soliciting signatures for a petition AND simultaneously defecating on Hickenlooper.

For all the $$$$ they've spent on these ads, they've managed to bring Gardner to within 10% of Hick in the polls.

  1. Colorado Sen. Cory Gardner boasts stronger support among his party’s base than most of the other GOP Senate contenders this year, but he is being lapped by Democratic rival and former Gov. John Hickenlooper among independents, who make up the lion’s share of the state’s active voter rolls.

Morning Consult’s daily tracking among likely voters from Aug. 21-30 shows Hickenlooper leading Gardner by 29 percentage points, 54 percent to 25 percent, among independents.

Morning Consult shares some news about Gardner which is bound to sting a bit….
