Republicans control every branch of the federal government yet nothing is done about the abysmal shape of our immigration laws until…Election time. Now it seems Both Ways Bob is abusing his franking privilege to run for governor. Check out the mailer below sent out at taxpayers expense.
I called Both Ways Bob congressional office to ask what specific legislation Bob was preparing based upon the feedback he receives from these taxpayer funded meetings. I never got a straight answer on if Republicans or Both Ways Bob will be voting on any immigration reform in this session.
I want to know if Both Ways Bob is wasting our tax dollars to have a dog and pony show for his gubernatorial run.

Pure politics. Part of the process. Every congressman plays it.
Where does Ritter stand on this issue? I think he’s wimpy on it, like Bush and Salazar and BB was until fairly recently.
Correct?
I doubt immigration reform is going to be the decisive issue in this election.
What do you think?
Weasel answer. Very much a weasel answer.
So wants-to-be-Governor Beauprez is going to hold a town hall where he’s going to have a discussion on an issue that’s dead in the Congress due to disagreements between the House and Senate. He’s going to do it about a month before Congress adjourns for election season, and he doesn’t plan to come back. Furthermore, he’s going to drag both State and Federal resources there under cover that this is an official “town hall” meeting.
Just what does he plan on discussing? How ineffective he could be on immigration if he’s elected Governor? Or maybe it’s more about how ineffective he could be if he’s *not* elected Governor… It’s certainly not about how effective he’ll be having heard what’s going to be said on the 17th, since he won’t be going back to a Congress that’s going to do anything about immigration reform.
Abuse of franking privileges, abuse of federal and state officials’ time for campaigning purposes… Stay in Washington, D.C. for the dwindling remainder of your time in office, Bob.
I recently had an opportunity to hear the sheriff of an AZ border county speak about the problems he deals with on a daily basis. He described something right out of a modern day pulp fiction western. He started off by saying, “I’m here to make you very angry”.
This guy was 6’3″, silver handlebar moustache, cowboy boots and belt buckle; he didn’t need to use the microphone. What he told us that day, about the federal government’s inability to act on border security made me cringe.
Immigration won’t be an issue this year because the Dems have done a good job of depoliticizing it. The Republicans wished to make it the issue but they failed. CO is a good example of how the Dems won (politically) on immigration.
I respect both parties but place the blame squarely on the Republicans for screwing up on immigration. They had many opportunities to work this out, but failed.
I am angry that Beauprez thinks he can make hay with his town meeting (at the expense of the taxpayers). I’m angrier that the feds haven’t acted on this domestic problem that will not go away. And I’m very angry that the problem won’t be addressed this year, maybe after elections, next year, maybe next summer, when the dead bodies start piling up in the desert again.
