Miklosi, Pace Thank "Compass Colorado" For Raising Name ID

  • by: Colorado Pols

Here’s a new billboard announced by conservative group Compass Colorado, one of 28 going up around the state targeting President Barack Obama and three Colorado congressional candidates: state Reps. Joe Miklosi and Sal Pace, and Congressman Ed Perlmutter.

For starters, there are some fairly obvious problems with the attempt in this billboard to tie Democrats to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, probably first among them the fact that the United States doesn’t purchase oil from Iran. But most people who see this billboard won’t have the first clue who Mahmoud Ahmadinejad even is, and among those who do, most of them will know this association is highly dubious at best.

Our problem is simpler: what the hell is Compass Colorado doing giving Miklosi a free name ID boost? Putting the virtually unknown Miklosi’s name on a billboard next to President Obama will do more to raise Miklosi’s name recognition, something Miklosi desperately needs and probably expects to spend a lot of money on, than it will hurt. Once you realize how few people are going to recognize the man on the right, and find it silly if they do…this billboard helps Miklosi.

It probably helps all three of them, but Miklosi needs it most.

  1. Miklosi is virtually unknown? He may be the underdog, but you’ve been writing him off since day one.

But we do agree the billboard helps Miklosi. If you’re going to run a negative ad and use your opponents mug shot, you pick a shot of them scowling or frowning, not a cheery smiling pic lifted from their campaign graphics.

Free name boost and a great picture – what more could Joe ask for?

    1. But it’s not just Miklosi. Most people can’t identify their current member of Congress, let alone a state representative running for Congress in an area that has little crossover from his legislative seat. That’s not a knock on Miklosi — that’s just the way it is.

    1. I’m still waiting for your carefully-crafted bullshit answer from the Romneybots on veteran and military issues.

Y’know, the one that the Etch-a-sketch candidate hasn’t made up his mind on….like many others.

    2. Because drilling for more gas when prices are in the tank so we can ship it off to the Chi Comms makes such sense…

Or you mean oil?  Because Obama cannot speed up time and push us into the future when we can burn rocks in our car, and is thus thwarting oil shale due to the fact that no one has proven the technology to make it feasible on the hundreds of thousands of oil shale lands already in industry control…

Or, I know the Keystone!  Yes, that must be it.

And what does your candidate think about forcibly seizing private property from US citizens to benefit a foreign-owned company?

      1. “And what does your candidate think about forcibly seizing private property from US citizens to benefit a foreign-owned company?”

It is appropriate to note that much of the property identified for seizure is farmed by conservative Republicans in Nebraska. Perhaps its time for those farmers to rethink their party affiliations.

    3. Let’s put it this way:  Could you use your insider’s influence and see if you can convince Compass Colorado to, say, make it an even 50 signs?  😉

  2. OK, linking some candidate you are opposing to the leader of the opposition party, especially if you think that leader might be unpopular, is a standard tactic in this business.

But Ahmadinejad?  For god’s shake, that’s not quite dropping the nazi metaphor but it’s close, given what popular perceptions of Iran are.  (At the same time it only encourages whatever xenophobic perceptions of Iran anyone already has.)

Everything about this billboard is a reason not to trust the party running it with any position of public leadership and responsibility.

If this hysterical folderol is the best TQ Houlton and crew have, Miklosi will be OK.  Looks like that compass isn’t pointing straight…

  3. Whether you’re a righty farmer passing through Punkin Center or rancher whizzing past Mack, you’ve already noticed that gas prices are lower and you’ve heard they’re trending downward through the rest of the year. This actually looks like a Compass yearning for a return to higher prices. (“Yes!”) This is a headshaker.

    1. Also higher unemployment, lower stock market and, in general, lots of pain and suffering. Rs have made clear they’re hoping for the worst because they believe that will help them politically.

By the by, has ArapG weighed in on the whole McNulty civil unions fiasco yet? And does he really believe that a silly billboard like this changes a single mind?

It might have been a little bit effective as an appeal to low info voters (the vast majority of all voters) in the middle if they had resisted sending it into the realm of absurdity with the Ahmadinejad comparison. Birthers and ditto heads will eat it up. So what? Others, who might have gone throught the entire election without ever knowing Miklosi existed (and Colpols is right about the  majority not being able to tell you there own congress person’s name. Try canvassing some time) will be seeing the name and face of Miklosi for the first time.

  4. Curious if you have reconsidered Joe Miklosi’s standing after Red To Blue. Right now, they’re planning at least one event with Andrew Romanoff, which should fire up his base some, too. I know I am biased, but I see his campaign building.
