    1. Is to substantially shrink the footprint of government and to reduce the progressive structure of our government. We’re well and truly returning to the era of the robber barons.

      I think a significant part of this is the very rich have captured both parties (the Repubs more than the Dems) and with that they are able to frame the debate. As to how they have captured both parties – look at who provides the big bucks for political campaigns.

      1. They’ve dismantled all significant campaign finance reforms that have come before the court in recent years.

        The only light at the end of the tunnel is to keep supporting candidates who turn down the big corporate money, from city council races on up the ladder, and pray to whatever you believe in that eventually some of them get to appoint justices. Maybe by the time my niece has grandkids there’ll be enough progressives on the Court to turn this thing back around. Until then, the middle class is in for it.

  1. What pisses me off is that the Bowles-Simpson Commission did not have a majority of members who approved these recommendations,

    The minority report should be the qualifier that precedes any reference to it.

    there are still no specifics.

    I think that it is necessary to have Congressional approval by Friday in order to get the mechanics underway to be able to raise the debt limit and sell the bonds necessary to raise the money.

    1. For the Bowles-Simpson Commission findings to go automatically to the House, it had to have 14 of 18 votes. It had only 11 of 18 — still an 11-7 majority.

    1. go hungry

      go without medical care

      go without housing

      go without transportation

      go without education (this ensures that the wealthy have a larger group of minimum wage workers)

      Freedom is just another word for nothin’ left to lose.

      1. Free to produce and use the fruits of your labor to your advantage.

        Sorry the items you have listed are so expensive, you can thank inflation and excessive regulaton.

  2. From the Listening Post:

    1) The right wing radio is accusing the

    Progressives of hating Clarence Thomas and using that as a response to any suggestion that the hatred of Obama has a racial component. Note to ellbee;Libertad:….you are not original.

    2) Focusing on the “breast milk baby” and not  discouraging  scatological comments from the audience…although most of what boyles said Tuesday am sounded as it could have been copied from the blogs Monday night. Note to boyles:  Nobody, however, on the blogs referred to watching beauty pageants for little girls…as you did….creepy, boyles…are you trying to win the title of “dirty old man?” Maybe you should check with the doc about cutting back on the hormone shots….

    3) Henry Cain and his comments on Chris Wallace about Islam is not a religion and people have the “right” to prevent mosques in their communities is being championed…used to attack “progressives” as well as Muslins and to reinforce the notion that the First Amendment should be interpreted by individual states, not the federal government. (Note to Justin:  Your BFF Silverman didn’t explain how Sirea law could trump the US Constitution. At least that I heard…are you going to follow up?)

    Standard: Redefining the Constitution as “politically correct.

    Upcoming:  Comparing the federal government to the British government of 1776…..evidently this would justify armed insurrection…..not coming from hosts, yet, but callers do this and are not contradicted.  It may be that some hosts are saying this, but I can’t listen to all of them…doctors’ orders.

          1. Why should your airplane wait in a holding pattern at DIA just because some government bureaucrat air traffic controller is too lazy to clear the runways of all the other planes in time for your arrival?

            Fuck the FCC, Fuck the FAA . . . Freeeeeeeeeeedooom!

            (apologies to Steve Earle and William Wallace).

            1. Planes could all just race to whatever runway is open — could work as well as five cars all trying to get into the same parking spot at an overcrowded parking lot.  And while we’re at it, why do we need so many expensive traffic lights? — just close your eyes, and jam the accelerator to the floor, and get through the intersection before the other guy.

              The bottom line:  We don’t need government at all — we’ll find our own water supplies, build our own roads, and hire our own security guards.  Yup, that’s the kind of place I want to live . . .

        1. if the roads are public why does CDOT maintain them?

          if the roads are public why does CSP police them?

          if the land is public why does BLM and Forest Service manage & maintain them?

          if our air & water is public why should the EPA ever stand between you and some waste- dumping sonofabitch from fucking over everyone downstream?

          RU really anti-govt/anti-establishment or just a basketcase contrarian

  3. Word Salad is a part of what is called the CONFUSION TECHNIQUE in hypnotic application. Milton Erickson first identified and explained this technique. Here’s some of the identification:

    Confusion techniques are based on the following assumptions:

    1. There are many automatic and predictable patterns in a person’s

    behavioral processes, such as the handshake;

    2. Disruption of any of these patterns creates a state of uncertainty

    dominated by undifferentiated arousal (e.g. confusion);

    3. Most people strongly dislike the state of uncertainty, and are

    hence extremely motivated to avoid them;

    4. The arousal will increase unless the person can attribute it to

    something (“this happened because …”);

    5. As uncertainty increases, so does the motivation to reduce it;

    6. The person who is highly uncertain will typically accept the first

    viable way by which the uncertainty can be reduced (e.g. suggestions

    to drop into hypnosis).

