  1. He is quite possibly the least telegenic politician I’ve ever seen. Usually those ads are great for the person in office, but he looks more like Curly from the Three Stooges than a statewide elected official.

  2. from USA Today

The combination of limited visas for foreign-born engineers and a dearth of college-educated engineers in the U.S. could help create a new wave of billion-dollar tech companies in India. Entrepreneurs such as Bahl are relocating to India and elsewhere to fulfill their start-up dreams – and compete with the very companies they once worked for in the U.S.

All these people that come here for school, want to stay and start companies here, and we force them to go home and build companies & jobs at home. To compete with the companies here in the U.S. Why???

    1. But the article goes on to point out that their home countries offer much better opportunities now, and of course don’t have nearly as high a cost of living as California. So the desire to retain foreign-born talent will require more than immigration reform.

Perhaps this should be an opportunity to see if we can do something about growing American talent.

      1. Perhaps this should be an opportunity to see if we can do something about growing American talent.

But that requires we put in the effort and money that a quality educational system for all requires.

      2. People already here have been running around with their hair on fire over the threat of whatever they thought the real America was getting swamped by immigrants of a “different” kind ever since our nation’s birth. At the same time, immigration has always driven the economic engine. The more things change…

        1. and a friend labeled it as “The more things change…”

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country…. corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.”

U.S. President Abraham Lincoln, Nov. 21, 1864 (letter to Col. William F. Elkins)

It doesn’t fit here or anything. Well, kind of. So I’m posting it!

            1. I got it off teh Facebook. That’s pretty sturdy stuff.

Regardless, my friend labeled as I said and I thought of BlueCat when I read it. So the majority of my post is true.

              Now who’s false?

    2. Certainly as Aristotle said the cost of living is much lower there, so I’d expect salaries to be lower as well. When this was happening to manufacturing workers you said they should just retrain. Now that it’s happening to programmers your tune has changed. Learn to compete in a global economy or find another line of work.

Here, I’ll throw some buzzwords at you.

Dinosaur. Out-innovate. Outside the box. Stagnate. And finally I’ll close with “A ship moored in the harbor is safe, but that’s not why ships are built.”

      1. eventually throw off many of those monotonous lower skills programming jobs onto other countries.  But, that’s not a bad thing since it frees up our more talented American workers to pursue more rewarding careers in the tattoo, massage therapy, and reality television star industries.  No one gets to stand in the way of progress, and no one should try to.

  3. After Governor Hickenlooper signs it, it will be law in Colorado that first-johns will have an opportunity to go to class to learn about the unintended consequences of prostitution, in exchange for avoiding a permanent record.

    1. You worked hard for this and responded with dignity to very undignified attacks on you and your cause–I hope you will be treating yourself to some relaxation and celebration today.

  4. Chris Romer is Broke

    ( From Romer’s fundraising email)

After a game-changing endorsement from James Mejia, we were lucky to have many of his campaign staffers join our efforts as well. …

Every single dollar counts, and we’re not going to make it through Friday payroll without your help. Please make a small donation today and help us raise $10,000 this week so that our growing team can make it happen.

Hey Team Romer, never a good thing to claim you cannot make payroll when you roll out two new ads this week.  The only thing it does is freak out your staff members and make you seem like you cannot manage your money.

Just Saying… Hard to talk about budgets and the city when you are claiming you cannot pay the staff you have and cannot budget.

    1. If they don’t end up getting paid by Romer, he’ll have Union Taxi take care of transportation, and they can have unlimited free cupcakes for the duration.

      1. He’s paying the staff. According to Curtis Hubbard of the paper that shall not be named, Romer’s camp said they wouldn’t have taken on the staff in they couldn’t meet payroll. Although they did mention James was helping shoulder some of the burden.

It’s just a fundraising gimmick, so it’s not like they can’t afford to have a massive staff and a big TV presence. Whether or not claiming Chris Romer’s campaign is going broke is a smart fundraising gimmick is a different question entirely.

