This is the latest I have seen 0 comments. Is there some national crisis I have missed that has you all glued to the internet/TV??? It couldn’t be the Tour de France…,the All-Star game isn’t until when?? tomorrow?
Another secret meeting that only the “cool guys” were told about?
Well, at least, I beat Libertad.
It’s like spoiled cream in my coffee. Thanks a million.
Since the FBI turned off its DNS servers that compensated for the DNSChanger worm.
If you’re reading this, you’re not infected.
HTH. YHBT. HAND.
Why not?
I am proud to be part of a growing number of loyal Democrats who do not want to repeat the Wisconsin fiasco, the MA defeat or the tsunami of 2010. We urge a more effective message, specifically on the economy.
I am concerned at the lack of feedback from the field and the lockstep mindset of OFA and the exhausted, overworked Head of the DNC, DWS.
When I raise what are to me legitimate concerns, I will respond to honest comments. The tactics that are currently being used by raymond1, BC, and VD are identical to the way progressive callers are treated on right wing radio. The similarity is striking…..distortion of comments, personal ridicule and most importantly,
an attempt to distract from the original point.
I believe that it is critical to the republican propaganda effort to silence anyone who dares to support the PResident on the medium – talk radio-that the republicans “own.” I wonder to what degree the republicans have targeted political “progressive” blogs, such as this one, to attempt to silence any constructive criticism that might ultimately aid the Democrats.
Just thinking out loud.
mean people suck.
Nothing has really changed that much.
Big change takes a long time.
Full disclosure- I acknowledge I am not liberal enough to be a true Democrat. The true left has been telling me forever – I should get a t-shirt….but what would it say? Just Another Clueless D? Braindead Liberal? It’s complicated? Jesus votes D? My Demo is Bigger Than Your’s?
You want a more effective message, specifically on the economy – me too. You know one?
For electoral politics there are only two with proven track record: Cut Taxes! You Are Better Off Now than before.
GLW either of T.
posters shouldn’t be distorting and ridiculing you. Mostly. Sometimes it’s just too funny: Are you now or have you ever been a resident of DPS?
But if you want all happy and smiles and message unity you are in the wrong place.
This is what I wish Obama would have done……and I think that he vastly underestimated the dimensions of the economic problems.
I think he should have borrowed from FDR, whose Fireside chats were effective in telling people what he was doing and WHY. Obama believed his incredibly smart advisors that Keynesian economics would reverse the economic down spin and the bring the economic out of the deep, deep, recession…..Obama should have explained each step to the public…..and when there were problems….outside of his control…..Europe, BP spill and blow to the Gulf economy, the Japanese tsunami…the President should have said here is where we are on the recovery plan….and this is how these events may impact, negatively, the recovery. If he had educated or at least informed the public of his plan, he would be in a better position to explain why he needed Congressional cooperation, etc. He also would be in a position to explain the current slowdown….or at least acknowledge it and tell the public how he wanted to proceed.
Right now, we are just getting sound bites….
I beginning to dread that neither Romney nor Obama has a real clue on what to do about the economy…..what Romeny is proposing would be disastrous….but I don’t know that what Obama is doing…from what I can figure out…is going to result in anything but stagnation.
One big problem is, independent, of the economy cycle, we are also dealing with technological advances that are making many, many, workers obsolete….and education is not going to help…..
oh, to be the last martyr for the Dem cause. Yeah maybe also the the ColPols Cassandra or our resident conspiracist — perhaps all 3?
Silence? You’re the 1st post on Monday after holiday break but it’s clear we’ve been silenced by the cagey RWingers. Whew, you gotta come up for air.
So it seems to you that folks here disagreeing or questioning, in any way, your prophetic tendencies have been zombified by Repub righties targeting this blog? Geez then there are GOP tools aplenty shuffling amongst us trying to brain suck the last standing CO progressives.
I read a lot of constructive criticism on this site. Matter of fact that is why I’m active on this site and why I suggest other folks to join up & engage. I am not of the same opinion and perhaps, if nothing else, it could be that Dems & Progressives do indeed like a bit of coherent, fact-based discourse in their politics.
Rightie sites (at least the ones I can stomach to peruse for 10 mins or more) sure read like borg-minded cults. Those are the sites that find the following real funny: Obama parade parody causes controversy
I find most folks here entertaining and the constructive discussions often lively and insightful and I’d say there is plenty of criticism for/against policy & personalities. But, I guess I’m just too stupid to realize it’s all a GOP ploy to dumbify the Dems.
