It’s not even the most controversial thing GOP gaffe-o-matic Rep. Richard Holtorf has said this week, but for the deejays and stoners among the readership we decided it’s worth a mention:
Uh where I come from, you know we don’t like the Devil’s Lettuce, it’s not good for our communities, but that’s not here. Okay, that’s a settled question. So, we need to stay away from debating the Devil’s Lettuce.
It’s a quote that needs to end up in some kind of dance remix. And in the state that led the nation in making marijuana available to adults recreationally a decade ago, you shouldn’t be surprised to learn there’s already a “Devil’s Lettuce” trademark filed with the Colorado Secretary of State for a brand of THC-infused drinks–the owner of which just got a fantastic name check if they are poised to take viral advantage. “Devil’s Lettuce” is also a popular strain of cannabis in its own right. In all such cases Holtorf has provided free advertising we wouldn’t miss shamelessly exploiting if we were in the marijuana business.
The reason that the “Devil’s Lettuce” is a “settled question,” of course, is that an overwhelming majority of voters across the country support marijuana legalization–a percentage that only increases with younger voters. That being the case, Democrats should welcome Holtorf planting the GOP’s flag on the buzzkill side of what Holtorf admits is not a winning issue for them.
Holtorf’s job is to kill time with bloviation, and gifting the opposition sound bites is the price.

Interestingly, Farmer Holforf raises hemp for the CDB market. I guess that’s different then the Devil’s Lettuce which is consumed for the THC high but it’s a fine line.
Holtorf wouldn't really need to change the lyrics to Beck's "Devil's Haircut" that much to do a white boy filibuster rap:
I suppose he might be thinking of the Wildwood song?
Or maybe the mid-1960s song, by Denver band The Rainy Daze, "Acapulco Gold."
You do have to wonder what his "exerience" was. Are you . . .?
