UPDATE: 34 felony charges, the Washington Post reports:
In the city that made him famous, under extraordinary courtroom security, Donald Trump pleaded not guilty Tuesday to 34 felony counts related to payments to silence an adult film actress during his 2016 presidential campaign. He is the first former or sitting U.S. president to be criminally charged.
The charges — falsifying business records in the first degree — were announced at an arraignment hearing Tuesday afternoon. The indictment has not yet been released, so the precise details of the charges have not been made public, but that should happen later Tuesday.

NBC New York reports:
Donald Trump waved to throngs of people, some decrying his arrest, others cheering it, as he arrived at the Manhattan district attorney’s office Tuesday, where he surrendered ahead of a historic court moment that will see him become the first-ever criminally indicted U.S. president.
The one-time commander-in-chief posted a message on his Truth Social account as his motorcade left Trump Tower, writing, “Heading to Lower Manhattan, the Courthouse. Seems so SURREAL — WOW, they are going to ARREST ME. Can’t believe this is happening in America. MAGA!”
[mantra-pullquote align=”right” textalign=”left” width=”50%”]“We are the party that elected Donald J. Trump, and we are not going to apologize for that anymore.”

On the scene this morning to protest was Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and George Santos, though they apparently didn’t stick around long:
The appearance by Ms. Greene, who supports conspiracy theories and has falsely suggested that Democrats support pedophilia, had brought a crush of onlookers and counterprotesters.
Police were separating pro- and anti-Trump demonstrators in Collect Pond Park, keeping an aisle — and an array of officers — between the two groups, who were largely peaceful, though at least one small skirmish broke out. Ms. Greene’s arrival was accompanied by heavy security.
“Go back to Georgia!” one person shouted.
Not on hand by any report we can find was Rep. Lauren Boebert, though she Tweeted her carefully-worded if a bit milquetoast support calling on Americans to be “vocal.”
As for the recent poll showing 60% of Americans support Trump’s indictment?
As they say in New York, fuggedaboudit:
Boebert doesn’t say why she thinks the poll is fake, but we assume that’s how Boebert regards every poll that says something she doesn’t want to hear. At least she didn’t say “Today is 1776.”
But the day is young! We’ll update with local reactions, developments, whatever comes next.
The guilt is in his beady dead little fucking eyes.
I confess I took a screen shot of CNN's website saying TRUMP UNDER ARREST in president-dead-sized font and saved it my photo file.
LOCK HIS BIG FATASS UP. FINALLY the dam of karma is breaking on this embarrassment of a human being let alone former POTUS.
Welcome to NY now get the F outta here!

Love it. Kudos to Jamaal Bowman.
Lock him up!
34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree, between February 14 (Happy Valentines Day!) and December 5, 2017. (All while fuckface was POTUS)
I guess there must be a statute of limitations on the thousands of similar instances he committed prior to 2017?
I'm underwhelmed. In the last couple of days, the speculation was that there might other, more troubling stuff in the indictment but alas it is all the same falsifying business records.
Even though a felony, does anyone seriously think he will serve time in prison for this? And does anyone seriously think that if he gets jail time, it will be anything other than concurrent on each count?
Here's hoping the 1/6 riot incitement, the stolen top-secret papers, or the GA election tampering cases get more traction and one of them goes to trial first.
The fun will begin soon, perhaps even this evening(?), when the Orange Docket # begins disparaging the Court and the Judge publicly.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. The screaming Yam lacks the self-control not to violate the first rule of court appearances: don’t piss off the judge. He will; just watch.
I had not heard there might be more in this indictment. But he is still being investigated for far more serious crimes in other jurisdictions including the feds.
Maybe now that they see they can charge his fat ass without the world stopping, they will make some movement.
Minimum 1 year for a Class E felony in NY, max 5 years. Judge appears to have discretion on consecutive vs. concurrent. He'll serve time unless he pleas out, and probably even then.
The thing about this case is that it's a reasonably light lift for the prosecution. Each charge is a single entry in a ledger or checkbook. Simple stories, simply tied to an already court-accepted fact of another crime. It's not glamorous, but it is business financial fraud for personal gain, and that's a lot less vague.
Haha, with Trump already insulting the judge and his family, I'm sure sentencing will be fun to watch.
There's going to be a fight over the statute of limitations, which is 5 years for the felony falsifying charges (only 2 years for misdemeanors), but my understanding (based on media reports, not my own legal research) is that the statute may be tolled during periods when trump did not reside in NY. Hard for me to see why these charges couldn't have been brought sooner, after Cohen's plea. But maybe they needed to get through the trump org. prosecution first. This case on its face looks defensible on the question of intent, but we'll see.
Cyrus Vance, the previous DA, is on record as having been waived off by the Feds. Tolling should be easy enough – the Feds wouldn't touch him while he was President.
Lauren Boebert is melting down like a snowflake.
Seriously. "…Fake as Biden's White House play set…"?
Is she underwriting the "Biden isn't really in the White House" Qspiracy?
"This must be the wake-up call to take back America"
Jesus Christ on a stick. For once, Bobo is right.
“the one time commander-in-chief posted a message on his Truth Social account…..”
The same account that allegedly is partially funded by money from Russian oligarchs, through various front groups of course.
He's coined a new phrase in his speech tonight: Box Hoax.
If Trump is convicted, he will appeal. If he appeals, he will likely avoid serving any sentence until his appeal is complete. If he loses his appeal, but wins the 2024 election, can a sitting president be sentenced to jail? A suspended sentence, subject to successful completion of the terms of his probation?
This whole thing is nuts. The fact that the leading Republican presidential candidate is likely to be facing multiple criminal charges is crazy.
Nixon.
Reagan.
Bush.
Bush (Cheneyson).
Ttump.
Crazy? Maybe.
Tradition? Seemingly.
Inevitable? Had to happen eventually.
