"Kit Carson Mountain considered for renaming……" Which they illustrate by showing the west face of Challenger Point. Nice to know that former Rep. Bob Schaefer isn't the only political figure who can't keep his mountains straight.
Because I am bored you've had me poring over photos of these mountains and I can't tell if you're right or wrong.
They're right next to each other anyway. Not exactly Denali.
I'll have to go hiking there next summer to say for sure. Looks pretty either way.
I’ve done all 55 14ers; finished with Capitol Peak in 1999. Have also done a few extras recognized as 14ers by 14ers dot com; plus a couple that they don’t recognize, like North and South Massive. Your map from Centennial Treks is looking north, probably from the summit of Crestone Peak. In your photo, Challenger is on the left, Kit Carson is in the center, Columbia Point is on the right. The view on the Progress Now photo was probably taken along the road going east towards the town of Crestone from State Highway 17.
I defer to your expertise then. I climbed Bierstadt 20 years ago and thought I was invincible. 🙂
You wouldn't want to try Bierstadt these days. On a summer/fall weekend, you'd be climbing with 300 of your "closest friends." If you decide to use a guide service for the Kit Carson / Crestone area next year, shop around. Be sure to check their references and who their guides are.
Great job on the new format for Week in Review.
