According to the terms of use,
“Framing, in-line linking (emphasis mine) or other methods of association with the Forums or Website are expressly prohibited without prior written approval from CP.”
So David should have provided an explicit link.
And you should know better.
I read that as a prohibition on using in-line linking to create a presumed association between CoPols and another website–like in-line linking the Pols logo on some other site.
You may be right that they don’t want any in-line linking ON Pols. That’s perfectly sensible since it steals other sites’ bandwidth and gives the other site control over the image as posted on Pols. If your interpretation is the correct one, I’m guilty of the same thing and won’t do it again.
(However, causing the image to link to the source is not in-line linking; that image does happen to be linked in-line, but one could do so with an image rehosted to a free host like imgur, too.)
What method of image posting does Pols tend to prefer–if they’ve said anything one way or the other? Would they really rather we didn’t embed images not of our own creation at all, or do they want them rehosted on an image hosting site?

How about framing? I have no idea what these things are, but it seems logical they don’t want people to spam the blog with links to their own sites just to build their own SEO ranking. Pols, can you clarify?
In-line linking and framing are things you do on other sites using Pols web pages, not things Pols says you can’t do here. (Soapblox won’t let you do framing, and in-line linking such as embedding images or video from other sites is pretty much a necessary thing on a site that doesn’t do its own image hosting…)
Framing is an HTML technique that allows you to place a web page – possibly from another site such as Pols – within another web page. Most often if a frame points to another web site, it is because someone wants the SEO ranking.
By in-line linking I think Pols has traditionally meant that you can’t include the Big Line graphic on your own page (or Pols banner images, or anything else that would falsely badge your site with the CP name).
Then the Friday music video diary (which Pols creates) violates the terms of use. I read that as you can’t do inline linking on other websites of Pols content. But it could be read the way you are interpreting it.
If Pols tells me to not do it, I’m happy to stop. But I’ve done it this way for years here as I think it’s the most sensible approach and have never been asked to stop by the Govs.
It’s also the only way to display an image here as Pols does not allow you to upload an image to this site.

They just learn to create their own reality and until Dems get better at exposing the naked Emperor, we’re kind of stuck in their reality as far as the common “wisdom” is concerned.
