Thornton Mayor Jan Kulmann Vaguely Afraid of Some Guy

  • by: Colorado Pols

Thornton Mayor Jan Kulmann, a Republican up for re-election this November after losing last years’ CD-8 Republican primary to Barb Kirkmeyer, is apparently deeply concerned about the actions of an unknown individual who seems to have taken an interest in her campaign. Why, you ask? Well, it’s not exactly clear, but here it is for the record:

That’s all we know about the situation–an individual who “posts pretending to be a supporter” when apparently he isn’t, and was allegedly seen at some kind of public event where he was photographed (above). There’s nothing else here to substantiate Kulmann’s claims of “intimidation” by this anonymous person, and if Kulmann didn’t learn this running for Congress last year, candidates for office attract all kinds of attention–some of it from opponents, who have a wide latitude to engage with public figures without it being considered harassment or stalking or whatever it is Kulmann is suggesting but not fully alleging here.

Of course, if this person is engaged in any kind of bonafide illegal activity, we wouldn’t condone that either. Generally speaking we’ve found the best response to vague allegations of this kind is to throw a giant spotlight on the situation and see what the deal really is. If it turns out this person does work for an opponent of Kulmann’s and is simply assigned to “bird-dog” Kulmann on the campaign trail, we’re sorry to say that’s one of the least controversial explanations possible.

So let’s all find out together now.

  1. I dunno’?   It’s difficult to be sure that’s Moderatus: Hands in his pants? Check. But, without his Kleenex box????

  2. If this makes her feel "unsafe" (don't they usually call people who use that word "snowflakes"?), it is probably good she didn't get to Washington.  Why, just over a year ago her fellow partisans were building a gallows on the Capitol grounds to string up folks who didn't tow the party line…and now her party wants to pardon those who have been convicted.

    1. If Kullman is so threatened, she should get a positive ID on the guy and then get a bunch of goons to go storm his local library. That'll own the libs!

  3. Do you suppose any of the campaign staff could go up and ask for the guy's name?

Wearing a black shirt, black shorts, black socks, and black shoes … then standing around with his hands in his pockets.  Definitely suspicious behavior.    /s

    1. Danny, Danny, Danny . . .

      . . . you ignorant “volunteer.”

At its greatest ever Thornton was, at best, almost but not quite mediocre.

Thornton could probably use someone who will move things forward, that syrely won’t be your looney backwards looking [mommy/auntie/grammy/dream angel(?)] dearest.

PS. I should say now, Welcome to Pols! (Something tells me you probably won’t be around here very long.)

      1. At its greatest ever Thornton was, at best, almost mediocre.

And currently, something of a shithole. smiley

But hey, I'm sure Thornton residents would welcome all efforts to improve the place. Ms. Kulmann could likely best help in that regard by taking her talents to the private sector, rather than latching onto the public teat.

      2. I bet you said the same thing last time Jan was up for election. In case you missed it, she's kinda the mayor. You lost last time and you lost badly, just like in 2016.

Prepare for a red wave as Trump, Desantis, and Kulmann come crashing down on you.

You're right about one thing. I won't be hanging around here to type long. I'll be on the streets, making sure Thornton is re-electing #JanK.

        1. “. . . she’s kind’a the Mayor . . .”

Wow, it’s only 10:15 and you already got something right today (more than you realize), kind’a !?

So kind’a Mayor Kuhlmann didn’t make Thornton great yet in her first term?  But she’s gonna’ “make Thornton great again” in her second? (I understand, only so many hours in the day and she was kind’a busy . . . losing to Kirkmeyer.)

          “Crashing down.”  Yep.

Now go out and play in the Thornton streets, sonny . . .
           (whatever’s still left of ’em).

  4. So I actually did go to Dan Kulmann’s facebook link, and surprise! It does look as though Danny is Jan’s mysterious “stalker”. Readers can compare the two photos and judge for themselves.

    From DK’s FB page:

Male, dressed in black, over 6′, face features similar, etc . Now there is a similar looking male in a picture for another Thornton mayoral candidate, Julia Marvin. So here’s my questions: Dan: Why are you spamming this feed? Why not just fess up that it was you all along, and end the mystery? Jan: Why are you pretending that you’re being stalked? If Dan is a psycho stalker, and those do exist, especially for female candidates, why haven’t you called the police and issued a restraining order?

Dan apparently also attended one of Marvin’s meet and greet events. Here’s a pic from Marvin’s Facebook page:
( both pics removed – by Pols?)

