I like to use Roy Blunt as a litmus test of ethics. In my personal judgment any politician who is beholding to Roy Blunt, who seeks his help for office, is telegraphing his/her ethics as someone to be held at arm’s length.
Roy Blunt is a Delay crony that Delay tried to have installed in his stead as House Majority Leader while under indictment. Recent news reports indicate Blunt may be the next Majority Leader if Hastert should resign.
While calls for Hastert’s resignation are being sounded by both Democrats and Republicans, if Hastert does, and Blunt is installed, my personal feeling is that Roy Blunt, as Majority Leader would be putting Tom Delay’s proxy, Tom Delay’s crony, in power.
It doesn’t take but a little research to find Blunt’s, Abramoffs, and Delay’s connections. They were connected in various ways in regard to the so-called “K Street Project”.

Last week I watched part of “Moyers on America” on PBS. His show was on Capitol Crimes, highlighting DeLay and Abramoff with parts devoted to the K Street Project. The corruption disclosed was disturbing. Much of the video content is at this site:

Just be careful, people. If we have Roy Blunt in power as Majority Leader, we are in trouble.

Because it wouldn’t take Hastert resigning to make him Majority Leader, it would take Boehner resigning. You are talking about Speaker of the House. Although Boehner could get elevated with Blunt taking the Majority Leader’s office. Unless and until the Dems took control of the house.
I presume this is Blount’s opening move in his campaign to be minority leader come January. I don’t think he’ll make it.
I think the survivors in the GOP House Conference (and by survivors, I mean those who get past Election Day unscathed, and then those who get past the blood bath that’s going to take place in the GOP Conference after 11/7) are going to purge the leadership and install a slate of clean, conservatives led by someone like John Shadag of Arizona.
Didn’t Shadag run a respectable race (albeit third place finish) against Blount and Boehner last year after Delay departed?
Otherwise, Blount would have replaced DeLay as Majority Leader.
Likewise, this was Hastert’s last term as Speaker regardless of the outcome of the upcoming election. He, too, was DeLay’s guy, the idea being that if DeLay couldn’t take the position himself, at least put someone weak into the position.
As it is, it’s the reached the point where it will be a surprise if Pelosi’s not Speaker of the House.
No, I think Republicans do a serious (and seriously needed) retooling after this election.
