"Compass Colorado," Proudly Fact-Free

  • by: Colorado Pols

Lynn Bartels of the Denver paper writes today about robocalls going out from right-wing advocacy group Compass Colorado, headed by a former Tom Tancredo spokesman. We’ve taken note of this group a couple of times now, from their befuddling attempts to build Democrat Joe Miklosi’s name ID to their downright amateurish misuse of facts and figures.

Today, Bartels writes that Compass Colorado is placing robocalls into the new 6th District attacking Miklosi over a complaint against him that was dismissed months ago without merit. Even better, Compass Colorado is making a point of going ahead with the robocalls even after “learning” from Bartels that the subject complaint had been dismissed in January.

If you’re looking for a mitigating “but,” there isn’t one. They’re unapologetic.

The fact that Compass Colorado is taking such a grossly deceptive action in full view of the media indicates that they really don’t care what it looks like to informed citizens, to say nothing of reporters they pitch to every day. Using such “unguided weaponry” as billboards and robocalls, they are trying to influence anyone they can–the very lowest of “low-information voters.” They’re not concerned with their credibility, because credibility is not part of their business model.

They do it because it works, folks. Their deception will be heard more than its debunking.

  1. I’m going to have to resurrect my quote from Bart Simpson/Trey Parker to the effect that if you’re going to say something proven wrong, you better be able to back it up!

  2. The employee filed a complaint, that’s all the robocall says. Why did she have to file one at all? Has the employee been paid? Did Miklosi give her hush money after the Observer’s report?

If it was a Republican, this would be front page day after day like the stupid remark Coffman immediately apologized for.

    1. According to Lynn Bartels:

The story was reported in May, but doesn’t mention that complaint, which was filed in November, was dismissed in January.

The complaint was determined to have no merit because Boyd was not an employee and had no contract with the campaign, a labor department spokeswoman said.

But, I do have to give credit to Compass Colorado for keeping Miklosi’s name in the news.

Sound like a bunch of chumps with money.

    2. it’s pretty well accepted that most everyone measures time the same — you know like minutes, hours, days, weeks and so on.  Immediate (while not an actual unit of measure) is generally accepted as meaning “at once” or “occurring in present time.”

For Coffman to have immediately apologized wouldn’t that have meant while he was in front of his Elbert country sycophants on May 12th?  Would NOT that have been in the accepted concept of immediate or do you have no idea of the concept and bends time in AGOP world?

You see, Asshole Coffman didn’t apologize until after the shit storm hit epic proportions. It’s pretty well documented that Coffman didn’t open his mouth again to address his ignorance until May 16th.  For anyone that can count (guess that leaves ‘turd out) that’s a 4 day span.  That is NOT immediate.

You want to be taken serious but then you state something like this — that really makes it’s hard to respect this kind of stupidity.

    3. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry sometimes. I don’t think there’s been a single moment when ArapaGOP has been able to do anything other than to blindly toe the party line.

  3. I imagine Joe Miklosi needs all the name ID he can get.  Even when folks hear his name, it’s not like anyone has really recognizes it.  When is Miklosi going to start telling people where he stands on the issues?

For someone who has been a congressional candidate for a year now, Mike Coffman’s gaffe seems to be the highwater mark for the Democrat’s campaign so far.  The trouble with that strategy is no one is going to care about that come November.
