The first debate among Republican Presidential hopefuls will take place on Wednesday evening (7:00 MST) in Milwaukee, the city that will also host the 2024 Republican National Convention.
Former President Donald Trump remains the overwhelming frontrunner to capture the GOP nomination for a third consecutive time, but the Big Orange Guy says he won’t be participating in any debates. Trump has already taped an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that is supposed to be aired at the same time as Wednesday’s debate, though it’s not clear where you could actually see this interview.
Anyway, there are eight other Republican contenders who will debate in Milwaukee: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis; South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott; former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley; entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy; former Vice President Mike Pence; former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie; North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum; and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson.
That means it’s time for another reader poll! Vote below on who you THINK could be the 2024 Republican Presidential nominee should Trump get hit by a bus or something.
As always with our reader polls, we’re not interested in who you might support or prefer; instead, we want your best estimation of who might be next up to the plate. Our readers have traditionally been very accurate at predicting political race outcomes.
Note that we did not include “Someone Else” in this poll because we’re more interested in who you think has the best shot among the eight candidates who qualified for Wednesday’s debate.

Vivek – because he's slick – and rightwing.
Vivek Ramaswamy looks like a reasonable guy … I think he may well be this cycle's Ben Carson, an outsider with an appealing veneer who could be a Cabinet member or high level ambassador if the disaster of a Republican win occurs.
He's promised to pardon Trump. He's a complete and utter nutjob
Take a look at his "10 truths" and get back to us. Or his brilliant plan to generate 5% annual GDP growth each and every year via removing all "constraints" on fossil fuel production. Dude's a right wing nut and total shitbag.
As for the question in the post, if it ain't PAB, it'll be Meatball Ron, cuz the U.S. is rocketing toward "shithole country" status and there's no stopping it at this point.
At his core that dude is nutz. He was spreading Q-theories about 911 over the weekend. That said, i agree he’ll be in the running.
I’m concerned to some extent that the bar has been lowered so much that people might think “well, at least he or she didn’t contribute to getting Capitol police officers bludgeoned with fire extinguishers, so he or she might not be that bad.” Media and social media influencers will need to be on their game to call out things the nation really shouldn’t accept from their 2024 candidate(s).
I honestly can't think of anyone else being the GOP Presidential nominee besides Donald Trump. He could die and his supporters would still vote for him and his team would go along with it for as long as they could.
I agree. These debates are superfluous. The field is all losers not worth the time to discuss.
Speakung of…sad reacts only!
Any bets about the extent of air time devoted to these attendees?
Of course, the thought of MOST of these people being "spinners" is relatively odd — all are known shills for the former *resident. None are especially creative.
Seems that Trump has the right-wing nutjobs sewn up, so I don't see the need for an alternative Trump. If anything, those candidates serve to glorify the Dear Leader.
IF there's going to be a serious challenger to Trump, they have to come from the center-right–Pence or Haley. That's a big IF, but we can hope.
Don't be confused. Pence is not "center-right." He is a far right wing religious extremist who supports a national ban on abortion (unless he wavers slightly to try and buy votes).
