It was petty and mean when Rush made fun of Chelsea Clinton; let’s not sink to his level.
Santorum’s the kind of guy that only his immediate family could love?
but what about his child that died that he brought home to meet the family?
I haven’t. I can’t imagine the level of grief a parent experiences. I can’t imagine what I would do in that situation. And I can’t imagine any decent human being disparaging a family that did what they did.
my family grieve … and I still hurt from the loss of my only brother. And I hope beyond hope for a safe and healthy life for my sons — I do not want to think of the crushing despair & grief I would ever feel if something befell either one.
But in all the deaths that have occurred within my family I don’t recall nor believe the hospital ever asked, “so, umm, ya wanna take him with ya … and do … whatever?”
I do believe there are some laws on the books regarding the handling of bodies of the deceased. Yeah, I believe that if even someone dies at home ya can’t just load up in the family truckster and cart ’em off to your local undertaker (at least in almost every urban American city. There are definitely laws on the books about the care & handling & transportation of the dead — regardless of age.
So just dig around a little and see if you find any other POTUS wannabes with one of these little nuggets of “something not right with that” in their history. I’m open to a show of hands for any & all posters to weigh in on the topic.
In Colorado you can load Grandma in the front seat and drive around. If you do something deemed inappropriate (like dress the corpse in party hats and take pictures – true story) it may be considered illegal.
At any rate, the penalties are usually reflected by the risk to the public. So a baby dying of TB and being driven around would be a big deal. This wouldn’t be treated so harshly.
Everyone’s right here. It is a little creepy and Santorum doesn’t mind telling others they can’t do things he deems creepy. But it’s also not that not normal. It’s only the possible contamination of the living that stopped this kind of thing happening, it was common many, many moons ago. And it’s still quite common for murder victims to be kissed, touched, and spoken to by loved ones in a morgue. And while I haven’t read Colorado’s Mortuary Science Code since the overhaul in ’06 (or so), it was legal to take a body you had rights to to that point. Probably still is. Colorado also has weird burial laws, or a stunning lack of them.

Perhaps this grieving family did show some poor taste and judgment at a time of intense grief. That in my mind is more understandable, and certainly more forgivable, than the poor taste and judgment of anyone who would try to make an issue out of this matter.
I’ve heard from many people it is harder to lose a child than a parent, and losing my Dad last year was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. I can’t even imagine the anguish, and would completely understand if someone lost their sanity temporarily under the circumstances.
Try losing a kid or a grandkid sometime.
I can’t stand Santorum, but anyone who tries to use this against him is more of a scumbag than Santorum is.
