Donald Trump Federal Custody Joie de Vivre Thread

Ex-Sen. Cory Gardner, shocked that you would dare use his own words against him.

UPDATE #2: Remember when now ex-Sen. Cory Gardner joked about sending Hillary Clinton to Supermax over her missing emails? Because we do, thanks to longtime local reporter Corey Hutchins:

“I introduce myself most of the time by saying, ‘Hi, I’m Cory Gardner from the great state of Colorado, home of the Rocky Mountains — and Hillary Clinton’s private email server,” he told an audience at a restaurant in South Carolina recently, adding that perhaps that’s what his state is known for…

“You know, they’re trying to move Guantanamo Bay detainees to Colorado where we have a Supermax prison, and I said, ‘You know what, with what’s happening I don’t want to keep them in Supermax, because we need to make room for Hillary.’”

And of course it didn’t end with jokes, with Gardner co-sponsoring legislation to strip Hillary Clinton of her security clearances. Gardner isn’t around much anymore to answer for the many, many statements he made in office that didn’t age well.

But this is definitely one such statement.

UPDATE: After years of defending ex-President Donald Trump, Colorado’s Rep. Ken Buck tells CNN he won’t support a “convicted felon” for President–and goes on to say that Trump should be held to the same standard as Hillary Clinton, who Trump denounced as unfit for office over her infamously missing emails:

This shift comes as the seriousness of the felony charges against Trump sunk in over the weekend. We consider it a significant development, and we’ll be watching for more.

—–

Yes, it’s a difficult day for America. But go ahead and express a little satisfaction if you’re so inclined, just today.

Or until the next indictment! It’s a free country, notwithstanding pre-trial restrictions.

  1. I was watching Andrew McCabe talk about this on CNN. I must give him credit. I couldn't have kept a straight face talking about this. If I were him, I would have been grinning and smirking through.

    What goes around comes around.

    1. That’s because you’re thinking of Ttump as some kind of aberration.  And, he is — in much the same sense that Neil Armstrong first walking on the moon was.

But Ttump is not an aberration in the way that first comes to the minds of most.  He did not arise spontaneously, from out of nowhere, unseen and unimagined, and usurp the Republican Party. Like Armstrong’s accomplishment, Ttump is the product of years of careful planning, effort, expenditure, and manufacture.

Today’s Ttump is proud Republicanism’s logical outcome of their last 70 years of Republican thinking and direction.  And, they’re making more.

“Here we stand; at the end of paths taken.”

      1. Ugh. You're right. It used to be expected that Republicans had principles, then it was a hope, then a wish, but they've proven again and again they have none.

  2. Here's tomorrows news from yesterday:

    https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/04/trumps-trip-to-new-york-is-getting-the-o-j-treatment.html

Trump will never see prison so give up that dream. He's going to live in exile in Saudi Arabia appearing at a LIV golf tournament frequently. No matter the results of the election it's rigged, the greatest theft, an act of war. There will always be this thread of MAGA in the conservative party even after the 2028 race. This will be a central theme of a right wing terrorist organization consolidation.

  3. Note how Ken uses the term "convicted felon?"  Trump's Florida federal case is not going to trial before the 2024 general election, so Ken can support him during the election without worry

  4. Gardner isn’t around much anymore to answer for the many, many statements he made in office that didn’t age well.

That's because Gardner "stayed the course".  And voters "thanked" him.

    1. Re: Update #3.

It’s no small wonder that, after voters thanked him, Cory never made it to the big time as a standup on The Tractor Sales Comedy Tour?

      1. Who said there are no second acts in American life?

Cory is probably hoping to become Secretary of Agriculture in a Tim Scott/Joni Ernst administration.

  5. Most observers have noted that but for the failure to turn over the documents when asked there would be no case today.  Also, it’s suspected that the court case won’t be resolved before the November, 2024 election.  If Trump or another Repugnant wins the election he’ll be off the hook. And, even regardless of the election outcome,  if Cannon remains as the judge, she would probably issue a sentence involving probation, not prison.

Unless there is evidence that Trump disseminated Top Secret information then this whole case will turn out to be a nothing burger, IMHO.

    1. What would be the point of probation? That sentence is to prohibit the convicted from committing the same crime again. He no longer has the ability to control federal property. No, he needs to live with no media coverage for a few years. That would be an unbearable situation for him.

  6. Didn’t Yurtle suggest during that last impeachment that there’s no rush, Ttump could always be impeached after he left office?

How ’bout now, Mitch? Is now too soon?  Susan (lesson learned) Collins, any thoughts here?
