NPR CO-based Ron Schiller fired for calling tea party 'racist'

  • by: Donald Johnson

NPR’s Colorado-based fund raiser, Ron Schiller, has been fired for calling the tea party racist and has lost his new job at the Aspen Institute for the same reason. Calling people “racist” apparently is a no no everywhere but in Colorado, I guess.

What’s sad is that so many liberals call people who don’t agree with them “racist” because the liberals are intolerant of dissent. There is no difference between racism and intolerance. They both involve hating people who are different and who have different beliefs, values and opinions. Hate is not pretty, and haters are sick people.

I’m wondering whether Coloradopols should ban people who call others “racists”? It might mean that a huge percentage of Coloradopols’ regular commenters would be banned, but think about the “civility” it would bring to the blog.

But, then, that’s probably not a good idea. I mean, we should tolerate incivility, if not racism. Don’t you think?

Ban "racist" ?

  1. There’s a difference between racism and dissent. A rather large one. Unfortunately the two terms being different doesn’t stop some people being the former.

What’s your point? Nasty liburls did the right thing, the thing you agree with, and you’re still angry? Got it. You’re angry.

  2. could you, Don? He wasn’t fired. He resigned his position.

According to the Aspen Institute’s press release this morning, Schiller ceded his position.

“Ron Schiller has informed us that, in light of the controversy surrounding his recent statements, he does not feel that it’s in the best interests of the Aspen Institute for him to come work here,” the Aspen Institute said in a statement Wednesday.

    1. They let him resign after telling him he was done, I think. Or he saw he was about to be fired and quit.

It doesn’t matter. It’s clear that NPR didn’t want him around and made his resignation effective immediately after disowning his stupidity.

      1. Yeah, you think–wow, there’s some proof.

Your diary wasn’t about NPR–it was about Aspen Institute. Do try and remember what you wrote, will ya?

      2. lil’ johnson just doesn’t like to cite facts, haven’t y’all learned?

lil’ johnson likes his ‘facts’ to fit his opinion and damn you if you’re just to ignorant to know better.

anyone care 2 can go back thru all his old posts and see just how he operates.  Lil’ johnson knows things … just knows ’em and it’s just wasted breath to tell him otherwise.

Hell, he’s not gonna say Obama is a Muslim but sure seems that way … based on all of lil’ johnson’s facts.

And he’s not gonna say all Muslims are bad but sure seems that way … based on how they hate American and they’re all forcing that big bad celebratory mosque on supposed hallowed ground in NY (again, these are his facts).

Rep. King’s anti-muslim Joe McCarthying started today so betcha we’re all gonna be privy to some more of lil’ johnsons ‘facts’

in his next posting.  Same as before, then we’ll see him go silent when folks refute with honest, verifiable, FACTS … all counter to the drivel dribbling forth from  lil’ johnsons ciphering brain.  Just watch …

  3. What’s the problem?

It’s a great example of what more people should do.

That some people are called racist even though they are not does not mean there are no racists.

And not feeling like what you said or did is racist is not proof that you are not. It’s proof that you didn’t feel like it was racist.

When President Obama was depicted as a monkey, that was a racist reference.  When he is called “boy” that is a racist reference.  It’s not hard to see racism when it isn’t there. Likewise it’s not hard to see it when it is.

    1. As you say, there’s racism out there, and a lot of it is coming from Tea Party members.

I think it’s more that his ability to fundraise was damaged by him saying what he believed he observed in the Tea Party.

  4. Do you think we should call people “bigots” or “racists” on this site when they post something denigrating people of color or of a specific religion?  Or is that perhaps being a bit too insensitive for you?

    1. But if you tell it like it is, Big Bird gets it.

That’s the only point of this, to make a case that NPR doesn’t like the Tea Party so can’t be objective so doesn’t deserve federal funding. It has nothing to do with the shrinking violets in the Tea Party, who can actually handle an insult or two.

