Governor John Hickenlooper Open Thread

  • by: Colorado Pols

Our friends at KDVR report:

Under sunny skies and with temperatures in the low single digits, John Hickenlooper took oath of office as Colorado’s 42nd governor Tuesday morning.

“I could not be more humbled to be your governor and I am deeply, deeply grateful,” Hickenlooper told a large crowd of elected officials, media and observers who gathered on the west steps of the State Capitol.

“We face challenging times and I am glad that we will face them together.”

At least for this morning, Gov. John Hickenlooper will face those challenges without air cover from the Colorado Air National Guard–F-16s from Buckley could reportedly not be flown over the Capitol for Hickenlooper’s swearing-in due to the extreme cold.

If you attended today’s swearing-in, or are headed tonight to the inaugural party at the Fillmore, use this space to tell us how it goes–we’d love to see your “dressy Western” photos, too.

      1. But he is, snicker, a warrior after all.  Always on alert for a chance to say something stupid about a Democrat, or something stupid about a Republican, or something stupid generally.  In the line of duty and all that.

        1. with all his crackerjack investigative work about Jared Loughner being a REGISTERED DEMOCRAT.

He’s just back today to reinforce the stupid in case there was any shadow of a doubt.

Our very own dim warrior on Pols.

    1. But back in reality, Hickenlooper and Ritter are very different and we can look forward to many changes in policy and style.

Not eager to trade Ritter’s unwavering support for green energy for Hickenlooper’s waffling, but at least it seems likely that he’ll work more effectively with the legislature than Ritter did.

  1. The cold would have dampened neither my gratitude for all the people who supported and voted for “Helicopter Garcia” (still my favorite line from the 2010 election) nor my enthusiasm for the newest Governor and Lt. Governor!

    Congrats to all Coloradans!!

    1. Or maybe a big cowboy belt buckle is composed of a couple of pounds of silver and so big that you can sled on it like a saucer.

I too am disappointed John didn’t get down with a more funky wardrobe.

      1. ala Ken Salazar, Ben Nighthorse Campbell, etc., etc. . . .

How about ‘Hick with a white 10-gallon hat, Bolo tie, a belt that has “Governor Hickenlooper” etched around the back (if his waist is big enough), a monstrous silver belt buckle the size of a hubcap, and knee-high cowboy boots (with his pants tucked inside the boots, of course), and leather fringed jacket (optional)?

A kind of ‘Hick-meets-Woody look, that would be so outlandishly funny and over-the-top that no Colorado politician would ever dare to wear any of that nonsensical garb ever again.