        1. that the man or his campaign isn’t always 100% forthright in their pronouncements . . .

This could lead someone somewhere to begin questioning his credibility . . .

        2. Ok so he just is trying to what scare his donors into the fact that he needs money.  Desperation is the first no no in fundraising.

    2. Aw come on. He was even starting to grow on me a teeny, tiny little bit. Not that I stopped hating his guts or anything, but I was sort of starting to accept that he might be not completely, irredeemably loathsome now that he’s employing some Mejia team members who I really, really, really respect.

For Pete’s sake. That’s incredibly inappropriate. Not just the ad spending before payroll spending, but what about his team’s privacy? He’s basically disclosing that anyone who works for him is supposed to be paid Friday and may not be–not exactly social security numbers, but it’s still private financial information that his employees might not like to see in an email blast.

And I thought this guy was the candidate running on his financial management skills…? Starting to sympathize with Hancock’s constant mentions of the “evil investment banker” thing.

      1. at all the good things investment banking has done for America just in these past 2 years, the choice is clear.  Romer for Mayor !

        1. Banks….

          Wall Street….

          Bankers….

          Wall Street Bankers….

Make him own it, and explain the lack of consumer protection at the state level. The best foreclosure protection laws are state laws -just not Colorado’s state laws. The best consumer finance protections (so far) are at the state level.

How many consumer finance /banking protections  did Romer support when he was in a position to do it in the legislature?    I couldn’t find any when I looked it up.  But that internet is a tricky thing, maybe I just missed it.  Just like I couldn’t find his support for mobile food delivery when FNB was doing it, just when the cupcake people anted to do it.

  5. CORUSCANT – Obi-Wan Kenobi, the mastermind of some of the most devastating attacks on the Galactic Empire and the most hunted man in the galaxy, was killed in a firefight with Imperial forces near Alderaan, Darth Vader announced on Sunday.

In a late-night appearance in the East Room of the Imperial Palace, Lord Vader declared that “justice has been done” as he disclosed that agents of the Imperial Army and stormtroopers of the 501st Legion had finally cornered Kenobi, one of the leaders of the Jedi rebellion, who had eluded the Empire for nearly two decades. Imperial officials said Kenobi resisted and was cut down by Lord Vader’s own lightsaber. He was later dumped out of an airlock.

The news touched off an extraordinary outpouring of emotion as crowds gathered in the Senate District and outside the Imperial Palace, waving imperial flags, cheering, shouting, laughing and chanting, “Hail to the Emperor! Hail Lord Vader!” In the alien protection zone, crowds sang “The Ten Thousand Year Empire.” Throughout the Sah’c district, airspeeder drivers honked horns deep into the night.

    1. One of the newer members of the press corps began to ask Lord Vader if they could see pictures of the body.  Unfortunately for him, he choked on his words and died.  Rumors that Lord Vader appeared agitated at the question are completely unfounded.

  6. Israel (awesome back story) and Denmark rocked. Better than any from the 1st semi-final. (We now have the 10 from each semi-final plus 5 that go direct to the final for the 25 competing Saturday.)

Ireland (the one most think will win), Austria, Sweden, Bulgaria, & Romania were all really good.

While Bosnia & Herzegovina and Moldavia (coneheads – really?) made a strong attempt, Portugal easily retains the title of worst act – by far.

And for Ralphie – The Twins from Slovakia, I think, did not hit a single note. You would think random chance would have had them hitting a couple.

  7. From the Washington Post:

I asked CIA Director Leon Panetta for the facts, and he told me the following: The trail to bin Laden did not begin with a disclosure from Khalid Sheik Mohammed, who was waterboarded 183 times. The first mention of Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti – the nickname of the al-Qaeda courier who ultimately led us to bin Laden – as well as a description of him as an important member of al-Qaeda, came from a detainee held in another country, who we believe was not tortured. None of the three detainees who were waterboarded provided Abu Ahmed’s real name, his whereabouts or an accurate description of his role in al-Qaeda.
