  1. Nice to read about a family getting a bit of justice — or at least some compensation.

AP: Thermo Fisher Scientific settles with family of Henrietta Lacks, whose HeLa cells uphold medicine

BALTIMORE (AP) — More than 70 years after doctors at Johns Hopkins Hospital took Henrietta Lacks’ cervical cells without her knowledge, a lawyer for her descendants said they have reached a settlement with a biotechnology company they sued in 2021, accusing its leaders of reaping billions of dollars from a racist medical system.

Tissue taken from the Black woman’s tumor before she died of cervical cancer became the first human cells to be successfully cloned. Reproduced infinitely ever since, HeLa cells have become a cornerstone of modern medicine, enabling countless scientific and medical innovations, including the development of the polio vaccine, genetic mapping and even COVID-19 vaccines.

Despite that incalculable impact, the Lacks family had never been compensated.

  2. Fer cryin' out loud, Harriet, do all these MAGA nutbirds, goin' apeshit  because Hunter used his dads' name to impress people, remember kids named Jared, Ivanka, Donnie, Eric, and associated spouses and in-laws? Where was your outrage?

    IOKIYAR, I guess.

    VOTE BLUE…NO MATTER WHO!!

  3. Trump's various Super PAC's fueled by gullible small donor contributions is running low on cash (legal fees are such a bitch!).  However, there's always money available for really important stuff 😉

‘Strategy consulting’ fees for Melania Trump’s former stylist

Though Trump’s growing legal jeopardy has contributed to a strain on cash for the Save America PAC that has been handling many of his legal bills, that committee still found the funds to pay Melania Trump’s former stylist. The committee reported payments of $108,000 to designer Herve Pierre Braillard for “strategy consulting” during the first six months of this year.

    1. During the first six months of this year?

The irony is that Melania is apparently sitting out the 2024 campaign so the stylist's work is solely for the paparazzi who are sneaking photos of her at Mar-A-Lago or when she travels.

      1. maybe the "strategy" advice is "stay the fuck away from the campaign trail and courtrooms."

With all of the events around The Donald these days, he really doesn't need to have anyone commenting on Melania scowling or sneering at him.

  4. It's always a Republican, volume "I've lost count":

A former Republican attorney general candidate and another supporter of former President Donald Trump have been criminally charged in Michigan in connection with accessing and tampering with voting machines after the 2020 election, according to court records.
