Democrats Press Gardner Fundraising Junket Questions

  • by: Colorado Pols

CBS4 Denver follows up on their national parent’s weekend exposé:

One day after CBS News aired a report about Colorado Rep. Cory Gardner co-hosting a high-priced fundraiser, Gardner gave the Republican response to the president’s weekly address.

The CBS News report showed Gardner at an upscale Florida resort where lobbyists and donors were charged $10,000 for access to him and 11 other freshman Republicans…

Democrats claim Gardner received more than $177,000 in campaign cash from the oil and gas industry last year. And while Gardner attacked the president on his energy policies, Democrats want to know who the donors were who paid the price to meet the congressman.

“I think the people of Colorado would like to know how many oil and gas lobbyists were at this $10,000 per person even[t] in Florida,” Democratic Party Chairman Rick Palacio said.

Since taking office, Rep. Cory Gardner has probably spent more time on oil and gas drilling than any other issue. Since his response to the President’s weekly radio address essentially amounted to accusations about gas prices, a representative of Koch Industries or BP in attendance at Gardner’s $10,000-a-head happy hour would be, you know, extra politically juicy. But even if the Koch Brothers didn’t come to Gardner’s favored freshman Florida junket itself, they probably don’t have trouble getting on his calendar any time they need.

The push back, to the extent Republicans feel it’s better to push back than simply ignore this story, seems to be that Democrats have fundraisers too–and of course they do.

But this story, with hidden cameras, ten thousand-dollar happy hours with members of Congress as celebrity bartenders, and yachts named “The Good Life,” is about Republicans.

The fodder for campaign ads is what it is.

      1. go back and read his stump speeches. It was all about being responsible to the fine folks of CD-4, making sure his free time was spent back in his district w/ the wife & 2 kids (so they wouldn’t forget their daddy), it was about how “DC corrupts” and how Markey forgot how to listen the people of CD-4.  He ginned up a bunch of crap against Markey but now  how is it different with Cory?

Cory rolls out his “One More Job” initiative citing “…bleak unemployment numbers and the stock market in turmoil.”  WTF? Is he  looking at the same numbers I see & hear everyday?  Or does he figure the fine folks in Cd-4 are just too dumb to pay attention?

What does it take for Shaffer to get off his ass and attack this dipshit O&G piglet?

          1. Gardner was, at one time, a member of a threesome that included Frank McNulty and  Josh Penry. They liked to imagine themselves as “young lions”, but we called them other things (decorum prevents me from being more specific).

McNulty is, of course, rewriting the book on how to fuck up the Speakers’ job, after Penry lowered the bar. Penry then went on to show us how to screw up an entire career AND destroy his marriage in less than two years. Josh now enlightens the world as a  columnist in a small, insignificant newspaper.

Gardner has truly outpaced his two buddies and now I am sure spends his time mostly engaging in the acquisition of fame and power. Cory does, in fact, consider himself to be one of “the smartest guys in the room”. Certainly much smarter than you or I.

Oh…and his comfortable berth in the asshole of the Oil and Gas industry is nothing new. He has been getting his marching orders from Ken Wonstolen and Stan Dempsey for a LONG time.

            1. And recently wrote a little ‘report’ for the American Petroleum Institute.  That report ‘found’ that everything would be right in the world except for the dastardly Democrats thwarting our oily prosperous future as the world’s energy colony.  Shocking scholarship.   A Josh Penry/EIS Solutions production bought for by BIG Oil–Who saw that conclusion coming?

  1. I hope Democrats spend as much time as you can attacking Gardner. Lamborn too. Because the more you fruitlessly attack Gardner, the less time you will have to attack Coffman, Tipton, and Coors: races you could maybe actually win.

Practically speaking, Gardner isn’t worth your time, but I’d never stop Democrats from wasting their time.

    1. but his level of uselessness and shitbaggery lately is just too freaking amazing to pass over, so whats the harm in taking a peek at the nonsense ?  He’s practically in Lamborn territory now.

    2. after his name and it was movie stars instead of oilmen, Arap.  Don’t worry about little ol’ us, though.  We have time to attack all of your candidates. And it’s fun. And they’re such pricks, it’s so easy.  The war on women, for instance, is really going nicely…. for Dems, that is.

Not a week goes by without some GOP majority legislature coming up with some new bit of insulting, punitive, women-are-immoral-idiots-who-need-to-be-controlled-by-the-state type legislation. Also more attacks on medicare and medicaid with a kind of destroying the village to save it flavor. Lots of legislation to “solve” the non-problem of fraudulent voting with a neo-poll tax, anti- new citizens from the wrong countries flavor. Nothing on the jobs, jobs, jobs front yet.  We won’t hold our breath.

Tell your GOP guys and gals to just keep on keepin’ on.  They’re doing a wonderful job. From the tippy top, Mittens and Frothy, right on down.

    3. I don’t know if Gardner is safe. There is a small yet growing group of us who follow him around and yell “RINO” at his meetings. He no likey us.

  2. Is our system requires candidates from both parties to spend half their time raising money. I doubt any of them, Cory included, like having to go spend time sucking up to get money.

With that said, it’s a fair opportunity to hit him politically and so Brandon Shaffer should make maximum use of this.

    1. $28,000-35,000 per person cocktail parties and photo ops with the President to fill his coffers and those of his SuperePACs.

That $1T in ARRA corrupt stimulus is going to pay some serious dividends.

Imagine a company — say Aboundar — it should be easy for them to kickin a couple a hundred grand or heck, $1M to Obamas Super PAC.

Now tell me, just how much do you really love Citizens United?

Imagine the saving that some Union got by getting an Obamacare waiv from Obama himself.

        1. when I was in the Keys last fall I couldn’t locate a single Colorado Representative — WTF?  I’ll sleep much better now that I’m out in CD4, and out of CD6, knowing that if I do head back this year and feel the hankering to drop a few thousand in behalf of O&G, we’ll have someone there to accept my donation.

Thanks Cory, and than you O&G(OPers)!
