The Hancock for Mayor campaign announced that Michael’s We Are Denver campaign has landed the endorsement of the Teamsters Union. The Teamsters represent more than 1,000 city employees.
Read about it here http://hancockformayor.com/con…
The Teamster members have seen first-hand Hancocks work as President of the City Council and know he is the kind of mayor who will best represent them. His work for the Urban League where he took a nearly bankrupt organization and turned it around to be financially sound while he was the youngest CEO ever of an Urban League demonstrated his commitment to working families and his financial management capabilities.
Hancock’s We Are Denver campaign is quickly gaining support from labor, notable republicans and some of the biggest names in education reform. With 1,000 members from Teamsters plus their families, this will likely get Hancock over 3k – 4k votes and puts Hancock in a very good position to be in the top two on May 3 where it will probably only take 25,000 votes to get into the runoff

Ok, I’m all for honking one’s favorite candidates horn and even doing a little spin to get people excited about the candidate, but there are some major issues with some of the assumptions being made and so it is either “pie in the sky” dreaming or just plain trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes.
While the Teamsters may have over 1,000 members – which I highly doubt since there is no collective bargaining for city employees – they are not required to live in Denver to work in Denver. Sure it would be great for your candidate if they did but that is one leap in assumption that all 1,000 do in fact live in Denver and will be dragging their families/friends to vote.
Also, it’s a mayoral election where voter turnout is pretty weak as we all know.
To assume that one labor union is going to be able to bring in 14% of the vote to reach 25,000 is some major reaching. IF Hancock received the endorsement of the Teamsters, AFL-CIO, SEIU, DALF, etc., then he MIGHT receive 14% of the vote from their support. Until then, he is probably only looking at a few hundred votes – on the high end – from the endorsement.
While those votes matter of course, what he really needs from the Teamsters is the max contribution amount.
Wow, did I just really write a response that’s longer than the post? I need a life.
Is Hancock still visiting “marijuana-addicted babies” at Children’s Hospital, like he claimed, at a City Council meeting, to have done one time?
Doesn’t that sound like complete and utter bullshit to you, and make you the slightest bit, well, “angry”?
