Palin Was Coming to Colorado?

  • by: Colorado Pols

As our friends at the Washington Post report, it was announced Friday that possible 2012 presidential candidate Sarah Palin was coming to Colorado in May, to speak at an event for military families hosted by the Sharon K. Pacheco Foundation. Apparently, we missed this.

Which is fine, we guess, because yesterday they canceled her appearance:

Palin was to speak at the Patriots & Warriors Gala at the Infinity Park Event Center in Glendale, Colo., which was billed as an awards banquet and fundraiser for military families in need and for a grief camp for children who had lost loved ones in combat.

But the event, sponsored by the Sharon K. Pacheco Foundation, was canceled Saturday, a day after it had been announced to the media. A press release posted on the sponsoring organization’s Facebook page reads, “Due to an onslaught of personal attacks against Gov. Palin and others associated with her appearance, it is with deep sadness and disappointment that, in the best interest of all, we cancel the event for safety concerns.”

The press release goes on to say that no direct threats were made against Palin, nor were any made against members of the organization’s staff, but in light of the shooting rampage in Arizona last month, the negative rhetoric “raises concern for her safety and the safety of others despite the call for civility in America.”

It’s kind of funny, because usually when we see a politician upset about “an onslaught of personal attacks,” and it’s in Colorado, we can find out what they’re talking about in our comment threads. No such luck this time. We haven’t gotten a press release or angry blast email from any of the usual-suspect Democratic aligned groups, or Pat Waak either. What we’re trying to say, we guess, is we’re unaware of any response to Palin’s announced visit that rises to the level of “an onslaught of personal attacks.” In fact, we don’t really have evidence that anybody cared at all.

Oh, wait a minute, as the WaPo continues:

The cancellation of the speaking engagement frees Palin to attend the NBC/Politico Republican presidential primary debate at the Reagan Presidential Library in California, also scheduled for May 2. But none of the potential 2012 Republican candidates have said they will attend.

If the major GOP presidential candidates announce that they’re going to this debate in the next few weeks, you might have your answer as to why Palin canceled–though it would be politically asinine to volunteer Palin’s regrettable response to the shootings in Tucson as an excuse. But even if this schedule-conflicted debate is not why she canceled, we don’t see anything to suggest that a hostile anticipated reception in Colorado was a legitimate reason.

And as always, you can infer from that what you will.

      1. Those mean lefties terrorizing me, stifling my freedom of speech because they hate freedom, hate the troops, love terrorists and want to take away our guns. Yawn. I personally will never demand anyone cancel a Palin appearance. Wouldn’t it be funny if, by the time she gets her name trademarked, she’s over due to lack of  attention?

  1. but my guess is that foundations don’t need a bunch of negativity in their publicity events. Who the hell wants a protest at a fundraiser?

SKP announced and marketed this thing. I’m happy to report that none of our regular posters have such a hate on that they track her every little move. One of SKP’s newer followers is “Barbie Palin” on Facebook. Idle hands… You’d have to be really, really watching, but for some idiots the information was apparently worth it.

I think most of us work and/or have friends and family. This is good news!

  2. Jan. 17, i believe, and the starting price was %165, according to the Web site when i looked on Friday, with sponsorships going for $25K. remember, this is someone who didn’t sell out Magness at DU last May. The group portrays it them canceling because of angry response, but one hast to wonder…

    1. News of $arah’s reversal and cancellation of the gala comes almost exactly 90 days before the date of the event.  Hmm, anyone in hospitality or venue contracts know all about getting the money upfront and forcing strict adherence to the payment schedule.

Pacheco’s couldn’t sell tickets and had to back out before they would be forced to shell out sizable amounts of their $$s.

Gala & $arah cancellation has NOTHING to do with her safety or personal attacks but rather with crappy businessfolk that can’t pull off an event.

Pacheco’s bailed when costs were added up and their liability was coming due.  Pacheco’s pretty well putting out a big old LIE to hide behind and shrill out a dog whistle note to $ister $arah’s zombies.

  3. According to posters in the comments of the major Denver daily, Pacheco is not listed as a charitable organization with the Colorado SOS, raised $0 in 2009, and $1000 in 2008.

How they could land a heavy hitter like Palin is a mystery, as is the supposed surprise at the negative publicity her appearance has generated.

  4. I guess in Palin’s hypocritical view, there’s only a connection between rhetoric and violence when the left’s doing the talking.

Not that there’s any evidence that anyone WAS talking about Palin coming to Denver – let alone evidence of any threats to her safety.

    What a hypocritical wuss.

  5. Not because I’m a big Palin fan. I’m not even a small Palin fan. I can’t stand the woman. I was sad that such a thing could happen. That’s not cool that an appearance was canceled due to such hatred.

But your post got me thinking about it more. Since when does THE Momma Grizzly back down from anything?? She’s like a barroom hero, she doesn’t back down from anything!

I find it hard to believe that none of the hateful personal attacks showed up on the internet. There’s nothing on any site (SPK’s Facebook page, spkfoundation.com, freerepublic.com, etc.) to suggest an onslaught or even a mini-onslaught.

    I call shenanigans!

    SHENANIGANS!

  6. This is a foundation that barely exists. Look them up on the SOS web site. Their articles of incorporation don’t say anything about military families or grief counseling, instead it’s aoitnscholarships for kids and religious ministry. They have been perpetually delinquent on their SOS filings. And they have never registered to do charitale solicitations in this state.

All the evidence suggests this is nothing but a scam.

  7. It’s the Voice of the Liberal Hate Machine, you know.

I read the 281 comments on the

Sarah Palin To Speak At Patriots And Warriors Gala In May
story to find the hate and I found…

    4 removed comments

A threat to throw tomatoes..or shoes or eggs.

A call to pray for rain.

A comment calling her a walking punchline that needs to go now.

A perfect example of the Liberal Hate. It starts with “Dear Sarah CopyrighteВd Palin. I hate you.”

Someone called her a Box of Rocks.

Aha! A commenter wants her dead! No wait, they want her institutionalized.

    More tomato threats.

Now we’re on to the comments after it was announced that the event was canceled. I’m sure all the haters will goat about how their hatred scared away Palin…

Here’s one! A commenter praises the negative, hateful, vile attacks but calls it “negative feedback” instead. It may be a sneaky onslaught.

There was gloating about how smart Coloradans are, how shady the SKP Foundation looks, but nothing to hint at an onslaught.

    Once again…..SHENANIGANS!
