DCCC Robocalls Hitting Tipton's Family Ties

  • by: Colorado Pols

Roll Call, ring ring:

Each robocall is tailored to an ethical dust-up reported in the media, and the Members have all denied wrongdoing. The DCCC, trying to win back the House, presents only its version of the facts in the calls.

Residents of Tipton’s district will be told about a Denver Post report suggesting the Republican spent “thousands of taxpayer dollars on vendors working with a company that employs Tipton’s daughter and is owned by his nephew,” according to a script obtained by Roll Call…

The calls each end with a request that voters call the Members’ district offices to complain. A DCCC spokesman declined to disclose the size of the buy but said the calls will go to households with Republicans, Democrats and nonaffiliated voters, with an emphasis on convincing independents. [Pols emphasis]

Annoying but persistently effective at spreading a message, in this case freshman Rep. Scott Tipton’s recent brush with scandal over funds from his office paid to a company owned by Tipton’s nephew and employing Tipton’s daughter…robocalls can’t be recalled from thousands of voice mail boxes at the behest of a few willing talk radio executives. So there’s that.

And of course robocalls don’t cost much. But it’s worth pointing out, as we have before, that the DCCC typically spends money in the summer of an off-year where they think they can win.

      1. The trouble with most is they go on too long without getting to the point. When they drone on people hang up.   My advice would be to get the point out in the very first words, before even saying “Hi, I’m so and so” or ” this a message from  whatever” (many hang up at that point) so people hear that part before they have a chance to hang up.  After that, a few more words should be absolutely it. And make sure they don’t get sent out accidentally at midnight.

When I phone bank (the living breathing human method) I always ignore the long-winded script in favor of starting out with an attention grabbing point first thing. If people are interested you can give them the rest answering their questions conversationally. If not, you find out quickly and don’t waste your time.

    1. It’s amusing that a frequent robo-call we’ve been getting is an invitation to participate in Tipton’s telephone town hall.

I hang up on those, too.

      1. …trying to ask an actual question at one of those if you’re not on the staff’s “approved” list.

I don’t even get the robocall invitations, probably because we’re a D-U household.  You’re probably getting them because you have an R in your household.

Tipton has thus far shown no inclination to represent ALL of us.

  1. People in CD-3 just heard a few days ago that these allegations are lies and radio stations took them off the air. What good do you possibly think it will do to pester them at home about it?

    Big mistake by desperate hacks.