Vexing the Obama administration into acknowledging its flaws.
Little does he know he’s just a housefly, buzzing annoyingly and feeding on rotting meat.
Do not get their “constructive criticism” from random anonymous blog commenters who don’t know who the President’s spokesperson is.
He may be getting outraised, but he still has enough money for, y’know, ACTUAL experts.
is they usually don’t. The campaign should not listen to any single blogger (except me of course). But they should be aggregating what is being said as that will tell them what is stopping many in the base from contributing time & money. And tell them what the true independents are thinking.
even in aggregate. At least not political bloggers.
and this is one, where I have no idea what you are talking about. There were no personal attacks on you. Indeed, no personal attacks by anybody except that no good, &*$*@#($% communist socialist liberal VanDammer.
Stop assuming its all about you. Post your comments and let others post theirs. Just because they don’t automatically agree with you, doesn’t make them bad people.
Except, of course, for that no good, &*$*@#($% communist socialist liberal David Thielen.
Or Romney, who blogs on this board under the nom de blog “Libertad.”
Welcome back. You had to be here, earlier, to know to what I was referring.
It is absolutely not about me. It is about the state of the Democratic effort.
For example, MADCO, raised some legitimate criticisms of what I had posted. I responded. NO COMMENT on my opinions.
Rather, the comments, including yours, are directed toward me, personally. I believed that I proved my point and I shall move on.
has been with us, dwyer.
Don’t focus on the one’s that have no interest in listening to constructive criticism. Instead focus on those that are interested in discussing your concerns. And keep in mind that even those open minded will often disagree.
has pretty good article highlighting a visit by Sal Pace
Here’s the best hit on Mitt from NYT oped: Mitt’s Gray Areas
It’s a legitimate question. How can biggest Mitt boosters not wonder the same? During screwball primary Mitt deferred so as not to give his opponents anymore info to prove class distinction but now we’re in the general, so what gives?
If Mitt were to come clean would he alienate the GOP grassroots base? Would he lose the independents and the middle class? What does Mitt fear and why aren’t more demanding the truth? Just What is Mitt Hiding?
…you were equally uncomfortable with John Kerry’s wealth (much wealthier than Romney).
PS your link hits a pay wall.
did he offshore ? Did he shut down companies ? Its not the wealth we have a problem with, its the depths that Romney went to to get it.
I could never do something like that in good conscience. Could you ?
Four Pinocchios.
Snip
And that’s from the freaking WaPo! Imagine an actual newspaper weighing in on this.
so no pinocchio. Its like saying I only did it a little so its a lie to say I did it at all, but thats Romney.
AND
Does this article refute what happened at AMPAD ? No
Obama campaign rebuttal about the outsourcing (CBS news);
kind of shocked that Romney would attempt to deceive anybody though…
continues to receive new interests in Bain investments as a partner. For example, on his 2010 tax return he acknowledged the receipt of partnership interests in two different Bain vehicles. How, given his lack of disclosure, are we supposed to judge claims about his degree of involvement? Why should we be expected to believe him, given the extraordinary mendacity that is the hallmark of his campaign?
Unless you are referring to his wife, the condiment queen.
But I’ll take a good windsurfer over a jet skier any day!
Still, I remember fondly the days when an ordinary working stiff could run for president, like John F. Kennedy or Nelson Rockefeller.
I just find it awesomely hypocritical to try to denigrate Romney for his wealth, and to whine (not you personally, mind you) about poor, poor Obama’s disadvantage in getting out raised now after he destroyed the bar (and broke a pledge to take public fundraising, as well) in 2008.
I mean really, how many tax dodge accounts does a guy need?
Switzerland, Cayman Islands, Burmuda. Hey, how about that $100 million IRA? Slick trick with contributions limited to just a few thousand a year!
Robert Vesco would probably still be alive and enjoying his $250 million stash if only he’d had as good of tax advice as Romney!
He married into it.
Wish I could do similarly.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07…
(this works for me on all my boxes/browsers)
deflect and change the topic much?
and you know for a fact that Romney’s wealth is less than Kerry — how? Kerry has released numerous years of tax returns. I do believe it’s been noted that he released upwards of 10 years of returns when he ran in 2004. Now he does file his taxes separate from the widow Heinz and we had to accept that as fact.
