The latest Gallup tracking poll of Republican voters finds Santorum leading Mitt Romney by eight points.
Over the weekend, Santorum attacked President Obama, and the Obama reelection campaign hit back.
For months, it’s focused its fire on Mitt Romney — believing he will be the Republican nominee. But over the weekend, for the first time, the Obama campaign took direct aim at the new front-runner, Rick Santorum — hitting him hard for something he didn’t really even say…
“It’s not about you,’ Santorum declared.”It’s not about your quality of life. It’s not about your jobs. It’s about some phony ideal. Some phony theology. Oh, not a theology based on the Bible — a different theology.” [Pols emphasis]
To be fair, Rick Santorum said on Sunday that he believes “the president is a Christian,” which means the “different theology” Santorum was talking about is…well, it’s apparently still Christian. But then you have to figure out why that doesn’t make any sense at all!
The thing about “blowing the dog whistle” is that only the target audience who responds to your otherwise distasteful message is supposed to hear it. And that’s a problem with the 24 hour news cycle that no Republican presidential candidate this year seems to be able to resolve. While the small primary target hears it, so does everybody else–and more are repulsed than won over.
At the very least, be like Ron Paul and keep this stuff to plausibly deniable newsletters.

What’s the “other theology?” He could kill two birds with one stone if it was Mormonism.
He considers protestants to be “gone from the world of Christianity” so it’s entirely possible he wasn’t alluding to Islam at all.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/…
If he meant protestantism – he should have said that.
You can bet your ass that Santorum was telling all those evangelical Protestants he claims as supporters that their’s is a “phony theology”??? Quick, someone call Dobson, his chosen one has gone off the reservation . . .
This guy REALLY pisses me the hell off! When every thing you say and every position you take is based off of what you heard in church on Sunday then you fucking know what you’re talking about when you say “a different theology”.
And if you can’t talk without misusing Christian buzzwords than you don’t fucking belong in the White House. You belong hidden away in a fundamental church where your world, and your influence, can be small.
In 1939, apparently people thought Hitler was a “Nice guy” which is why it took us 2 years to get in to WWII.
WTF.
And escaping refugees. That is if most Americans really did think Hitler was a nice guy between 1939 and our 1941 entry into the war. Santorum might want to fact check that. Just not with Politifact. It would probably grade it “mainly true” on the strength of some tiny percentage combined a Republican having said it.
making all this shit up?
Is this a dream? …?…
I cannot believe that a man as batshit crazy as Rick Santorum is even on TV, much less a fucking conservative rock star.
I need a drink.
This is the new face of the Republican party.
I think he’s attempting to portray Obama as a Gaia-loving Tree Hugger who believes in Global Warming — a belief that Republican politicians like to portray as a “theology” rather than science.
