Can’t say I mind
Having played in a number of garage bands over the years, I know a very special garage band when I see one. These guys have a great time, throw caution to the wind, and hey–they’re working for tips. Not every garage band can say that. Colorado, meet Mariachi Cabos of Atlanta Georgia.
Their YouTube Channel is great. These guys think way out of the box with their song selection. Don’t miss their version of “Beat It” in which the trumpet player moonwalks across the restaurant floor.

Not nearly as upbeat, but beautiful. RIP Gerard Smith.
a stone cold classic.
Good way to start the day.
I recognize th ehorn section
Whos’ the drummer? he looks familiar.
Did Stevie ever play with Zawinul or Pastorus?
But that’s “Blue Lou” Marini (of the Blues Brothers) on tenor and Steve Madaio (Butterfield band, various other bands, original session man on the “Superstition” recording) on trumpet.
But give me a few weeks, and maybe I can track that down too.
What the hell. I have no life. Maybe I can dedicate some time to it.
I recognize his face- and it’s in the brain somewhere. But my brain is just not ornized enough to get there…..maybe Google can build a search engine for my brain…

I think he’s wrong about the trumpet player though.
Here’s a picture of Steve Madaio back in the day.
Ollie Brown used to play a lot of gigs in Chicago clubs
with whoever was in town or clubbing and I got to know him a little so he would tip me to who was coming to what club and where to expect the great after hours when big names were in town –
Muddy Waters at the Checkerboard.
Willie DIxon at Ma’s
Clapton’s whole freakin band, not EC, at some dive downtown.
He tipped me to the Blues Brothers before it went into production- told me Ackroyd and Belushi bought some rat hole in the loop to practice and drink after hours. My fake idea was never god enough to get me in.
Wow- good one.
Another mystery solved.
Now we can go back to making the world safe for democracy.
Here’s one for Friday the 13th.
…usually dig this version.
Thank you.

P.S. Anita Robinson of Viva Voce plays some nice noisy guitar:
