Mail Call!

  • by: Colorado Pols

It’s been an embarrassingly-long time since our last mailbag, so it’s time to put out the call once again.

Ask your questions of Colorado Pols either in the comments section below or at askalva@coloradopols.com We’ll give it a few days to collect questions, and then we’ll answer as many as we can in a later post. Ask us anything about politics in Colorado or nationally — hell, ask us anything about anything.

So, have at it…

  1. Why does Pols hate R’s?

The Big Line:  Are you out of your mind?

Why are some posters such a-holes?

if you had a picture of a unicorn – a real one – would you post it or just give it to Tim Gill?

Aren’t you all just one guy anyway?

How come some posters get paid more than others?

How come some people read the word “sandwich” and  yet still put an “m” in there?   Likewise nuke-u-ler.  Fustrated – which has two R;s.

Why don’t you just  admit you are socialist subversives who hate the USA? (ie, the greatest country in the world of all time ever, that is also totally screwed and  going to hell )

Just tell us – who signs the CoPols staff checks?

        1. The first thing they said was, “Since there’s no way to get any information about what’s happening in Europe except by pony express, and the ponies keep drowning, why can’t we read about it on a Colorado politics blog? Twice?”

          FRONTPAGE THIS DIARY NOW POLS!

  2. Why doesn’t the Big Line include Colorado’s presidential vote? Isn’t that a more interesting question than how badly Brandon Shaffer will lose?

Do you ever miss the days before Polsters had permanent screen names?

Can you put sxp in the Penalty Box more often, since we could use the laughs?

Why are so many Denver Pols posts about Aurora politics?

Do you think Colorado Pols will still be around in three or four years, or is social media taking over the need for conversations and news dissemination that Pols has filled?

  3. Do you approve of organizations posting their news and events here, not just individuals posting op-ed and news commentary style blogs?

Can I PLEASE have a comment delete button now so I don’t have to stare at real estate spam until Guvs show up? Or a “hide comment” button and you guys have the permadelete?

How much would would Chuck Norris chuck if a Norris could chuck wood, and would it be more than the wood Cory Booker would chuck while saving a family from a house fire?

Why did you put a user-generated content disclaimer on ArapaGOP’s promoted diary when you don’t put that disclaimer on most promoted diaries?

    What’s your favorite breakfast food?

What is the atomic weight of popcorn?

Do you do any marketing/advertising for Pols, or is it all word of mouth and Twitter hashtags?

Which elected officials are lurking here and not posting?

    Green Lantern vs. Spiderman?

    1. Can I PLEASE have a comment delete button now so I don’t have to stare at real estate spam until Guvs show up? Or a “hide comment” button and you guys have the permadelete?

  4. – How many eggs make up a pound?

    – How many ears of corn in a niblet?

    – Was that my bag that fell off the luggage cart?

    – Does this look infected to you?

    – What’s in this for me??

    – Why are Penalty Box sentences so weak?

    – Why aren’t FPE’s a triumvirate allowed to dispense justice on content offenders?

  5. What if any measures could Governor Hickenlooper take to grant gay and lesbian couples some of the rights that civil unions would grant? I’m thinking of a few:

    (1) Create a domestic partners registry that would grant no rights on its own, but would create a status that the below measures could enhance.

    (2) State employees can put same-sex partners on insurance (do we have that already? i don’t think we do).

    (3) Any hospitals in Colorado, as a condition of coverage in any state-run insurance (state employees, public benefits recipients etc.) must allow registered domestic partners to enjoy visitation and health care proxy rights.

    (4) Put on a state website, maybe the same one with the new domestic partners registry, a sample will and power of attorney for same-sex couples to use.

    Others?

    1. It’s rather stunning that someone with an interest in this question, and some demonstrated sophistication about politics and government (otherwise he wouldn’t be posting here) doesn’t know the state has had same-sex benefits for state employees for three years now.

The state’s designated beneficiaries law, also three years old, covers a lot of the rest of what you’re suggesting (though not all of it). Some newer legislators, including ones voting on civil unions this year, didn’t know much about that law, either.

      1. … I thought that far from displaying “stunning” ignorance, I was actually trying to get myself informed by posting a question (this is a “mailbag call,” after all) on a topic I never said I was an expert on.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I must go get a PhD in public policy so I can avoid a shaming from anonymous blog commenters like “RedGreen” by posting anything about which I do not have complete info. See y’all in five years 🙂

        1. If even someone who follows things and stays informed didn’t know about that. But if you want to take personal offense, I guess that’s your right.

          1. … and I don’t want to take offense where you didn’t mean it that way; thanks for clarifying, and sorry for implying that you were mocking my (admitted) lack of expertise on this topic when you weren’t.

            1. I really didn’t mean to malign you or mock you.

Same-sex benefits are getting to be so routine — most cities and larger companies in Colorado offer them too — that they might not get much attention anymore except for those who could benefit from them. In part, that’s evidence opinion really has shifted dramatically in the six years since voters approved a marriage ban and defeated Ref I, that no one’s complaining much about them and all the horrible scandals opponents warned about haven’t materialized.

  6. I notice a distinct falloff in the number of comments and number of users logged in.  Are twitter and other social media cutting into us?  With the folding of the Rocky and continue diminishing of the Post, the need for a viable media like coloradopols is critical.

    What’s the outlook>
