Boebert Bringing Matt Gaetz To Skeeze Up Pueblo

  • by: Colorado Pols
Reps. Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert (R) in Florida last week.

As NBC News’ Marc Caputo reports, embattled Florida Republican congressbroham Matt Gaetz, despite an ongoing federal investigation into alleged human trafficking and other assorted sex crimes, emerged victorious Tuesday night in his primary that featured heavy spending on lurid ads attacking Gaetz:

Rep. Matt Gaetz defeated his Republican primary opponent Tuesday in one of Florida’s most conservative congressional districts, NBC News projects, as voters declined to hold a federal sex crimes investigation against him.

Gaetz, the self-styled firebrand endorsed by former President Donald Trump, who also managed Gov. Ron DeSantis’s transition team in 2019, spent $1.1 million on local TV ads to drive home his MAGA bona fides. Challenger Mark Lombardo spent at least $500,000 calling Gaetz’s character into question in three ads.

But ultimately, Trump’s endorsement — and Gaetz’s deep roots and relentless campaigning in the district — carried the day for Gaetz, who was a state representative from the Panhandle area before he won his congressional seat in 2016.

As readers know, congressional fellow freakshow Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado joined Gaetz on the campaign trail last week, signaling that their on-again off-again BFFship is back on–a definite change from a year ago when fellow Floridian Boebert geographically disowned Gaetz. And after the Matt and Lauren Show barnstormed the Florida panhandle, it looks like Gaetz will be returning the favor in October:

Of course, as with any plans one makes with a person under federal criminal investigation, there’s always a chance that developments in that case could render Rep. Gaetz unavailable to headline the Pueblo County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner. But the larger question–outside the friendly confines of the famously distasteful Pueblo GOP, that is–is whether Matt Gaetz appearing in Colorado is in any way helpful politically: to Boebert, or Colorado Republicans anywhere on the ballot in November.

It’s true, the same question could be asked about Boebert. But at least Boebert lives here.

  1. Feds Aren’t Done with Matt Gaetz

August 25, 2022 at 8:38 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Eight people with direct knowledge of the probe confirmed to the Daily Beast that the case against Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) “is still unfolding—albeit at a methodical pace—as federal prosecutors work their way across a number of spokes of possible criminality.”

“While each zone has its own sets of witnesses, subjects, and targets, all of it spirals out from one man: a crooked local tax official and Gaetz’s former ‘wingman,’ Joel Greenberg.”