Now, as Pols noted, none of this is unprecedented. Campaign volunteers track opposing candidates; they also attend each other’s events. I’ve done that when working for candidates. However, I’ve never pretended to be anybody other than myself. It looks to me as though Jan Kulmann is pretending to be a victim, Dan is taking the opportunity to get some earned media for his preferred candidate, and Marvin is just trying to run a decent campaign for Mayor. Marvin’s FB page has a post in which she addresses this “man in black” issue. I’m not going to quote her here, but it’s worth reading if you’re interested.

    1. Hi kwtree,

Thanks for taking the time to check out my FB page and do so much work.

But, I never hide anything about myself! Please refrain from making such silly allegations.

As for your pictures….I guess I am in one of them? And hey, 50% is higher than the reading/math scores of our area, so congrats!

But, alas, I do not own a pair of jeans. That hunk of man also looks much slimmer than me. How do they say? 'A-ooo-gaaaa'?

Finally, my glasses are not for show. I am legally blind and could not come close to reading any sign in that store without them.

I did enjoy this game of Clue, though.

      Sincerely,
      Danny Kulmann

    2. I also checked out the Facebook profile. It looks like a Facebook profile set up just to focus on Jan Kulmann. At the very least, it's weird.

"Danny Kulmann", your over the top support of Mayor Kulmann strikes me as mean-spirited sarcasm and I don't like it.

If you are actually a supporter of Mayor Kulmann then you should use your real name and not pretend you have the same last name as the mayor..

If you're not a supporter then this mean-spirited sarcasm is doing no one any good and I'd rather hear your sincere opinions on things instead of you spending all this time and effort to troll a politician you don't like.

      1. I agree.  It appears to me as though this is a seriously misguided attempt to embarrass and intimidate Kuhlmann when what it is actually accomplishing is making her look sympathetic, while distracting from her real opponent in the election.  If Mayor Kuhlmann can successfully link this "Danny" guy to Julia Marvin, it will rightly finish Marvin's campaign.  And that would be unfortunate because Kuhlmann and her bloc on council have not been good for the community and we do need a change.  But I don't think anyone would be up for trading out one underhanded bully for another.

    3. Nice work as always, k-dub!

Danny, are you one those opposition candidate trackers, or the dangerous sociopath Mayor Kulmann seems to think you might be? (Yes, I know those aren't mutually exclusive.)

      1. Genghis, it gets weirder. “Daniel Kulmann” is actually Dariush Namazi, unaffiliated voter in Thornton. Don’t take my word for it – Mayor Kulmann outed him on her Facebook page.

Meanwhile,  Jan Kulmann is also getting a lot of mileage blaming Democrats for somehow siccing the annoying Dariush on her.

Here, she’s blaming Democrat Roberta Ayala, running for City Council Ward 2. Earlier, Kulmann was blaming her opponent, Julia Marvin, who on her own Facebook page swears she has nothing to do with the mysterious “volunteer”, ie. Mr. Namazi.

        Below is Julia Marvin’s post.

So why is Dariush posing as “Danny the MaGA maniac”?  My theory is that he is a real MAGA beleiver, who hopes to push Mayor Jan to fess up to her own Trumpy beliefs. In the meantime, perhaps he can discredit a few Democrats, implying that he is being sent to harass poor Mayor K by the sinister Libs, since he’d really hate for them to win.

        Here’s Marvin’s post:

It’s a stupid distraction – Thornton has some of the most polluted air ( and lung diseases) in the state, thanks to the Suncor refinery and unregulated industries, which Mayor K is a big fan of. Those are the issues we should be debating – not who set up Dariush Namazi to harass female candidates, or if Namazi just enjoys the attention.

  5. Wait, there's more….Dariush Namazi apparently ran, as a Democrat, for state HD24 in 2017 ( Faith Winter won, thank Goddess and a good campaign).

So was Namazi a Democrat in 2017 and somehow transformed into a MAGA Maniac? Stranger changes have happened.

If you look at Namazi's recordings of himself at political meetings, from his "Danny Kulmann" website, he seems like he's doing vaudevillian political theater.  Maybe that's all this is…the spasmodic antics of someone who wants attention, and doesn't care whose candidacies he hurts in the process.

Or maybe Namazi is a leftie who thinks that endlessly repeating the memes that Mayor Kulmann is a Trumpy MAGA queen will hurt her in Democratic – leaning Thornton. She certainly seems to be trying hard to frame herself as a moderate, showing up at Juneteenth and Pride events, belying her own record as a cultural warrior. It might be worth writing a diary…..