    Translation In Bold

    “I have worked out what I love about you and why,

    BECAUSE WHAT I THINK IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN WHAT YOU THINK

    I love what I cannot see, i love that intangible quality you hold,

    HERE COMES MY PROJECTION

    that “thing”

    OBJECT -‘THING’ BEING THE MOST OPERATIVE WORD HERE

    that you are and always have been.

    YOU’VE ALWAYS BEEN A THING TO ME.

    That is what tantalizes me, delights all of my senses and creates a certain emotional admiration of you”

    HERE COMES SOME IDEALISATION…GET READY FOR THE DEVALUATION SOON TO FOLLOW.

    “It explains that when I hold you there is no need for words or conversation, they limit and distort the “Pure You” inside.

    I CAN’T COMMUNICATE.

    “You walk into a room , you are 100%, I walk into the room with you , you look at me and try to tell me how you are feeling but you fail,

    NOTE YOU FAIL..NOT ME…YOU FAIL

    you fail because there is a set of words, a dictionary, you have been taught,

    YOU KNOW HOW TO COMMUNICATE AND I AM JEALOUS OF YOU FOR THAT.

    you cant make up your own words as I wont understand them,

    I REFUSE TO LISTEN.

    everything you say to me will be degraded

    BANG! HERE’S ANOTHER TRUTH.

  4. House Pubs are only digging in deeper.

    Rachel Maddow said it best last night, that we have two halves in Washington.  One half wants to effectively shut down the government, while the other half pretends that a bipartisan agreement is still possible.

    1. Could The Government Debt Ceiling Affect Military Families?

      It is a question that has been lingering around for weeks, since even before the government shutdown worries:  If the federal government reaches the debt ceiling, will it impact military families?  As usual, you can find individual “experts” who will argue any side of the situation, and I am not a specialist in the most detailed workings of the government budget.  However, I can read and research.

      Obviously, the biggest concern for most military families is pay.  Will military members be paid if the government reaches the debt ceiling?  Well, technically, the military should not get paid.

      And it also hit’s Veterans HARD:

      Veterans’ benefits: Retirement benefits for veterans may not be sent out.

      VA hospitals: While emergency rooms at Veterans Administration hospitals would probably remain open, outpatient services would probably be shut down.

      No new or ongoing claims would be processed – including GI Bill requests to go to school this fall.

      http://articles.dailypress.com

      http://themilitarywallet.com/m

      Now, how bad is this going to look on Aug 3rd when a retiree on Social Security, a military family with a spouse deployed in combat, a disabled vet and avet trying to go to school on the GI Bill all get in front of the camera and talk about the hardship caused by Rep Cantor and his collection of Teabaggers by not lifting the debt ceiling?

  5. As most know insanity is the repetition of activities expecting the outcome to change, frankly few if any Obama policies have resulted in anything but failure.

    Be it economic failure or foreign ministry failures, Team Obama has a consistent record. Let’s take the department of Labor and it’s job killing heavy handed union boss thuggery towards Boeing as a cause to the negative approval ratings befalling Team Obama.

    For most of its 75-year history, the National Labor Relations Board has been a low-profile federal agency that the business world, and like-minded Republicans, love to hate: an independent government agency with a mandate to enforce labor laws that put working men and women – bargaining collectively – on the same footing as the corporations that employ them.

    But the traditional hostility toward the board seemed to reach a new level after the NLRB last month accused the world’s largest aerospace company of breaking a law drafted in the days of union goons and company strike-breakers.

    The ruling against the Boeing Corp. outraged the business community, prompted vows from congressional Republicans to take legislative action against a “rogue” agency and threatens to undermine President Barack Obama’s already strained relations with the corporate titans he thinks can help jump-start the economy.

    “This administration has made a wholesale attack on employers to the benefit of organized labor,” said Rick Manning, communications director with Americans for Limited Government, a conservative advocacy group. The apocalyptic language from the right is the rule rather than the exception: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce calls the NLRB an “out of control” agency, and top Republican lawmakers claim it’s doing the White House’s bidding on behalf of unions.

    http://www.politico.com/news/s

    Again, this is just one of many reasons why Team Obama has failed to crack the code. They aren’t really commie bastards who want to destroy America, it’s just that their principles are fundamentally flawed in managing our capitalistic Judeo-Christian nation.

    1. … you know, your post saying it will bring in “trillions” more in revenue, implying, what, $10 trillion or so in economic activity? That was awesome — one of your best bullshits.

    1. So what’s the deal liberal American bloggers … are we going to put ourselves on that austerity program or continue to rely on taxing work, saving and investing?

  6. President’s high disapprovals favor Romney.  13% of Democrats say they will vote for Romney. 8% of Republicans would vote for Obama.   21% of undecideds approve of Obama and 61% disapprove.

    “If you allocate them based on their approval/disapprove of Obama, Romney would lead 52-48.”
