Wow. These are interesting times.
i believe it is now time to update the big line…
Why would Farber do this? Is he a conservative democrat or what’s the reasoning behind his decision. Doesn’t seem to make sense, espicially that if he “usually supports democratic candidates” it seems strange to put his support with Beauprez. Has anyone heard about the trifecta of Gill, Polis, Skyes, and where or when their support with come out – if it does at all?
Someone should do a bit of research on Farber – determine if he has a past business/personal conflict with Ritter. I seriously doubt any registered dem would vote for a rep candidate that votes with Bush 98% of the time. It doesn’t make any sense.
This is not a significant in the least. It just goes to show the Steve and the rest of his cronies at Brownstein cozy up to whom ever they think has the best chance to win. I’m sure he did the simple math to see that Beauprez has a better chance statistically than Ritter. Look how when the R’s were in the majority in the state house and senate, Farber and his firm were right there with them in their representation. Farber and his cronies are sellouts. I wouldn’t take this endorsement to mean anything.
Right on the mark, DeTangle. Like most fixer/lawyer/lobbyists, Farber wants in on the winning side. He backed Owens last time, BTW. But it is a straw in the wind as to how the opportunist vote may go.
You can’t downplay the importance of this. Farber can bring a campaign a lot of money, and Ritter is already behind in fundraising. I’ve heard that Farber just flat out doesn’t like Ritter, which wouldn’t surprise me.
It must be Steve’s magnanimous personality, or his wallet. Maybe he could convince Beaupre and Owens to join him is getting the DNC to Denver. Surely, Elbra Wedgeworth would agree saying that it’s a Denver thing, not a Democratic thing.
Farber promised to back Beauprez in the Gov. race during the ’04 CD-7 race. It’s no surprise. Farber is nothing if not a man of his word when it comes to politics, that’s probably why he’s been so successful in the political arena (don’t forget his long ties to Gore, dating back to when Gore was a freshman congressman – Farber stuck with him through thick and thin). Farber probably had made similar promises to hick if he ran. W/o hick in, the backing of Beauprez, while disappointing from a Dems perspective, is not a surprise, nor a blow to Ritter’s campaign.
Farber has given $$ to Republicans in the past. He apparently is a democrat as a label, becuase he supports politicians who are all over the board on issues. Orrin Hatch to Diana DeGette…

come on people – somebody do your homework and find something interesting ……. for example, farber gave $1,000 to holtzman 3 months before he gave to beauprez. interesting, though not surprising, that he changed.
interesting, also, that norm brownstein and the rest of his family have also maxed out to holtzman but not given a dime to beauprez.

It would seem he’s hedging his donations, nothing unusual about that, especially for those with deep pockets. Though it’s notable that the Beauprez contributions came 3 months after Holtzman’s.
Interesting, BMR. Contrary to one of the posts, it’s obvious Farber is NOT “putting his money where his convictions are.” He’s putting his money where his interests are. The guy’s a millionaire lawyer lobbyist, to coin a phrase, and wants access to the eventual winner. If Ritter does win, he’ll be quick to suck up by giving money to the re-election fund.
Shows zero staying power for Holtzman huh? Seems like a lot of people (i.e., John Elway) gave to MH when he was the only candidate, but when Beauprez got serious they gladly moved over. I just feel bad that Marc didn’t get the memo…

Here’s my two cents from a Colorado moderate: Whether you’re left or right leaning you run on the fact that you either want A) less government and governmental intrusion or B) you champion the ordinary man and your constituents ability to have a level playing field in reaching the “American Dream”. How about we run a headline or two about a soccer mom and an elderly couple who are struggling with everyday life and see who they are endorsing as opposed to someone who is in the top one percent of Colorado’s elite? Here’s your first headliner: “Yuma grandmother endorses Ritter: See’s a brighter future for Colorado’s rural communities” or “Hugo ranch family endorses Holtzan”.
