Boebert, Gaetz, Trump Unite In Casper Against Liz Cheney

  • by: Colorado Pols

UPDATE: Not to be outdone, CD-8 Republican candidate Lori Saine takes her own swipes at Rep. Liz Cheney ahead of this weekend’s rally. Perhaps we’ll see Saine in Casper Saturday?

No RINO represents the DC Swamp like Liz Cheney; she voted to impeach President Trump just last year.

Which is why it’s troubling that at a debate over the weekend, ALL THREE of my opponents pledged to defend Liz Cheney were they in Congress.

Not me. I’m not a Liz Cheney Republican and never will be…

Do we want to be the party of Liz Cheney and Paul Ryan or do we want to be a party that holds Joe Biden accountable and fights for Americans First?

—–

Reps. Lauren Boebert, Matt Gaetz (R).

The Casper Star-Tribune’s Ellen Gerst reports from our windswept neighbor to the north:

Former President Donald Trump will be joined by Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert, two of his most fervent supporters in Congress, at a rally in Casper on Saturday.

The rally is expected to draw around 10,000 people to Casper’s Ford Wyoming Center, venue manager Brad Murphy estimated.

The former president is appearing in Wyoming in support of Harriet Hageman, a land attorney he endorsed to challenge Rep. Liz Cheney in this fall’s Republican primary for the state’s lone House seat…

Saturday’s rally will be Trump’s first political visit to Wyoming, the state with the highest per-capita support for him in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. He will be accompanied by his son, Donald Trump Jr.

Quite the payback to Rep. Liz Cheney from Rep. Lauren Boebert after Cheney threw a well-heeled fundraiser for Boebert during the 2020 general election campaign–which feels like ages ago even though it was less than two years.

Obviously, a lot has happened since then.

Casper is a pretty good drive from voters in Lauren Boebert’s district, but it would be stranger for Boebert if she didn’t show up–despite the questions it raises about Boebert’s relationship with embattled Rep. Matt Gaetz, “MyPillow Guy” Mike Lindell, and other controversial figures reliably in attendance at Trump rallies.

It’s not like Boebert answers questions anyway.

  1. I'm rarely surprised anymore (shocked, heartbroken, outraged still possible), but to see a Cheney being considered not right-wing enough just blows my whatever-addled mind.

    1. Texas Republicans voted for an AG with an indictment and FBI investigation over George P. Bush.

Cheney not going to win and Trump is going to be Speaker.

  2. What? They're not bringing Madison Cawthorn and his cousin?

They are all going to Wyoming. Where the men are men and the sheep are nervous.

  3. The TetonGOP.com site still says

President Trump’s Save America Rally in Casper, Wyoming

    • 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM

President Trump is coming to Wyoming!

The event starts at 4:00 PM, but doors open at 11:00 AM.

You must register for tickets here: bit.ly/3MORnEr. Please note, many of the confirmation emails have been going to spam/junk folders, so make sure to check ALL your folders after you register. We’re sure this is just a coincidence…

Apparently, the county party doesn’t understand how email works.

On the 23rd, the estimate in the Cowboy State Daily was 20,000 people, with Trump speaking outside at 7 pm.  On the 26th, the same paper wrote “Trump will speak from inside the arena, which has a capacity of 9,700.”  The facility manager “said he did not know why a change was made.” And there’s been a few other changes “People will be able to park at the event at 6 a.m. and get in line for admission at that time. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and at that point “Entertainment” will begin, according to the rally website. Pre-program speakers will begin at 1 p.m. and Trump will speak at 4 p.m.”

And while trying to figure out “the” plan, I also stumbled across an article — Cheney Billboards Welcome Attendees to Casper Trump Rally.  Who knew the Cheney campaign had such a sense of humor about the situation?

    1. Paul Ryan was pursuing his own agenda rather than fully backing the 40 or so members of the Freedom Caucus.  And then he didn't fully back Trump's initiatives.  And even worse "Ryan expressed support for strong sanctions on Russia in response to Russian interference in the 2016 elections and its annexation of the Crimea."

      Assessment when he left Congress:

an article in The Washington Post stated that Ryan was "leav[ing] behind a legacy of dramatically expanded government spending and immense deficits, a GOP president unchecked, a broken immigration system, and a party that's fast abandoning the free-trade principles that he himself championed."[117] According to the Associated Press, Ryan "achieved one of his career goals: rewriting the tax code"; however, "on his other defining aim — balancing the budget and cutting back benefit programs like Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid — Ryan has utterly failed"

So, Ryan's tenure provided something for EVERY good RWNJ to object to.

  4. It's not looking good for Liz …

As Cheney files for reelection, poll from rival group shows her trailing badly (msn.com)

I doubt she's able to win the primary. There were people who didn't like her back when she was looking at running a primary against Mike Enzi in 2014. They thought she had a sense of entitlement and resented the fact that she lived in Virginia.

I cannot believe that I am saying this, but I do feel a little sorry for her. She does the right thing – perhaps for the first time in her political career – and gets blowback. Does she adjust her position? No, she doubles down on doing the right thing and gets more blowback. Even though I disagree with her on about 95% of public policy issues, I have to admire her courage.

Come January, I predict there will be no anti-Trump House members. Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, Ben Sasse, and Bill Cassidy will be the only ones in the Senate with backbones on the GOP side.

    1. Considering the number of elections won by someone named "Cheney" and the elections won by someone named Hageman OR Trump … I think there is some room for doubt.  Hageman has one previous race, a primary for Governor, and came in 3rd, with about 25,000 votes.

Poll was taken May 24-25, for a primary ending on August 16.  "The sample was selected from the Wyoming voter file and stratified by geography, age, gender, and vote history to ensure a representative sample of the likely primary electorate. The survey has a margin of error of +4.9% at the 95% confidence level"

Wyoming allows voters to register in a party at any point, then vote.  I'm thinking there is NOTHING that would give me much confidence about who is a "likely" voter for this very, VERY unusual primary election.

If Trump is able to pull a full house at his rally tomorrow, I'll reconsider.

      1. The venue for Trump’s “Save America” rally holds 20,000, which is how many the Trump organization expects. The venue staff expect about 10,000. The rally will be competing with high school graduations, a soccer tournament, and a classic car show.

Boebert and Gaetz will speak at the rally.

        1. The 20,000 is the outside area of the facility.

Inside, the manager said capacity is "officially" 9,700 — and several media sites reported it was well filled when Trump eventually was introduced and spoke at 4:40pm.  Wyoming papers had a fair number of photos of the people coming … including some who "haven't missed a Trump rally this year" — a whole 'nother take on dead heads.

I heard some of the Trump endorsed candidate's speech.  Seemed a bit short on the notion of how the House works … she thinks she'll be able to fight the Department of Agriculture, the EPA, the Interior Department, and a bunch of other elements of the federal government that keep the good people of Wyoming from doing what they oughta be able to do.

When I took Civics back in the 9th grade, it was pretty clear that first term Representatives didn't make too many changes happen.  Don't think things have changed all that much.
