RNC Election -7th Rnd- Reince Wins with 97 Votes

( – promoted by Colorado Pols)

After a long, long process, Reince Priebus, the Chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party has won the RNC Chairmanship.

After winning, Reince thanked Jesus, his family, republican leaders from his home state and talked about the need for conservative candidates.

Update:

Reince Priebus wins the RNC Chairmanship with 97 votes.

Seventh Round

97 – Reince Priebus – Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman

43- Saul Anuzis – Michigan Committeeman

28 – Maria Cino – Pfizer lobbyist

Update:

Ann Wagner, who dropped from 28 votes to 17 votes in the sixth round, has dropped out and released her supporters to do “what they feel in their hearts.”

Update:

After the sixth round, Reince is 5 votes away from winning.

80 – Reince Priebus – Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman

34 – Maria Cino – Pfizer lobbyist

37- Saul Anuzis – Michigan Committeeman

17 – Ann Wagner – Missouri GOP Chair

Update:

As the fifth round drew to a close, Reince Priebus drew closer to the magic 85 votes needed to win the election. He had 67 votes, up 9 more votes. Michael Steele’s endorsement of Maria Cino after he dropped out gave her about 11 more votes for a total of 40. Saul Anuzis, trailing all day moved to third place by picking up 8 more votes. Wagner stayed the same at 28 votes.

Fifth Round

67 – Reince Priebus – Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman

40 – Maria Cino – Pfizer lobbyist

32- Saul Anuzis – Michigan Committeeman

28 – Ann Wagner – Missouri GOP Chair

1 – Ineligible write-in candidate

Update:

Little Birdy Report: Comments from anonymous RNCers caught on microphone:

“We don’t know enough about Reince yet.” “We’ll make some up.” “Reince has no agenda and no ego.”

“Let’s make sure we don’t turn this over to the Washington Insiders.”

Update: Michael Steele has dropped out of running after fourth ballot.

He releases his supporters and endorses Maria Cino.

After the fourth round of voting, Michael Steele walked to the podium and made about a five minute speech which included these lines:

“Two year’s we’ve had a good time. The party wants to do something a little different. Despite the noise, we WON! I am a fighter because I believes in the fight. The party is ready for something different. We fired Nancy Pelosi. I exit, stage right.”

After a few hugs, Michael Steele could be seen walking looking for people to talk too. Nobody was lining up to talk to him. Amazing when the power shifts, it is gone.

Update:

In the fourth round of voting, Reince Priebus pulled four more voters to his side securing 58 votes while Steele dropped down to a third-place tie with Ann Wagner at 28 votes. Maria Cino is in a distant second place with 29 votes. Curiously, a write-in candidate received a vote, however it was ineligible. Any bets on whose name was on that paper? Sarah Palin maybe, or Barack Obama for the ultimate prank?

58 – Reince Priebus – Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman

29 – Maria Cino – Pfizer lobbyist

28 – Michael Steele – RNC Chairman

28 – Ann Wagner – Missouri GOP Chair

24- Saul Anuzis – Michigan Committeeman

1 – Ineligible write-in candidate

Update:

Third Round Sees Priebus Slip away at a Snail’s Pace

With the third round over, Reince pads his lead by 2 votes and Steele drops four more votes.

Two comments overheard from the microphones by two unidentified RNC chair-people may encapsulate the feeling of the room.

RNC Woman “I’m tired.”

RNC Man “Me too.”

Third Round – Results

54 – Reince Priebus – Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman

33- Michael Steele – RNC Chairman

32 – Ann Wagner – Missouri GOP Chair

28 – Maria Cino – Pfizer lobbyist

21- Saul Anuzis – Michigan Committeeman

Update:

The second round of voting has Michael Steele slipping.

Priebus: 52

Steele: 37

Cino: 30

Wagner: 27

Anuzis: 22

RNC Chairman Michael Steele was nudged out of first place for the RNC chairmanship, by Reince Priebus, the Wisconsin Republican Chairman by one vote on the party’s first ballot.

A total of 85 votes is required to be elected chair.

I would love to be a fly on the elephant lapel pin of those people that are lobbying for the votes of the lower candidate’s supporters.

