Danielle Neuschwanger Will Not Go Quietly Into That Good Night

GOP candidate for governor Danielle Neuschwanger (R).

As Colorado Newsline reports, Republican gubernatorial candidate Danielle Neuschwanger, who very narrowly missed a spot on the June 28th Republican primary ballot in voting at the Republican Party state assembly last weekend, is vowing to fight results she insists are fraudulent by any means necessary metaphorical and…well, physical:

Neuschwanger, a 34-year-old Colorado native and small business owner, was viewed as a top Republican governor candidate going into the assembly, which took place at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs. But she failed to secure at least 30% of the delegate support, knocking her out of contention…

“(Delegates) attempted to tell you that the system was fraudulent, and you negated their voice when they attempted to bring it to you,” Neuschwanger said to Burton Brown, as captured on a video that Neuschwanger posted to social media. Neuschwanger was standing with supporters at the foot of the arena stage while Burton Brown knelt at the edge of the stage. “I am going to see you in court, and I’m going to make sure, if you committed any fraud that you are behind bars.” [Pols emphasis]

Carly Koppes, the Republican Weld County clerk and recorder, was at the assembly and witnessed some of the interaction. At one point she heard Neuschwanger supporters make physical threats. One man said to Burton Brown, “I’m going to rip you off that stage,” Koppes said…

In the video Neuschwanger posted, a supporter of hers is heard to say to a Burton Brown colleague on the stage, “Don’t stick your hand in front of my face or I’ll throw your ass f***ing out.”

As we noted yesterday, KBB herself says that this conflict was between Neuschwanger’s husband and KBB’s very own father.

Anyway, 9NEWS’ Marshall Zelinger reports that Neuschwanger has video evidence she claims backs up her contentions that voting equipment used at the state assembly was “malfunctioning” in some way:

Neuschwanger told 9NEWS that delegates were having issues using the electronic clickers that were used to count votes.

After the vote, she confronted Colorado Republican Party chairwoman Kristi Burton Brown over the possibility that votes for her were never counted…

Video sent to 9NEWS…by a Douglas County delegate show attempts to vote with the electronic clicker. One video is supposedly of the secretary of state’s race and shows someone trying to vote for the first candidate, but the device never said the word “counted.” The second video is supposedly of the senate race and shows someone trying to vote for the first candidate, before the device ultimately showed the word “counted.”

Republicans inclined to defend the party from Neuschwanger’s allegations need to tread carefully, as Zelinger reports, since Republicans are in the middle of a court fight right now seeking to flip the results of the HD-21 Republican assembly so that a convicted felon isn’t the only Republican on the ballot in what should have been a safe district.

As we’ve learned from the highly improbable conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election that are nonetheless believed as gospel truth by a majority of Republicans, the evidentiary bar to attract a sizable following to one’s cause in these causes is very, very low. That’s a nice way of saying that even if Danielle Neuschwanger’s claims of fraud in the state assembly electronic voting system are complete nonsense, a whole lot of Republicans are primed to believe them without question.

After Donald Trump’s failed attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election by any means necessary including just plain having a coup, we’ve been waiting to see what the effect of broadly and baselessly undermining confidence in the election system in that case would mean for Republican campaigns at every level in 2022.

The answer? Chaos. Trump sowed the seeds of chaos that Republicans will reap for years.
