Yesterday, the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) Sen. Rick Scott of Florida Tweeted out his warm congratulations to Maria Weese of Aurora, Colorado, on the occasion of her winning something called the NRSC’s “Champion for Freedom” award:
Maria’s story is a true example of freedom, and it is people like her that make our country so great.
We are grateful for her service and are honored to present her with the @NRSC’s Champion for Freedom award. https://t.co/LPwGMkDG13

What the heck is the NRSC’s “Champion for Freedom” award? El Comercio Colorado is glad you asked:
The National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC) awarded the “Champion of Freedom” recognition to prominent political leader María Weese. “This is an award that she well deserves. María has been a very active person in Colorado politics. She has promoted the ideas that have made this country prosperous, a country which she became a citizen of at age 21. People like Maria make our country so great,” said Senator Rick Scott, president of the NRSC.
Scott was unable to attend the ceremony in person. However, the Florida Senator made the award announcement on a remote broadcast from his office in Washington, DC. During the virtual meeting, Scott explained that María is the sixth person to receive this recognition…
That’s right, only six people in all of human history have ever received the NRSC’s “Champion for Freedom” award–and who are those lucky winners?
Previous winners who have also been declared “Champions of Freedom” include Donald Trump, Miriam Adelson and Sheldon Adelson (Q.E.P.D), Matt Schlapp, and Hugh Hewitt. “All these distinguished Americans, including María, are examples of defenders of a way of life unique to us,” he said.
All we can say is that’s some pretty distinguished right-wing company! Maria Weese must have raised a pile of money for the Republican Party at one time or another to be anywhere in the ballpark with these, love ’em or hate ’em, undeniably A-List Republican luminaries.
All of which becomes…well, curiouser when we recall the last time we heard from Maria Weese all the way back in 2014–when she briefly was in the mix for a seat in the Colorado House of Representatives. Weese’s campaign feelers were scorched early on in the cycle after what can only be described as outrageously racist social media posts attributed to Weese emerged, like this one from December of 2012:
The racial hypocrisy in this country has gotten much worse since Obama was elected President and the heat has really been turned up by the Blacks in this country. [Pols emphasis] Every excuse is being made to create the impression that the Whites in America are still persecuting and suppressing the Blacks in America. Every opportunity to find any slight reason to expose racial discrimination from the Black perspective is being jumped on by Sharpton and Jackson, and of course, our President. It must be an election year and you can see the wagons circling around Obama led by the Blacks, the far left liberalists, the unions, environmental activists, the members of the American communist party, the minorities getting government checks in the mail, the fat cats in the entertainment industry, and the rest of the uninformed and naive liberals in this country…
Don’t even get Weese started about Michelle Obama:
Mandela won an election based on his race Obama won an election based on his race… [Pols emphasis]
Mandela was made famous world wide be media for his Marxist ideology, Obama was made famous world wide for the media hiding his Marxist ideology…
Mandela endured prison Obama endured Michelle.
Sometime after these posts were made public Weese decided not to run for HD-35 after all. Weese was succeeded in the HD-35 race by Westminster’s infamous Michael “Sustainability Scares Me” Melvin, who went on to lose heavily to now-Sen. Faith Winter. As for what Maria Weese has done since then to merit such lofty recognition along with the likes of Donald Trump and Hugh Hewitt? Your guess is as good as ours.
But unless racism is a bonus–and, well, see the list–it’s clear Rick Scott’s not doing much vetting for these awards.

I love how Rick Scott's statement alluded to all the specific María actions that lead to this major award.
Act now, and for 3 easy payments of $ 500,000, you too can become a "Champion of Freedom !" Supplies are limited, so don't wait !
Like the song sez, freedom's just another word for distrusting those shifty black folk.
I'm thinking perhaps somehow she's the one now holding Mesa County's hard drives??? . . .
Curious …
Open Secrets has 14 donations under the name WEESE, MARIA — https://www.opensecrets.org/donor-lookup/results?name=WEESE%2C+MARIA
The only 4 digit donation is
08-24-2004…..$1,000….. MANCHIN III, JOSEPH (JOE)…..West Virginia
Scroll to the bottom though – there's a Maria V. Weese with a WV address who gave $500 to someone else, when Maria C. from Westminster is listed in the line above giving a little cash to our old bear huntin' buddy J. Paul Brown. I suspect the one giving to Manchin is Maria V., not Maria C.
