Dems Call For Gigi Dennis' Resignation

  • by: Colorado Pols

Colorado Democratic Party chair Pat Waak has called on Secretary of State Gigi Dennis to resign. One terse paragraph below the fold.

Playing Politics with Colorado’s Election Process

CDP calls for Secretary of State’s immediate resignation

DENVER Today, Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat Waak issued a statement on behalf of the Colorado Democratic Party calling for the immediate resignation of Secretary of State Gigi Dennis:

“In recent days, Coloradans have learned that the Colorado Secretary of State’s office was approached by attorneys working with the Republican Party and its candidates seeking changes to Colorado elections rules. This has resulted in a blatant manipulation of Colorado election rules to benefit their candidates in direct defiance of legislative will. We therefore call for Gigi Dennis’ immediate resignation. It is unacceptable to exploit a public office for political gain. Colorado citizens deserve to know that the elections process respects the rights of all voters. We feel the Secretary of State’s actions have undermined the integrity of the elections process.”

  1. So, were they working with the Republican Party and the Trailhead Group?

John Zakhem is the lawyer for the Trailhead Group who went to Gigi Dennis to “legislate from the SOS office” just weeks from the election, and she followed the orders handed down from the Trailhead bosses…to win the election at all costs.

    1. We’ve seen it happen famously twice in the last 6 years: Katherine Harris and Ken Blackwell.  These are Secretaries of State.  They should be unknown.  They shold be names we do not keep track of.

Now Gigi.  Not as famous yet, but she’s getting there.

  2. Seriously? When did this story break, and we are now, finally, getting a response from the Dems. And what a short response too. Where was the Sunday op-ed piece? I hope this has legs, but I doubt it.

  3. Why hasn’t he taken the lead on this issue?  He’s the one to replace Gigi, to make sure such tactics are kept out of the SOS office, not allowed to continue (which would happen with Coffman).

    Ken, where are you?

    1. I hope.

His best course of action is to add Gigi Dennis to his list of corrupt Secretaries of State that he uses in his stump speech. And perhaps use Dennis as the lastest example of the “Climate of Corruption” that permeates the GOP elected officials these days.

I am not sure what Pat Waak is trying to accomplish by calling for Dennis’s resignation. The only thing I can figure is she is counting on Dennis ignoring her.

But what happens if Gigi Dennis does resign early? Owens gets to appoint her replacement, that’s what. Does anyone here really think he wouldn’t appoint Coffman?

That would nearly kill Gordon’s chance of winning the seat if Coffman gets all of that publicity from the appointment. Gordon can’t afford THAT much television.