But where are Romney’s tax files? He’ll give us partial 2010 and an estimate for 2011 (btw, we’re now 7 mos into 2012 and counting) but more than that and we’re shit outta luck & don’t ask again.
Answer the question LB otherwise ya don’t get to play. What is Mitt hiding? Sure, I’ll be a bit bothered when “bootstraps” Romney claims hard work, sweat & toil got him into hog heaven but it’s not a question of comfort for me and others. It is about honesty, transparency, integrity, and character.
Mitt forgets that he needs to answer to US citizens and things like this don’t elicit a whole lotta trust. What — are we just all to dumb to see the records? Are we just poor working stiffs to dumb to accept the benevolence & machinations of big biz? Sorry, I’m not gonna let you deflect and excuse this transgression. Mitt needs to come clean.
I actually think it might be illegal for Obama supporters now to use the word “transparency”, but I’ll check.
Not that we can tell — which as you know, is precisely the problem. But I’d just as soon avoid any post-election surprises, forcing us to impeach Mitt “You can’t prove I’m a crook” Romney.
Hey, I haven’t done anything illegal. Way to shoot for the stars…
Mitt wants to run America he needs to earn our trust. Earning trust is pretty easy when the relationship has a base of honesty and integrity. Real simple honest action would be to release his tax returns – the same as Obama or even prior GOP candidates. Not following suit means he doesn’t trust us to understand or he’s deluded to think it doesn’t mean anything.
Through all the stupid birther crap, all the nutjob conspiracy re proof of birth with Obama don’t you think Mitten’s folks would want to do everything they can to keep from having such a distraction? But guess they have better reasons to let this fester.

Honestly, that clip is so perfect.
Seems to work against the point you’re trying to make, not for it.
Don’t scream like a mashed cat about a politician who hasn’t released tax returns he’s not required to release if you yourself haven’t…..released tax returns you’re not required to release.
Unless you’re DWS. Then, please keep talking, whining, and shrieking. You’re doing fantastic work for us.
And other politicians are not.
Double standard? Maybe, put it’s fair play to pressure Romney about it. Turnabout only works if Obama were being less than open about it, but we all know that’s not the case.
If it’s about “ethics and character” then DWS had better get to releasing, too. Those things exist, or they don’t.
He’s not required to release additional returns.
Why hasn’t Obama released his school records? What’s he hiding?
If you honestly think they’ll care whether DWS releases her tax returns or not, or that it has the least importance to Mitt Romney and why he isn’t releasing HIS returns, don’t let me stop you.
Obama simply can’t campaign on his record in any way, so they have to go for distractions.
It’s not a surprise, but let’s just tamp down the shrieky faux-outrage. We all know each other enough that it’s not necessary.
Besides, who are you trying to convince that this is the OUTRAGE OF ALL OUTRAGES? A bunch of lefties on a blog?
Hey – let’s talk about that last jobs report!
Given the fact that Obama’s campaign itself has appropriated the “Obamacare” tag, I’d say that your charge that he isn’t running on his record is far from the truth. He’s simply campaigning like a Republican.
And again, you know that Americans expect POTUS candidates to release their tax returns. Requirements aren’t distractions.
This isn’t really an outrage, exactly, but it sure makes you wonder what Romney’s afraid to make public.
Romney’s done everything required, and you know it.
If Obamacare wasn’t a big fat cement Albatross, you’d be seeing it in ads.
My point stands. Distraction.
Good try, though.
that he’s done everything “required,” this wouldn’t be hurting Romney. And make no mistake – the amount of coverage dedicated to the question means that it hurts. I mean, when you got Haley freakin’ Barbour* saying Romney should release his tax returns already, that’s a Republican acknowledgment that the Dems have a winning issue here. Because it’s what voters have come to expect.
Now then, let’s not be disingenuous. Modern campaigns are not all about the issues. They probably never have been. Campaigns that try to stay on the issues lose. Negative campaigning (and I’d say this qualifies – but note that negative does NOT equal dirty or unfair) and staying on the attack works. That’s all Obama is doing here. If it wasn’t a distraction for Bush’s friends to attack and distort Kerry’s war record, then this isn’t a distraction either.
As far as Obamacare goes, I bet we’ll see it in the ads before the campaign is over.
* See the video I posted on today’s open thread if you haven’t heard about this yet.
Or bumper stickers?
The DCCC is offering this to contributors. I got the email today.
Fail!
You intolerant person, you.
you found it real easy to denigrate a female Senator for bringing up a valid issue as only an ass like you could.
