        1. According to the terms of use,

“Framing, in-line linking (emphasis mine) or other methods of association with the Forums or Website are expressly prohibited without prior written approval from CP.”

So David should have provided an explicit link.

          And you should know better.

          1. I read that as a prohibition on using in-line linking to create a presumed association between CoPols and another website–like in-line linking the Pols logo on some other site.

You may be right that they don’t want any in-line linking ON Pols. That’s perfectly sensible since it steals other sites’ bandwidth and gives the other site control over the image as posted on Pols. If your interpretation is the correct one, I’m guilty of the same thing and won’t do it again.

(However, causing the image to link to the source is not in-line linking; that image does happen to be linked in-line, but one could do so with an image rehosted to a free host like imgur, too.)

What method of image posting does Pols tend to prefer–if they’ve said anything one way or the other? Would they really rather we didn’t embed images not of our own creation at all, or do they want them rehosted on an image hosting site?

            1. Thanks.

How about framing? I have no idea what these things are, but it seems logical they don’t want people to spam the blog with links to their own sites just to build their own SEO ranking. Pols, can you clarify?

              1. In-line linking and framing are things you do on other sites using Pols web pages, not things Pols says you can’t do here.  (Soapblox won’t let you do framing, and in-line linking such as embedding images or video from other sites is pretty much a necessary thing on a site that doesn’t do its own image hosting…)

Framing is an HTML technique that allows you to place a web page – possibly from another site such as Pols – within another web page.  Most often if a frame points to another web site, it is because someone wants the SEO ranking.

By in-line linking I think Pols has traditionally meant that you can’t include the Big Line graphic on your own page (or Pols banner images, or anything else that would falsely badge your site with the CP name).

          2. Then the Friday music video diary (which Pols creates) violates the terms of use. I read that as you can’t do inline linking on other websites of Pols content. But it could be read the way you are interpreting it.

If Pols tells me to not do it, I’m happy to stop. But I’ve done it this way for years here as I think it’s the most sensible approach and have never been asked to stop by the Govs.

It’s also the only way to display an image here as Pols does not allow you to upload an image to this site.

  1. Explaining why police broke up Occupy Atlanta, Mayor Kasim Reed (quoted in the NYT, http://thelede.blogs.nytimes.c… ):

“I made the decision that this protest was not being conducted in a manner that was consistent with the history of Atlanta’s protests. Candidly, these individuals were moving toward a more significant event to attract more and more attention. They had misread my desire to give voice to the frustration of people, some of whom have very legitimate concerns, and believed that we would allow lawlessness and anything to happen.”

Allow anything to happen??? Are you kidding? The police? Of course not! That’s what they’re there for, isn’t it? Maintaining Lawn Order! “No camping, talking, walking, crawling, sleeping, littering, shouting… Not unless it’s consistent with the history of Atlanta (civil war, civil rights, and the Bill of Rights notwithstanding)!” Well, isn’t it?

C’mon out West, y’all, and see how they do it at High Attitude.

  2.  this is a short blurb from the Yahoo. com site.

Pentecostal televangelist and “700 Club” host Pat Robertson has some advice for the Republican presidential candidates: Stop pandering to the far right, or lose in 2012.

On his television program Monday night, Robertson, a Christian conservative who obviously has a pragmatic streak, warned that conservative GOP voters were pushing the primary candidates into taking positions on issues that could haunt the party’s presidential nominee as he or she seeks to woo the more general–and more moderate–American electorate in 2012.

“Those people in the Republican primary have got to lay off of this stuff. They’re forcing their leaders, the front-runners, into positions that will mean they lose the general election,” Robertson said. “You appeal to the narrow base and they applaud the daylights out of what you’re saying, and then you hit the general election and they’ll say no way.”

“They’ve got to stop this! It’s just so counterproductive,” he added. “Well, if they want to lose, this is the game for losers.”

    The words of a prophet.

          1. Yes we are. Been there.  Done that. And lets remember the source when Robertson thinks the candidates should dial it back. Jon Stewart has some pretty funny reminders of what the Patster doesn’t think is extreme. Sorry.  I’m being blocked from embedding for some reason but easy to view it here:

        1. plus, MADCO was slow on the uptake.

I was touched (in a non-blue-dress way) by President & Mrs. Clinton. Very different impression than just being in the same room as Pres. Obama.

          1. Not as close but I was in the room when he spoke at DNC–totally different vibe, I agree. He’s amazing, but Obama just knocks you flat with sheer charisma.

  3. FOX News “reporter” Shira Bush pens the most anonymously sourced article not about secret government conspiracies ever written.

EXCLUSIVE: ACORN Playing Behind Scenes Role In ‘Occupy’ Movement.

Well, not ACORN exactly… More like a successor organization.  The claims are pretty wild, but without a single named source to provide any meat to them, they’re laughable, especially since they match so closely to almost every proven fraud and misrepresentation stemming from some Tea Party activities.

  4. Obama’s White House approved 613 federal rules during the first 33 months of his term, 4.7 percent fewer than the 643 cleared by President George W. Bush’s administration in the same time frame, according to an Office of Management and Budget statistical database reviewed by Bloomberg. […]

In the last 12 months through the end of September, the cost range of new regulations is estimated to be $8 billion to $9 billion, a decrease from 2010, according to non-partisan Government Accountability Office reports analyzed by Bloomberg…The record [cost of regulations] came in 1992 under George H.W. Bush when that total hit $20.9 billion in current dollars. In the last year of Ronald Reagan’s term it was $16 billion in today’s dollars.

We certainly don’t remember Republicans crying about the “excessive” Bush regulations.

    1. but you know what Rove said.  They pay no mind to the reality based world.  They just learn to create their own reality and until Dems get better at exposing the naked Emperor, we’re kind of stuck in their reality as far as the common “wisdom” is concerned. At least we’re having the pleasure of seeing Rove so perturbed by the anti-reality machine he was so instrumental in creating now that it’s not under his control.