                    1. Because that line is bound to come back to haunt you.

I never blew up little children.

    2. I can’t recall that anyone has posted an obviously racist statement here, but then I don’t read every thread or post.

What I do see here is people calling those they disagree with “racist” because they can’t answer the other person thoughtfully.  I think there are a lot of kids here who think that name calling is effective.

      1. I’ve even removed a few.

And I’ve seen some statements that may be or may not be.  When the poster defends the racist take – it’s racist.

      2. As to your question about whether we should ban someone who calls another person a “racist”…we wouldn’t. Should we ban people who call others “socialists”? It’s a stupid counterargument to use either descriptive term without good reason, but there’s nothing inherently wrong about it. There’s no crime to incorrectly using words like “racist” or “socialist.” It may be stupid, but we don’t police stupidity.

And finally, our biggest question: How do two of the top people at NPR have the same last name but have no relation? What are the odds of that?

        1. I’m working on a trade conference and have three sets of identical names. Jane Doe from Jane Doe’s business and Jane Doe from corporate whore business. I’ve nearly deleted one or two of them.

An even bigger question: beer v stupidity? So many sig lines, so few sockpuppets!

        2. When I ran a board, I said you could call politicians whatever you want to, because name calling comes with the job of being an elected official or a bureaucrat. But I didn’t allow name calling directed at other posters because I wanted some “civility”. I guess that’s not important here. And we’ve known that for a long time, actually.

As for the Schillers being unrelated, try Johnson.

          1. You’re such a victim. “When I ran a board…”

Here’s a tip: if you don’t like how the blog is moderated, start your own damn blog. Or restart, in this case.

Either way, you’re a classic example of whiny Republican victim-hood.

  5. That hack, O’Keefe, tried to get Schiller to say something anti-Semitic.  But Ron Schiller is Jewish!  I wonder how that was supposed to work…

Shiller apparently stayed quiet through that part of the dialog, not wanting to piss off a supposed donor.

  6. Of all the people to expose O’Keefe as a complete scam artist (yet again)…  The Blaze, Glen Beck’s online blog (probably the first and last time I’ll be linking there) has done an analysis of the full video O’Keefe has of Ron Schiller.

And the results are, essentially, that once again O’Keefe has completely re-edited the video to say what he wanted it to say, rather than what Schiller actually said.

       1) O’Keefe’s edited video portrayed NPR’s Ron Schiller as happily willing to take a donation from a Muslim Brotherhood front group. The long-form video downplays the connection to the Brotherhood, and discusses its current status as a moderate, non-violent organization.

       2) The edited video portrayed Schiller reacting approvingly in a discussion of Sharia law. The long-form video shows that the response was actually to a different subject entirely. It was just edited in to make it appear as if he was responding the discussion of Sharia law.

       3) The edited video portrayed Schiller as hostile to Republicans and conservatives. The long-form video shows him praising the GOP. Those remarks were completely cut out.

       4) The edited video portrayed Schiller disparaging the Tea Party as racist. The long-form video shows that those remarks were actually the views of others that was describing.

       5) The edited video portrayed Schiller demeaning the intelligence of conservatives. The long-form video shows both him and his NPR colleague defending the intellect of conservatives and even Fox News viewers.

       6) The edited video portrayed Schiller asserting that federal funding for NPR was not necessary or desirable. The long-form video shows him going into detail about the necessity of those funds.

    1. before ‘journalists’ (the real ones, not Breibart) quite ‘reporting’ his story before they actually check his ‘facts.’  It’s a pitiful race to fill the 24/7 news void.

But this is like the third or fourth time.  Now the newsreaders say ‘the activist who took down ACORN’ and crap without even reporting that that was a bunch of BS, as they tell this ‘story’ before even checking to see if it too is BS, which–unsurprisingly to anyone other than an idiot–it is.

Its rather amazing.  Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice and… HEY BREAKING STORY-O’Keefe video shows…