Wasserman Schultz is just another constituent asking for honesty. She has as valid a reason to ask as any of us. I’m not whining or shrieking so insult as you will or do you only pick on women?
I was talking about you guys. You can whine and shriek with the best of ’em.
It’s a sex-neutral pejorative in this case.
THis, BTW, could not possibly have been said with a straight face:
If you ask for Mitt Romney’s tax returns, they’ll just ask for yours. Even if you’re not running for president.
Nothing to hide here !
Romney is one of the wealthiest men to ever run for President. He can’t be expected to file his taxes on time. Like me, he had to file an extension (although I feel confident his reasons are entirely different than mine).
He’ll get back to you with any “need to know” information in mid-October, right around the same time about half the mail in ballots for this election have already been returned.
According to an article back in January his money comes entirely from investments, mostly wrapped up in capital gains and spread out from the Cayman Islands, Luxembourg, and a now closed Swiss account.
You know, just your average American guy who can really relate to the working middle class and their daily issues. After all, who doesn’t have multiple offshore assets and accounts? Don’t you?
Oh and by the way, Ellbee? You’re wrong. Kerry is worth approximately $282 million; Romney is worth approximately $250 million. In the scheme of things, it’s a bit hard for you to back up your assertion that Kerry is “much wealthier than Romney”, primarily because you just pulled that out of your ass.
As for being out raised, Romney doesn’t really get the credit for that so much as Citizens United and the Koch brothers. And it is what it is. It’s the 21st century and now it’s the law of the land that a corporation can buy an election. Congratulations.
I didn’t have a problem with Kerry’s wealth because he didn’t try and pretend he was poor. If you got it, don’t be ashamed of it. Kind of makes you look like a two faced hypocrite.
“Kind of makes you [Romney] look like a two faced hypocrite…”
Gosh, I’m sorry. That sentence is pretty much irony on steroids, isn’t it, considering we are talking about a candidate you support that has literally been for just about everything before he became against it (pro-choice, pro gay unions, universal health care…shall I go on?)
It’s hypocritical to oppose gay marriage, but then to turn around and support it because
your idiot savant Vice President blurts out that you have changed your mindit’s politically expedient in an election year?I never once defended Obama’s previous position on this. He was wrong before, or not being honest.
Again, you can try to defend it by equating the two contenders, just as we will deflate Romney’s Obamacare is a tax not a tax is a tax argument by pointing at Romneycare. I think your guy is more vulnerable on both accounts, but we will see.
There is just so much video of Romney not just wrestling with a shifting or evolving position but declaring absolute fealty to it, before another clip of him swearing absolute fealty to the opposite position. So good luck mitigating that. Should keep some oppo teams happy and well fed digging up clips of Romney taking the exact opposite position on whatever his latest pronouncement is.
Your guru.
…how freaking great you are?
from the other side in 2004, and people like me recognize it as a vulnerability from this side in 2012 for Willard. And that was a different election. If I recall there were crazed jihadi wolves prowling around suburbs or something that we were all suppose to be afraid of back then.
This election is about different things–and I doubt it will be health care, even, or the dynamics of the Tea Party election of ’10.
Who’s side are you on matters in this round–Romney cannot help but step in it with his NASCAR team owners, cheap ponchos, need-two-cars-for-each-coast comments…
But yeah, those of us who want to win will exploit the opposing candidates weaknesses. I believe it is called an ‘election.’
Besides, critiques about what he did at Bain and what he does with his money (ie stash it in tax havens offshore, where he also sends U.S. jobs) are relevant.
Not all of us buy the myth that the 1% are the golden ones who shower their trickles upon us, dispensing jobs like pez candies every time Congress guts another public health or safety law or hands out more tax favors to CEOs.
Some portion of us might not prefer a president who seems primarily purposed toward helping those few benefit, or take particularly well to the outsourcing pioneer with his off-shored accounts. Its almost too late. A fine caricature, though, that might do the job; the best ones are always the most accurate after all.
And you’re looking for some contract work, please email me. (We have a ton of stuff that needs serious editing!)
thanks all.
He is 65. Won’t he be the third oldest person to run for office, after Reagan and Bush 1, who was also 65, I think.
I would like to see the man’s medical records. He looks healthy and far younger than he is. Plus, i know that LDS people are generally very healthy because of their life style. Nonetheless, I am old enough to be want some reassurance when people close to my advanced age are running for President.
