Here’s a discrepancy that could have an easy or more complicated explanation. On the campaign website for incumbent Rep. Scott Tipton of CD-3, here’s what it says:
Scott Tipton, a lifelong Coloradan, [Pols emphasis] was raised in Cortez, CO where he attended public schools with his brother Joe and graduated from Cortez High School. He went onto Ft. Lewis College in Durango where he studied Political Science and became the first person in his family to graduate from college…
His official congressional biography is unambiguous:
Congressman Scott Tipton was born and raised in Cortez, Colorado.
The problem seems to be that this statement, well, it’s wrong. According to his 2006 congressional candidate questionnaire–the first bid for the seat he holds, which he lost–in the Denver paper, Scott Tipton was actually born in Española, New Mexico, not Cortez, Colorado. Tipton’s (presumably) correct birthplace is reported by the National Journal in their subscribers-only 2012 candidate almanac (cached view here), as well as Wikipedia.
We don’t want to assert that Tipton is intentionally lying here, though it’s interesting to note that the two websites Tipton has direct control over, his campaign and official House sites, present misleading and false, respectively, versions of Tipton’s biography. According to these other sources, Tipton moved to Cortez from New Mexico with his family when he was still very young–the Denver paper says one year, National Journal says three months.
But as convenient as it may be to abridge that to “born and raised in Cortez,” it needs to be true.

Has anyone checked vital records in Hawaii for the original birth certificate?
There should be an extra prize for earning five chihuahuas on his own biography.

Not Ralphie’s noble mutt cute, but cuuuute.
And so do I.
Skip knows he’s the cutest dog in the world. And also the most unusual, which keeps his ego in line.
These Republicans can’t even get THEIR OWN BIRTHPLACES CORRECT! No wonder they can’t getPresident Obama’s correct.
Somebody call the Tea Party.
I expected you to say there are two Salvatore Paces. The one from Espanola doesn’t pee in public?
Come on, sore losers, it’s a typo. Keep it real!
a la Princess Bride, I don’t think typo means what you think.

Why were his parents there?
Where are they now?
Are they now, or have they ever been, married to another person? a citizen of another country? Members of the Communist party? Draft dodgers ?
Speaking of which Rep Tipton was 18 in 1974. Which branch of the military did he do his service in Viet Nam?
Oh, Pancho! He’d better support the DREAM Act.
Try again, A-hole.
It’s called “lying.”
I hate asking this question to my 8 year old. Asking an adult this question just hurts my brain. Why are you lying about this, Tipton?
“Raised in Cortez” works.
“Born in Espanola, New Mexico. Tipton moved to Cortez, Colorado at a very young age.” works.
I am baffled by the sheer stupidity it takes to lie like this.
to do with that TP/GOP thing you find in pharentheses after his name.
Is where you start the drive up the hill into Los Alamos, which is pretty much hidden from the outside world by virtue of being in located in the Valles Caldera.
It also bills itself as the “Lowrider Capital of the World.“
If he’s sad about it, just leave the “born” out of it. The first bio, by itself, even seems OK to me. (Adding the outright lie kind of paints it differently.) I suppose “lifelong”, like “lifetime”, is completely relative. He didn’t say who’s life he’s measuring by.