Here are the vote tallies for the first round.

45 – Reince Priebus – Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman

44 – Michael Steele – RNC Chairman

32 – Maria Cino – Pfizer lobbyist

24 – Saul Anuzis – Michigan Committeeman

23 – Ann Wagner – Missouri GOP Chair

How many rounds of voting will there be?

          1. If Tim Tebow wins us a Superbowl I’ll start going to church regularly again.  That way 1) Denver becomes an NFL juggernaut again, like the old days, and 2) another soul is saved from eternal damnation.  It’s a win-win.

  1. Doing the same thing over and over and expenting diofferent results.

The GOP’s election of a chair puzzles me in that after each round they do not eliminate any canddiates.  Therefore they keep voting for the same 5 people, none of which are anywhere close to the majority to win. I guess the expectation is that poeple doing poorly will eventually withdrawl, but by then, you have wasted half the day.

One thing i do envy the GOP for: when the chair of the meeting tells them to sit down, they actually do it. That would NEVER happen at a Dem meeting.

    1. I was wondering if/when candidates would start dropping off.

As the rounds continue, we get to the good stuff, when the lobbying skills, arm twisting and down right hair pulling happens as the front runners try and maintain and increase their leads by getting votes from other candidates.

        1. with Ann Wagner right now. I think Cino is also going to drop out here shortly. He’s steadily dropping. If Wagner pulls Steele’s votes, it would put her ahead of Priebus.

          1. If she could pull all of them or just a portion.

Wow, even with all of his current votes and hers she would still only be at 65, 20 short of the total needed.

    1. Michael Steele unintentionally said it best himself at a debate for chairman of the Republican National Committee: “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” he said, incorrectly attributing the line to “War and Peace,” which he called his favorite book. (It’s from “A Tale of Two Cities.”)

      (my emphasis)

          1. Part of an online discussion group. Ought to be interesting.

Your statement reminded me of a Russian prof I had in college. LOVED Dostoevsky, HATED Tolstoy. He made it sound like all Russia was divided into armed camps on the topic, and the only thing keeping them from going at each other’s throats was that they all agreed that Pushkin was the greatest Russian poet of all time…

            1. I enjoyed Anna Karenina, though. I just find Tolstoy’s takes too long to get to the point. In all fairness, a bad translation can ruin that book so if you found a version with a good one, it’s an enjoyable read. There’s a husband and wife team, I can’t think of their names, that are excellent and just translated Karenina about 10 years ago. She’s Russian, he’s American and they are outstanding.

        1. Then I read “Tale of Two Cities,” which hooked me.  I loved that book.

Then I started “Great Expectations” and have never read Dickens again.  But I still have fond memories of TTC.

  2. has the latest tweets from the floor. My favorite so far: Steele, as he’s ending his withdrawal announcement, says, “and now I exit stage right” – and promptly exits stage left.

Steele has endorsed Maria Cino, John Boehner’s pick, but the twitter traffic is heavily against her because she lobbied for federal health care reform.

  3. Priebus 67

    Cino 40,

    Anuzis 32,

    Wagner 28

Anuzis, btw, was Dick Wadhams’ pick for chair.

And Steele’s endorsement didn’t translate into huge vote uptick for Cino – she had 29 in the last round and had she gotten all of Steele’s, she’d be in the upper 50s.

  4. Cino only picked up 11 of Steele’s votes.  I’ve gotta figure some of those folks were only sticking with her for 1 round and hopefully Wagner will drop out.

    1. Wagner just dropped out so hopefully the 7th round will be the last one. Priebus only needs to pick up 5 votes and I’m guessing those will come from Wagner’s block.

Bummer. I was sort of hoping for Wagner for a variety of reasons.

  5. when Steele was giving his concession speech and people started cheering, I just imagined him thinking to himself, “sit down you jackasses!  You’ll cheer for me but not vote for me?!?!  Flippin’ bastards!”  😛

  6. Although it goes to show the difference between politics and football that even a winning season can get you bounced in politics.

The replacement, Reince Priebus, is more interesting as this shows where the GOP is headed as a party.  He’s been described as an “establishment” pick to replace Steele, although who knows what the establishment is these days.
